Should pros be allowed to sell products on the main forum?

Just something else to think about. Depending upon how well you can navigate this forum, you may not even know that other sub-forums exist on this site, or how to get to them.

I have known of forum users who did not know there was a cue and case gallery, or an ask the instructor sub-forum.

Just a thought.

These are the things that make it so a marketing/sales thread doesn't bother me:

-the OP actually responds to questions, is active in the discussion

-the OP contributes to the forums on a somewhat regular basis

-the OP has purchased a product banner on the site, club membership, etc.

That's about it.

I agree.

Nothing pisses me off more than DP productions starting 4 threads and not responding to a single question.

I'm a Professional table mechanic, should I not be able to post in the Main forum, and keep all my posts in the "Talk to a mechanic" only?

Please don't do that. I really enjoy your posts ON the main forum and would hate to see that happen. I have never felt like you are advertising.

And before anyone says I'm kissing Glen's a$$ I would like to say I have never had him do any work for me and I probably wont. Having glen fix my olhausen wouldn't really be worth it (wish I had a gold crown) and he is probably out of my price range atm.

But I'm sure he is worth every penny he gets paid from the looks of his work.

I would think more people would want the pros here. It doesn't bother me if they're advertising their products. Why should it? It's certainly not hurting anyone. I think if anyone is that worried about what is going on in an online forum then they have much bigger problems. The pros should be welcomed & encouraged to stay & interact with everyone.

I like that. As I said before I know it's not my place to say who can do what but I really like your ideas in that post. That's why I don't look at CJ's post as advertising really. He is very involved in his posts and is constantly answering peoples questions. There are not too many pro's like that.
I would be worse off without the quality input from people like CJ.

SOunds like somebody needs to call the WHHHHAAAAMBULANCE !!!! Maybe a couple somebodies.

To clarify the situation it was me that introduced CJ's name into this thread. It may not be whom the OP was alluding to when he posted his question.

With an ad no. With a conversational tone where they are willing to discuss their offerings with the rest of the members, yes.

Perfect. I can't add to that.

As I have heard my wife say many times...it's time to shut up and color.

No Way

I,m starting a DYDCH (design your dream chalk holder) contest and don't
want this fourm cluttered up with information from pro's. Let them go
someplace else with their crap. If they want to share their knowledge they
should pay us. Just the other day I was trying to read a very good post
about what everyone's cues nicknames are and opened some goofy thing
by C.J. somebody. What a waste of time. Let's see those chalk holders.

Silly Thread

Funny how a gaff thread gets 51 replies. People get stirred up and the O.P. shows their self to be an agitator by getting haughty when folks poke back. It would be refreshing to see these threads just fall off page 1 with no responses at all.

And all of you gestapo types really do enrich this forum, no I really mean it !

Hey, this may knock one of the ChrisBanks threads off of page 1, those threads will actually make you play worse and possibly cause permanent retardation!

Of course they should. I agree with RKK, should he not be allowed to start threads about his work or promote Diamonds? What about every Dr .Dave post that includes links to his site (which I like alot). What about the instructors with their tag lines. JCIN and all his TAR threads, the list goes on. This is a pool forum, these people are in the center of the industry, yeah I want to know what they have to say. To me most of the conflicts reek of petty jealousy from a handful of members.

people that used chalk holders were getting preferential treatment on chalk forums

I've never had a chalk holder....it it true....do they really hold chalk better? Someone said that was "complete nonsense" and there's no way a holder can really hold chalk better. He also said that he noticed that people that used chalk holders were getting preferential treatment on chalk forums. This is NOT FAIR and an outrage.... furthermore... the chalk holder guru that can stop such insolent, audacious, pomposity has been banned - now what? 'The Chalk Holder is the Teacher'

Now that's funny right there !!!

I told y'all this forum was a source of entertainment!

Maniac (born with chalk holders attached to his palms :p)

Sure. Why not? But they might get better exposure if they had their own sub-forum for doing so. After all, dealing with someone who is known in the industry is quite a bit different than dealing with a stranger.

There is something going on with this forum that may or may not have anything to do with pros selling products on here. What it seems like to me is this forum is getting a lot more new threads. Am I wrong about this? I'll find a thread that interests me and in just a couple of hours it's long gone, only to be found somewhere on page 3.

I really wish they could come up with a way to rate threads based on the people that are participating in them. I don't think they currently use the "rep" system at all, but wouldn't it be cool if you could sort the current threads by some score that was based off of the rep system? So when people that have high rep post to a thread, it scores it. Then you could have half of the threads on the first page based on their scores and the other half would just be new threads.

I think a lot of interesting topics are being lost in the shuffle lately, but maybe it's just me.

MahnaMahna...Just to be politically correct, we don't use the term "retarded" anymore. ChrisBanks threads could possibly cause someone to be considered "developmentally disabled"!

BasementDweller...While the rep system is not broken, per se, there are many of us who have maxed it out (2.1 billion rep points). :D

Not sure I agree about good threads getting lost due to new threads, but good threads are being flooded with irrelevant bickering to the point that it is painful to even try to read. CJ's wrist thread would be an example.

Slashdot used to have a rating system for posts on each thread which would hide trolls and magnify good responses. Seemed to work well there. Then there is dig....and reddit...

Ummm yeah...maybe the forum software could use some updating. And who knows maybe that would help the speed issues we see every once in a while. Who knows...

I am going back to bug the instructors some more :P
