Russian Ken

Damn

Sounds like Kenny had a hell of a time at the derby on everyone else's dime WOW. It will be interesting to see if he gets action at the SBE!!!

after the boston caper a few years ago that guy still comes on here to get action and does, so i doubt this other guy will have much of a problem either, most degenerate gamblers aren't too picky w whom they gamble w

Yeah, Motivation... :)

I think it will all come down to motivation.

I'm sure that some will provide better motivation for him to pay them than others.

Oh, I'm sure...I could see it start at $20 a rack and get much worse, once somebody's stuck. I just don't think a 16 year old has any business gambling (especially at DCC or SBE) at all...I'm no Charlie Church, but it seems kinda wrong...

Well you must be in the dark cause guys like Justin bergman, JHall, Joey Gray and countless other kids were playing 5-10k sets at 14

I don't think I ever met a gambler who did NOT start in their EARLY teens. Hell, I used to bet all the cash I had on monopoly when I was 10 with my neighbor. His mom caught us, and smacked the sh!t out of him. I got away unscathed:)

I'm still trying to figure out how/why a 16 year old gets into that kind of action? where does he get the money and why is he gambling that high (or at all)? Not really a "consenting adult"...

Of this entire thread this post has me the most confused.

Every pool player I know gambles, and started at a very early age.

Ken

I watched most of the set, the kid played very fast and very good, especially for his age. I believe they were racing to 13 for $400 a game. Every time the kid got on the hill, Kenny would say "say no we are going to 14 or 15" trying to muscle the kid. The kid was cool, I think he knew he had a lock, he was giving Kenny the 8 ball if it was the set we all are talking about. Tom

Kids learn how to gamble at a very early age. Think of the arcades with the tickets that are won based on your score. Those tickets are used to purchased overpriced prizes. So 100 tickets might cost a kid a fortune in order to get a 20 dollar radio or something. I brought this up one time to some people and they said "it's not really gambling." Wtf is it then? What do you call all those "crane" machines where kids put in 10 dollars trying to snatch a 3 dollar stuffed animal? Of course now these games are a lot more sophisticated. I believe they have upped the ante putting in big prizes like play station games, mp3 players, and other electronics. Hard telling how much they blow in those machines chasing the good stuff.

So, if a 16 year old wants to wager some money on his pool game, a game of skill, then I do not see a damn thing wrong with it.

Do you see anything wrong with a scumbag like Kenny muscling a 16 year old child for big money?

If I were related to that kid I would bury the little Russian. Its wrong to pull these moves, but to do it with a 16 year old?? I hope somebody tskes it out of his a$$. At this point repaying the debt wouldnt be enough.

Cant believe the trash that is glorified in this game. Shame on us all.

Been there done that :) This young lady loves the game and just needs a little help

Yeah, I completely agree. Jackie plays pretty sporty as it is and with a little bit of confidence boost and patience, she could most definitely reach another level...no doubt about that.

Hell, I started playing pool when I was 12 and gambling by the time I was 13 at the teen club at the army base and the local bowling alley. Both had four 8' Brunswicks.

Anyone remember the days of betting a quarter on the five ball and fifty cents on the nine? If you jacked it to fifty cents and a dollar, that was big time gamblin'. LOL

When I turned 16, I was able to go into some of the larger pool rooms because most didn't serve alcohol at that time.

I feel bad it happened to the kid, and yes if Kenny was threatening or "muscling" him then that is even worse.

However, it is a lesson the kid will never forget, and he will actually benefit from it for the rest of his gambling career. Most everyone that has ever gambled at pool has a story like this. When you bet your money you must be 100% certain you are going to get paid. Gambling is tough enough as it is. How can you gamble with somebody if when you win you do not get paid??? Get the money posted. That's the only way.

And even then, sometimes you still don't get the money. ;)

This is what I was thinking...there's a huge difference between betting pocket change or small stakes at an arcade or in your local pool room where you have someone who's got your back and going on the road and rolling for 7 large. Glorifying kids who can't even shave yet for winning/losing major coin in that kind of environment seems a little wrong to me. Just my opinion...and I'm a guy who at the tender age of 11 attended dog fights and cock fights in east Texas/Louisiana--so I'm no stranger to kids in bad/wrong environments.

Don't play Kenny you won't get a Penny!!

I like that. You could always become a rapper if pool doesn't work out haha.
I think he's gonna have a hard time getting backers next year.

Black-Balled, I suggested to a young lady named Jackie this week end that she look you up to help her with her game. She is from Northern VA. I think she can be a real good player with your help.

Hey I think I know who you mean... Jackie R.? Plays in the APT events?
She can definitely shoot. Was shooting in Springfield one day and I glance over and
it looks like there's a 14 year old girl playing one pocket. I thought I was hallucinating.
I accused my opponent of putting something in my coke.

I'm sure BB's wife will get used to the new arrangement.

Many 16 year olds would have to work for a solid week to earn the amount he was betting per rack.
And most of them haven't had to deal with mortgages and utility bills, nevermind supporting a family.
Few people that age understand the value of what they're betting.

You could argue "yeah but they're living with the parents and don't have to pay those bills,
so if they lose it's not the end of the world."

...the thing is, those teenage years are pretty critical. That's when people develop a lot of their identity,
their self-image. If you make a habit of gambling your whole paycheck at 16, and you start to think of
yourself as a high-betting pool player who isn't scared of tough action, that might completely
alter the kind of path you take in life and your attitude towards saving money and taking risks.

If I had a 16 year old son betting hundreds per rack, I'd push pretty hard to discourage it.
I think that kid would be in for a tough life (or at least a tough decade) if I didn't nip it in the bud.

I have a friend that is a champion at the crane machine - window is open.

That's definitely a valid argument. Try to look at it as neither good or bad. Each individual person (or kid) has a different set of circumstances. I do not know this kid that got stiffed but definitely remember the "buzz" about it at DCC. For all we know he could have had plans to put the money to good use. Inevitably it's all about life lessons.

Gambling at pool may be detrimental to one kid, and might save another kid's life.

In the words of my buddy CJ..."Posting the money is the teacher."
