MIA - AZ Missing in Action List

timely thread

Tate;

Thanks for posting this, I have been thinking about some of these MIA's myself.

Tramp Steamer announced he had to leave rather abruptly and without further explanation (or his characteristic humor) he vanished. I have to say that when he left, I felt sure he'd be back in a week or two, maybe a month tops. Sadly, I was mistaken. I sure hope things are okay with him.

I also enjoy Hu's (Shooting Arts) take on the world, not just the pool related stuff. He's a real gem and I see that he has posted recently, albeit infrequently. I've noticed that there is a tendency here on az for some people to take breaks and I assume Hu is one of those and he's likely busy with his many other projects.

I see that Mully is currently trying to sell his JMW cue over on the For Sale forum.

It's nice that the MIA's should know that we are thinking about them.

Best,
Brian kc

CaptainJR comes to my mind. He seemed very honest and straight forward. I am sure its been quite sometime that I saw a post from him. Hope he is well..

Don't know about them, but rehashing the same topics over and over again can get old. I don't post or read the forums half as much as I used to. I'd rather be practicing than posting or reading about the best tip, case, ld shaft, table, or cue over and over again

I know that this is a huge sore spot for many members on this board. I have tried to come up with reasons why the same topics come up over and over again and all I can come up with is this: When new members come onto this forum, many do not yet realize how to properly utilize the many tools/links that are available, such as the search feature. Also, I believe that many new posters/thread starters simply want to get "involved" and feel like part of the community by starting a thread and "personalizing"it, as in making it their "own" thread, even if has been brought up and discussed many times before. Basically, they're just trying to fit in and have a sense of "belonging". It doesn't bother me to see the repeat subjects. Heck, with the ever changing pool world (products, people, etc.) there seems to always be a new twist to the things in pool that concern us. Not to mention that I like to get "fresh" opinions from the newest members on certain subjects. I mean, if we stopped talking/posting about EVERYTHING that has ever been written about on this forum, it would be a very dull forum for sure. So I mostly just look past the repeat threads as harmless and somewhat necessary. We don't have to open them, you know???

Fred (Cornerman) once said something to the effect that if you stay around long enough, everything has already been discussed.

CaptainJR hasn't been around in quite a while...I too enjoyed his posts and his debates and sense of humor. I'm also sorry that JAM doesn't post as often as she used to, I know she's still around but not nearly as often. My feeling is that there are several reasons why people disappear...they get disgusted with the negativity, they give up pool, they get involved with something else, they get bored with forums, they get red-bombed, they get banned by Mr. Wilson, they have a serious illness, or they die. I'm sure there's more...

I am pretty sure Shawn is doing ok. He lives 45 minutes away from me and I used to talk to him often. I honestly don't know what happened to him, but can tell you that he is probably busy doing something. The last time I saw him was at the shop. He was picking up two cues from me and that was late last year. He got into AZ for a very good reason, and that reason may have been fulfilled.

I took a little break from here a few months ago, because I was tired of all the same ol' BS....... 'What's the best cue...... production vs. custom..... who's the best player....... what's better, LD, or Regular? My favorite ice cream is strawberry, because chocolate is too brown...... and you suck because I know more than you do (not really, but I like to act like it, so I'm gonna make it look I'm right even though I'm not)

Seriously, it gets old sometimes, after a while, hearing the same old stuff from a bunch of different people, and at times, you get a real idiot who thinks he knows everything when in fact he should listen more.

like a bad penny . . . (an update for those interested)

Fred (Cornerman) once said something to the effect that if you stay around long enough, everything has already been discussed.

I was back today posting a trip report from JoeyA, he usually calls me from the road. When I saw this thread I have to admit I was curious, both to see if anyone realized I had pulled a fade and to see who else was AWOL.

My main reasons for pulling back were two-fold. One I am deeply involved in something else; besides all of my usual projects I am really learning poker, a far more involved process than playing poker. The other thing is that I very rarely have anything new or fresh to bring to a serious subject, seems I have said the same things many times before.

Like a bad penny I'll keep turning up. Not too often though, I honestly don't have the time to really get involved in threads like I used to. I started one today and posted into this one. Keeping an eye on these two threads will amount to several hours used over the next few days that I could have better spent working on projects. I enjoy the visits with friends, . . . too much. I have let several internet forums become huge time sinks over the years. I'm trying to avoid that ever happening again. Nothing wrong with that if you have the time but I am making a real effort to use my time as productively as possible.

Situation normal here, FUBARed!   No drama, just busy. Working on some land, moving my shop, moving people, poker . . .

Hu,

I certainly appreciated getting the PM from you about what was going on.

Hope you're winning a bundle and having some fun!

CaptainJR came back to post briefly after a 2 year hiatus. Reading between the lines, I assumed he had a life changing health issue which precluded him from shooting pool.

This thread is nostaligic, but sobering.

Who could know? I wander too.

My buddy's 3 year old says 'I can't know'. From the mouths of babes...

I wonder about this too. Sometimes, while searching old posts on subjects, I find or remember members who's postings I haven't heard in a long time.

I suppose there are any number of reasons. Interests change. Circumstances change. Enthusiasm, tolerance, health..whatever-changes.

Personally-in the last year or two, I have sensed an increasing negativity in posts. Often, not an exchange of differing opinions, but more in the way of verbal beatdowns by individuals or factions to 'win'. There seems to have been a downward bias in civility and common courtesy on display. Maybe this just echos the stress and discomfort of some real tough times in this recent economy for many.

I don't know where former or infrequent poster go. I can't know.

If able to do so, there are many of these MIA posters that we as a family and community, would benefit from their return. Some are hilariously funny-others extremely knowledgable-some just sort of like your 'crazy uncle so and so'-you never know what they'll say.

Let's hope for a better year-on this forum and in general.

Welcome to the new members and welcome back to returning members.

Take care gang

Tate-thanks for the post

As I was doing this thread, I was wondering what happened to Bruin70. I used to jive him about UCLA because my wife and I are USC fans. He was into photography and cues.

Sometimes you find out more than you want to know!

He got into it with Joe and his last post in November 2007 was "I'll be back..." but he never came back. I totally missed this thread.

I am posting this only to illustrate how heated disputes can end active membership. My personal feeling is Paul Rubino has contributed greatly to the art of restoring and resurrecting old cues, has deep respect for cue makers of the past, and he does a bang up job on everything he works on.

Hu,
It's great to see your avatar back up among the brethren here!

Even though we may not loiter here as long as we used to, this is still a super fun place to spend some time. More good people here now than at any other time I can recall.

CaptainJR hasn't been around in quite a while......

The Captain PM'ed some of the old timers recently. It sounded like health concerns stopped his pool playing; so he's moved on to other hobbies. It was nice hearing from him.

Now who here knows anything about "drivermaker." He could really stir the pot (banned). I definitely miss him.

P.S. - I seriously liked Gremlin. He always had a picture and a story about one of the women players he stalked....errrr.....liked. Cheap shot...couldn't help myself; but I was serious that I liked him.

There is nothing new under the sun..just like the Bible says.

But if 20 people look at something..we get 20 different points of view.

And your point of view has always been valuable.

So check in once in a while..and good luck in your endeavors

How bout Joeboxer?

I havent heard from Joe in a long time. I hope he's O.K. I sent him a PM,
but never heard from him. Good guy.
