Ronnie Wiseman stiff's me for $3900

His deal was with Wiseman not Scott and the other guy, so Wiseman owes him the money. If Wiseman got stiffed by Scott and Justin then thats his problem. This is another example of why pool wont be moving to the the bigtime anytime soon. When you have pro pool players stiffing people, and Pro's like Corey Duel who set their buddy up (Johnny Archer) to play a golf hustler..and the hustler beat Johnny out of 90 grand!! Where I come from guys doing stuff like this would get a beating ...at least a really good beating and then they would know whats up. Try doing this stuff on the south side of Boston. Ronnie wouldnt have made it out of the pool room because everybody in the room would have been on him.

Please note: BOSTON has a bad rep and no one ever did anything to handle it as far as I know.

W,
Excellent recall. One of the advantages of reading AZB carefully is knowing who NOT to gamble with.

A hypothetical question.....If you steal Ronnie Wiseman's envelope from under the table; and there is nothing in it but air; did you really commit a crime???????

If I've learned anything over the years hanging out in casinos and poolrooms, it's this. WHEN THERE ARE HUMAN BEINGS AND MONEY INVOLVED, BE CAREFUL! Got it?

The bigger the money, the more care you should use. I learned a couple of lessons the hard way too. And I've had a few close calls as well, but I had my guard up and ducked the thieves. You can read all about it in my book.

I never minded playing for big money ($500-1,000) a game in my poolroom. I was in control of that environment and knew that I didn't have to worry about getting robbed. Stiffed maybe, if I was careless.

When I got involved for big money somewhere else, I ALWAYS had someone with me who I could trust and depend on. One big guy or a guy who is armed and dangerous will discourage all but the most brazen of thieves. I am not ashamed to admit that most of the time I was on the road, I carried a weapon. I didn't mind losing my money gambling, I just didn't want to get robbed and/or hurt.

Bottom line, you must look out for yourself if you have chosen to gamble for a living. To be too trusting is to be a fool. I'm not demeaning anyone here. I have been fooled myself, more than once. And I have put some Karma on a few people too. I am a super nice guy, and do my best to get along with everyone. But if someone tries to rob me, they become fair game for whatever I can do to them. And that's how I feel about that.

I have never seen this thread before. I barely know either of these guys, but I can tell you one thing after reading it. Everyone who was in that room watching the match between Lil John and Tony KNOW who took that money. Yes, I said everyone!

I'm not a cop and I'm not going after anyone. It wasn't my money and it's not my deal. To leave 34K under a pool table is never going to be a smart move. NEVER!

I have seen 10K stolen at gunpoint off the top of a light in a poolroom, with dozens of people watching. No one made a move to stop the guy. Wonder why. Maybe because it wasn't their money. And the two pool players froze too.

This falls under the explanation that I gave about people that stiff you or air you and their perception in the Stiffed by Southpaw thread. Money owed after a certain time period, 2-3 years, is no longer money owed. It is like it never happened.

An owner of a business who was having problems with emplyoees stealing once said while we were talking about it.

" If you give a person some of your money to hold, after a certain amount of time, they will begin to think it's theirs".

I just thought that was a memorable and right on quote. When you bring money into the equation, people can act very different than you would expect. One of life's sure things-Money changes everything.

This probably is not meaningful in this thread but I'll forget it again for 40 more years if I don't tell it. I was about 20 years old sitting at the bar of my favorite watering hole. It was slow, I think I was the only one there. In walks the night bartender and says to Mrs. M the owner. "Mrs you need to get that leak fixed in the bar sink".
She said, w/o missing a beat, "I will the soon as I get the leak in the cash register fixed, your fired, get out." I just sat there with my mouth opened. He turned around and left w/o a word. Johnnyt

Ronnie is a deadbeat he has owed me a dime for a few years he told me a sob story at Northfield Billiards when the Viking National championship was there. I seen him a year later after he took down a nice score and he gave me the story he was backed and owed his backer money so his take from a 4k score was $300. This is why I only play casino poker nowadays they can not lose what they don't have and I never loan gamblers money, unless it is a close friend. Ronnie is a funny guy and a champion player but this is far from the first time he walked away from a debt or losing wager.

Champion players are those who respect their sport, as well as the players they compete against. I would hardly call him a champion player after this move (provided this is what really happened). Shane Van Boening? Now there is a champion player. Do you honestly think he would ever pull a move like this? No way! People who pull these stunts don't belong in the class of "champion player".

Could have had something to do with the gun. :D
Most people I know dont like getting shot.

Jay, Have you started a thread about your book? If you have I've not seen it.

I'd love to hear about it. You are a very lucid writer.

Was that at Hard Times? The game that Keifer Sutherland was staking if memory serves me right, I heard about it and was glad nobody got hurt.

No threads please. It is still a work in progress, just like me.

.....I wonder if Hard Times will be off the list of pool rooms that some people will visit now, as was mentioned for the lone incident in Hattiesburg.

This happened over ten years ago. Doesn't seem to have affected the business much.

I've seen riots at HT.
Didn't see Ernesto and Bobby Hunter get robbed at gunpoint but almost everyone there claims they saw it.
