In all seriousness, it is odd that DP News comes on this forum today to post photos of the Wyoming event in an effort to share the happening with the pool world.

I'm not sure why nobody from Dragon, like Pool Grapevine or Spade, or ABPpros replies to anything written on this forum, but they use this forum as a vehicle to promote themselves. It just doesn't make sense to me.

This is a little off topic but I have been wondering if prize chopping is just a American thing or if they do it in European and Asian tournaments as well?

The ABP will not address this issue, and no one should be surprised.

First of all, they simply do not respond to any questions or comments here on Azb. As JAM points out, they are quick to use this forum as a promotional tool, but consistently refuse to participate here, and that isn't likely to change.

Secondly, I fully believe many involved with the ABP will have no problem chopping, and will not wish to come out and admit it.

There is your professional pool leadership.

That's because there's no such thing as professional pool.

ABP Chopping

It is a shame:

BUT there are professional players in the US.

DO NOT throw the good guys into the same pot.

There are a lot of honorable players out there.

That is the problem with this type of behavior - it paints everyone with the same brush.

And I would not expect a response from ABP.
But I would contact every player listed as a member - or a board member - and see what they have to say.

ME - all I can do is keep the integrity of our events above board.
Now maybe you see why TAR is taking such a hard stand on a deals done on the TAR streams.

To restate: anyone doing business on a TAR stream will be barred from future TAR events and also from ALL CSI events!

Whoa I thought it would be a no brainer for the ABP to state there will be no chopping. Apparently they are more driven to making promoters add more money and not a whole lot to do with the actions of the players. Thats par for the course for sure.

That sounds good but how do you prevent deals from being done and kept quiet by the players?

Abp

I asked that very question on the ABP's website, a month ago now. No response as of yet. Not holding our breath for an answer either.

How do you stop someone from telling you a lie?

You can't.

What you can do is make it known that if someone does lie to you and you find out about it there will be consequences. You make the penalty so stiff that it makes even taking the chance of chopping stupid.

Does that make it impossible someone wont try it? No.

It does mean we will hammer anyone who gets caught.

Thats why they favor seeding so much..... It guarantees there will more bretheren at the top to chop with.

The ABP stinks from top to bottom. This is just a good wiff of it and they're just getting started. Stay classy kids.....

What the heck does chopping mean anyway?

It means taking the money and whacking it up. I guess the thing is with a tourney I sm sure alot of people have done tyhis in vegas maybe with APA singles or BCA singles even TAP. Lets say you and a buddy go to play in the BCA singles in Vegas together. Drive there to save on expenses, split gas $$, room together and you are close friends. Maybe you would make a deal like "Listen, whatever we win we split. SO it gives you more chance to make $$ if by chance you come 2nd and 5th you split the winnings. I suppose its something that 2 friends would do. Now when it comes to the pros, in an event that is maybe televised or streamed . and the 2 friends are in the final. They may not care who wins as their $$ stays the same. Personally though I would kinda like to win anyway just for the points or the hardware and credentials. SO who knows how hard they try when its like that. I am sure the OP is referring to the Wyoming event that went off recently. I have no idea if like 4 people were all in on a chop Suey as that is too many I think to be chopping with. I can imagine that happening but not sure if it actually did. Maybe there is something else out there that I have not heard.

From what I heard, all 4 traveled to Wyo together and had their entry fee & rooms paid for by the promoter/tournament director (not sure if other compensation was involved), so it's not a stretch to think all 4 chopped their winnings in this case.
