" a much younger team"
Well SVB has to be in there. But after that...who is he talking about that is "much younger"?
Lets get the speculation started.
I think he might be talking about someone like Justin Bergman.
SVB - The only shoe in
Canidates:
Oscar Dominguez
Corey Deuel
Mike Dechaine
Justin Bergman
Chip Compton
Joey Gray
Brandon Shuff
Jonathon Hennesse
Skylar Woodward
Landon Shuffett
Justin Hall
My Picks: (Not going to happen)
Oscar
Corey
SVB
Henny
Bergman
More Likely:
SVB
Hall
Bergman
Shuffett
Oscar
I wondered a bit about Landon, if he would be someone that Mark would consider. He handled Earl with ease at Tunica winning 15-4 playing 10 ball on a 10 foot diamond. Even with Earl behaving poorly Landon didn't let it get to him.
Is he Mosconi cup ready, I don't know. But I know this, the kid impresses the heck out of me every time I see him shoot.
Put Dennis Hatch with guys who gel like in 2009 with that positive team spirit, and you will have a winning team!! I am not sure putting a bunch of inexperience together is the answer, but I'm glad to see they are working on something.
My thinking is that SVB will be the only returning member to the team this year...and rightly so, imo!!!
Some good candidates: Justin Hall, Landon Shuffet, and Hunter Lombardo. Justin Bergman would be a fine consideration. Maybe a Joey Gray or a Chip Compton would be a good choice.
Just find the best 5 guys that will not get rattled under the intense pressure they are going to feel....that's the best formula for success!!!
Maniac
Dennis Hatch is a disgrace to the Mosconi Cup, just like Earl
All that rawr rawr rhee B.S. then he cant execute a ball in hand shot. Please.
Mark currently coaches Landon as part of the Lindenwood University billiards team. I think it's unlikely he chooses Landon because (1) as much promise as Landon has, he hasn't posted any major tournament wins yet, and (2) the appearance of favortism.
IMO the only shoo-in is SVB, and the only shoo-out (as it were) is Earl based on Mark's "behavior" comments.

Did anyone that read the interview actually comprehend it? Some of you need to go back and re-read it or actually take the time to read it for the first time cause it is obvious you have not.
Let me help you out and review. Mark doesn't care if you are the Ocean State defending champion. Anyone remember that. Mark cares if you have character and dedication to pool and to the team. Many of the players that some of you are listing - do they fit the criteria?
Landon is in school and school comes first. I hope he finds the time for both school and more pool in his life cause he certainly has the talent and his father raised him right.
Watchez is the teacher.

great pick mark best thing that happened to usa team and pool for long time..
my guess the usa team will be...
shane van boening the leader
oscar dominguez
landon shuffet
jeremy sossie
justin hall/billy thorpe maybe a year too early for him.
going to be interesting to see it all unfold.
Interesting prediction, Darren. I must admit that these are all solid, well-respected players.
This team would certainly be a young, talented one and Shane would, I believe, be the oldest member of the team. Who knows who will make the grade and make the team, but we can be sure of two things: 1) Mark will make great choices, and 2) as you suggest, Shane must be the leader and role model for whatever team Mark puts together.
It looks like an interesting year ahead.
