I have something to add to HKWONG's comments.

Sure, Jamie was the one that posted Chris Bartram threads (Wong posted a few as well), originally with Chris' permission to stir up action for Chris. If you go back and look at all of the posts made by CHRIS BARTRAM you can pretty much tell when the posts were made at Chris' request. Most of the ones in the "I want more action" threads were made by Chris thru Jamie or Wong over the phone. That is why early on I verified that it really was Chris looking for action because he had knowledge of what Jamie and Wong were doing... BUT, knowing what you know now and who was in control of the login and PW, you can tell who was making the posts that were offensive and did not represent Chris well. I told Chris once Jamie started to get loose with some of the posts that he needed to get the password from Jamie to let me change it to cut Jamie off. Chris is one of the three best friends I have on earth and is more like a little brother to me (much more than my own biological brother), he is the most stand up, patient, respectful, and honest guy on the planet and I hated seeing Jamie drag Chris' good name thru the mud.... Plus, it absolutely pisses me off that Jamie has had the audacity to drag Chris' name thru the mud pushing his own aggenda. Chris has been a very good friend and has tried to mentor Jamie since he was 13 or so but personality wise Jamie is cut from a much different cloth than Chris. Chris likes Jamie, as do I, he's a good kid and we've all been good friends for years but we've been dealing with Jamie since he was 13 and Jamie for most is an aquired taste. But Jamie has been a horrorshow on AZB from day one.... He is just not cut out to be a poster because he is too quick tempered and takes peoples jabs and flames way to personally. In Chris' defense in all of this, he is pretty much computer illiterate and has never been past the main AZB home page and has no idea of the scope of what the forums really are and how far reaching AZB is.... There have been a few times when Jamie got out of line on the CB account and I made the call to Chris to let him know what was going on, he would make a call to Jamie and tell him to stop or tone it down, I also told Chris to get me the PW to get him off but most of the time Chris was on the road and had business on his mind and not understanding AZB didn't think it was a really big deal until today.... I called him once I seen Jamies first post to Jay and the latter one that was way out of line in regard to Hunter and told him how far out of line Jamie was and that he needed to pull the plug on Jamie ASAP because it was making Chris look really bad... Chris made the call and told Jamie to pull the plug but not before the CB user name was banned by Wilson. I knew this post was coming to Jay from Jamie (CB) since Jamie started woofing at Jay during the chat of Chris' match Thursday night on TAR. Jay got Jamies nose open and I knew Jamie couldn't let it rest and I told Chris that on the phone Friday to get me the PW so I could block him from posting but it ended up being a day late and a dollar short....... I'm sure if Chris had it all to do over again he would have put myself or Billychips in control of his name but Ray and I are both self employed and I am sure he did not want to bother us with it. I just want everyone here to know that knows Chris well, has just met Chrisonce or a few times, or has seen him play that he is just what you see, a stand up, patient, respectful, and honest guy that always conducts himself as a professional and foremost a gentleman.... And most of all, he is not at all like what has been portrayed as Chris Bartram here!

That was nice of you to lay it all out. Most of us that have met Chris knew there was something really wrong with the first post made under his name yesterday. Chris has always been a stand up guy and a true sportsman.
Tell Little Bear we think he still rocks and he
played well from what we heard.
thanks

Thanks, Saw, for the explanation. I was pretty sure that wasn't Chris posting. Anyone who has ever met Chris knows that is most definitely not his style. LOL! :p

It is a shame to see his namesake on the Banned List, though I understand completely why it is there. ;)

Maybe the real Chris Bartram could create a new forum name like I-M-CHRIS-BARTRAM or something like that. :D

Then again, maybe he's better off leaving the forums alone. I do think there are quite a few pool players, prominent Hall of Famers, action men, young guns, and legends, who are in a read-only mode on this forum; lurkers, if you will! :sorry:

Permanently banned members creating multiple identities willy nilly seems to be a trend with flamers, bullies, and trolls in forum culture.

I can only hope they put the noose around their own collective neck(s) sine die.

Choosing Jamie to do his posting indicates a serious problem with decision making. A guy on the road should, it seems to me, have better judgement of how a guy is going to treat the world around him.. on or off the internet. It creates doubts in my mind about Chris... whom I've not met.

But even if I had met him, I would now wonder, at least just a little, about his judgement. In the future I'd have to be watching Chris more closely.

I guess that I have to have doubts about anybody who lets someone else use their name.

I have a feeling that Chris, like so many pool folks out there, isn't into the Internet, much less a pool forum.

In some ways, he just may be better off! :grin-square:

Saw,
good read. I agree with all your assessments. My eyes are bleeding now though, use some spaces between sentences every now and then, lol.

Chris

Those of us that have been around computers forever forget how little importance many place on them and the net. I have a friend's first computer on the way now and he is in his early sixties. He doesn't know how to turn one on yet!

Easy to believe that Chris didn't place much importance on the net or realize the damage to his rep that someone else could cause posting in his name. I suspect he thought it was like telling somebody to woof for him a bit in a local pool hall.

I do feel badly for Chris though. He is an outstanding youg man with character and plenty of heart.

I've seen him play in person twice now and both times he was just a stand up guy. No BS of any sort. Just bet and play. Once I saw him win and once he lost, but acted the same after each.

It's a shame anyone would try and present him as anything less.

LOL how can you pass judgement on someone you have not met. Besides I am sure every decision you have ever made in life has been in good judgement. IMHO you used bad judgement with this post. So maybe the world should watch you a little more closely

Just goes to prove the (relatively, in Internet time) old adage:

"On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Internet,_nobody_knows_you're_a_dog

Meaning, people can represent themselves as *anyone* and you can't know 100% whether they are honest or not, without going outside the net (like what happened here, with some phone calls).

The moral of the story? Never take someone's net identity at face value without verification.

The SAW covered this pretty good. Chris B doesn't know much about AZB and I'm sure he was just hoping to have the plan rustle up some action for him and that he didn't plan on having his name drug through the mud.

I like what SAW said about Chris. That's pretty sporty words about a poolplayer.

Very good point, Scott. The internet (especially the forums) can become like the wild, wild west if left unattended, but I think AZBILLIARDS is a better place than most because it well controlled, both by its members and by a small group of moderators.

Did you notice how most people reacted when it was realized that the Chris Bartram posts were phony? They all rallied around until the true story came out.

And Mr Wilson jumped on it right away and solved it well. Sometimes he must feel like he's monitoring a kindergarten class. Full credit to him, and the other guys who try to keep this place what it should be.

Thanks for the link to the cartoon. It reminded me of a Gary Larsen "The Far Side"

Nice post Saw. Sounds like Chris is a better friend to Jaime than Jaime is to Chris. That is unfortunate but from Jaime's attitude on here & in chat, not surprising. We all have friends that we have to make 'excuses' for, some more than others.

I learned it is a bad mistake to post something on here even on someone's behalf let alone under someone's name. I don't think people that don't post or read the forums understand how threads can twist/turn & even trying to make a simple point for someone else can run a strange course. It isn't as simple as saying Chris wants some action, who wants to step up.

Saw, can you verify if that was actually Chris in the chat the last two nights? I believe it was but want to be sure. I did see someone signed in as 'Bergman' but when I called them out as an imposter they quickly signed off. I am 99.9% sure of the person that was signed in trying to be Justin - and this someone has been banned from AZ multiple times.

good job Saw

Damn, that was a long ass post! All of it is very true, but I think people still need to be aware of the point of Jamie's post. Obviously he could have said it a little differently, but according to many accounts, Dechaine acted like a punk, before, during, and after the match. Chris never let it bother him, played great and drilled the kid. It is just a shame that Chris comes out looking bad, when this couldn't be further from the truth. The truth is, people keep talking about Mike Dechaine and how great he plays and that he has a backer that will bet seven digits....Yada Yada Yada. When it got right down to it, between the whole Dechaine camp, all they could come up with a measly $7000. TAR was initially going to make them forfeit the $1000 that was posted. This would have gave a black eye to the Action Report, all though they did absolutely nothing wrong. Chad was on the phone with everyone he knew trying to drum up additional action on this punk. Chris, being the nice guy and gentleman that he is, lets them play for the money they have, and does not just take the $1000. So all you people that got to watch the live streaming, FOR FREE, should be thankful to Chris, not upset with him because he was a little hot for what happened and let Jamie post on his behalf. Get over it!!! It wasnt even that bad. The only people that have any right to be even a little upset, would be Helfert and Dechaine. I am pretty sure Jay and Chris have already worked it out. As for Dechaine, if he doesnt like it, maybe he can practice up and get his ass back up to the table, if he can get his millionaire backer to find 5 digits, and try not to get robbed after doing so! I would venture to say that Chris might just be able to find enough money to cover any action that they might have, and if the millionaire tries to high roll him, all I have to say is be very careful. Your just might get your action covered.

Not knowing Chris, and never being around Jamie in person, I guess I can see where you might think this. Chris not knowing much about the forums, yes, it was probably a bad decision to let Jamie post for him. If you were watching all this woofing at a tourney, where jamie and a couple of other guys were involved in the woofing to stir up action for Chris, it would come across quite different. Now don't get the impression I'm sticking up for Jamie, he's stepped over the line too much on here in the past. But Chris knows he can help woof up matches in person, and probably assumed it was the same thing on here. Just not realizing Jamie's negotiation skills on the net, ain't very good.
I've known Chris for a long time, never actually hanging around with him. I have seen him loads of times thru the years, and never seen him act any way other than a gentleman. He's a great player and great asset to pool.
We all have to make our judgements about people when we meet them, just don't let this way too heavy against him.

I really doubt Chris is going to lose any sleep at all regarding this. People take this forum WAY too serious at times. This is an internet forum for chrissakes!!! A little woofing never hurt anybody. As for costimg him matches, I would go the other way and say this might actually help drum up some. Damn, how sweet would a rematch be??? Better yet, how sweet would it be for Dechaine to find the "stolen" money, round up some more, add another zero, and try Chris some more???
