Stakehorse Needed for John Schmidt

hi

charlie williams asked me if he could post on here about staking me.the person who posted is charlies friend.anyway all the crap ive had to read about why dont i put up my own money, and is john broke etc, etc, has gotten me to the point where its not worth the trouble.99 percent of the tourneys these days pay so bad that getting half of what you win is just about a waste of time.the only reason i have played a few tourneys over the years was to pay my dues and win something big like a usopen.well ive done that now and 6 months later i have not received a single offer from any company .so in a nut shell if someone wants to back me dont worry about it ,its not worth your time or mine.not to mention all the crap i have to read when i do ask for a backer. as soon as the tourneys start paying decent money is the day ill start staking myself.until then you will see me on the tourney trail very little if ever .now all you youngsters get out there and play everday so someday you can be a great player and make 20000 a year if your lucky.oh by the way in twenty years when gas is 10 dollars a gallon first place in a pro tourney will still be 10000,good luck to you.lol

John I dont think anyone was saying that you were trying to scam them. It was just odd that someone other than you asked for you to be staked when you have asked personally in the past. Nothing wrong with having sponsors IMO. You have proven in the past to be a man or your word and that you play as hard as anyone for the cash.

Don't get too upset John,

Most responses have been positive, this thread was started by a third party which always makes people wonder a little

Also, sponsors in this sport are few and far between, yes a cuetec type Earl Strickland deal would be nice but most companies just are not going to get a return on their money, and those who might are often too short sighted to see it

The problem seemed to be that YOU didn't ask for a backer, some poster, with VERY few posts to boot, from N.Y. asked for your backing. I don't think you will have any problem whatsoever finding backers on this site once you ask for backing YOURSELF. After the fiasco with the stolen cue, I think people on this site are a little leery/suspicious. Good luck getting backed, and good luck in the tourney. Love your game!!! Your'e a 1st class act!!!

Well said John. Some people just done know how tuff it is out there. I have always enjoyed watching you play and to me you are one of the best out there and I will always be a true friend to you. If you decide not to play you will be missed. Good luck, Doug

Problem is this bunch of jackals jumped all over someone based on their own paranoid suspicions.

By the way John, did any of these Filipino backers even think about trying you on the bet you offered a while back?

Don't let the negative comments get you down. Just consider the source on that stuff. If I had the money I'd back you no questions asked. Very few of the top tennis players or golfers are paying their own entry fees, it's a shame that the top pros in pool have to pay an entry fee.

Good luck to you.

Well I hope some of you guys are happy on this thread. You ruined a good thing for a lot of AZ Members and John. Sleep well...and LONG. Johnnyt

I second that

Here! Here!

John, please don't be too disheartened by the few naysayers. I know the "Gang of Ten" last time could easily have been the "Gang of Hundreds!" Not to mention how pleased the backers were just to have the opportunity to back you!

Don't let 'em get you down. You're too good for that!

While watching John Schmidt play a few different times on television I thought to myself, "This guy has really got some charisma." and I was amused by the sound of his voice and the comments he would make while playing.

I thought that he would be really good for the pool scene and was very disheartened when I read his post that he might not play as much.

Keep doing your thing Johnny. For you and for your fans!

right on except one little detail

The one catch even looking at this is that the way many events are structured you also have to have a little luck on your side or at least no bad luck. You can lose the flip or the lag and be finished for a match. All the skill in the world doesn't mean much if you are just warming a chair. Once I dogged a shot in a match on the winner's side to get a lynch mob off of my butt and never shot again on either side. It can as easily be losing a lag or one break failing to pocket a ball.

poverty level in America = under $18,000 year

Touring Pro player expenses of traveling/entry$/lodging = $40,000 year

3 - 1st place finishes = $30,000
2 - 2nd place finishes = $10,000
3 - 3rd place finishes = $10,000
9 - 4th through 12th finishes = $8,000
TOTAL winnings =$58,000
subtract expenses -$40,000

Thats if you play that good.

Without a stakehorse/sponsor would we have pro players? or pro tourneys?

You're right I "don't understand the pool scene" and you do, what was I thinking. And I'm sure you're unintelligent use of the word "retard" makes everyone on here with a developmental disability or with a family member that has one very proud. What a hick!

Confusion...

Sorry about the confusion everyone...

This post that I created is actually legitimate. John asked me to post it for him yesterday.

Letting you know that is NOT a scam, please feel free to PM John himself to avoid any further confusion.

As for myself, I will be in Jax for the event. And I will be more than happy to discuss this situation in person.

Again, my apologies for the confusion. I thought it was a pretty cut and dry question with specific details but I apparently was mistaken. lol

Billiards Digest December 2006. Maybe Jeanette Lee needs to hold a workshop for professional pool players on how to market yourself if so many are having trouble finding sponsors.

John Schmidt sits on my desk every day with his santa hat on, so the name is out there... just gotta be proactive I guess; ask around and keep playing tournaments with the support of THIS BOARD if that's what it takes to get the name to translate to $$$$ for sponsors. The members of this board have been supportive in the past... don't see why we wouldn't be in the future for a very worthwhile endeavor.

Well said! John has a face made for TV.. He could easily get some guest roles on sitcoms and such... Jeanette is rich because she's hot, of course, but also because she gets out there and does exhibitions and such.

John is travelling around playing in tournaments.. Has he put together a trick shot show? I mean, he's a freaking U.S. Open Champion, for crud's sake! He can command half the gate receipts at $15.00-$20.00 a head in a LOT of poolrooms across the country.

He has often made it clear he is proud of his skills with a cue, as well he should be. So perhaps he should consider doing travelling lessons? If pool is a rich man's sport, now, then go out and target that demographic!

To be blunt, every time John travels out of state to attend a tournament, and does not have exhibitions lined up, he is throwing money out the window. What he has going for him is the fact that he is a U.S. Open Champion. People will pay to be at his exhibitions just for the CHANCE to say "I beat John Schmidt, a U.S. Open Champion, at an exhibition. I rule!"

Not many of them will, but they will still pay for the chance.

There's quite a few pool players in America that have the capability to earn 100K a year, above and beyond expenses.

I hope this comes out the way that I want it to. There seems to be 3 types of AZB'rs. Some are selfish, some are jealous and some don't care either way. The jealous ones are that way for thier own reasons. I am one of the selfish ones. This is why. I enjoy sharing in your successes. Watching this forum for the next update on your matches brings lots of enjoyment. I feel like I am a part of your journey. I was not one of the ten who assisted you in the last tourney, but I still felt I had a stake in what you were trying to accomplish. So this is why I'm selfish, I want to join you each and every time you play and cheer for you. So please don't count this forum out in your future. I and I hope the rest of the AZB'rs feel strongly enough to let you know that!! A fan and supporter.

Thanks for listening:( :(
