Will Prout has received the case and has given me permission to "turn it over" and show you the back. I am especially honored to present this case to Will and the public. I wish that I could have made the ICCS show this year to do it in person.

Roy Mallot gets the credit for introducing Will to GTF cases and bringing up the possibility that we could do a case like this.

In my life as a case maker there have been many cases that have been inspiring. None as much as the Szamboti box case done by Fellini.

Why is that you might ask? Well it's because the simplicity of design on that platform hides the complexity of execution. It seems so easy to draw a few rectangles and diamonds but turns out not to be so easy. I have often looked at that case throughout the years and thought about how it was done and how I would do it. Sometimes though you need a little push to go through with things and this is an example of it. When Will asked me to do this case and have it done by the ICCS I accepted the challenge.

I won't bore you with the details. Suffice it to say that I have learned a lot more about case decorating and we are much better for it.

Will Prout has this case on display now in time for the ICCS. Justin from TAR has said he will try and get some better pix of it. I hope that he can and if not I am sure that Roy or Will can arrange some. I just want to thank again the GTF folks, Roy Mallot and Will Prout for this opportunity to extend Bob Hempel's legacy and be a part of cue and case history.

Beautiful work John, that is as classic as it comes, and it could not have been made for a better Guy.

That's a case befitting the Gus that's going inside. I was speaking with Will yesterday while he was waiting for that case to arrive and he was like a kid at Christmas, pretty much illustrating why we collect beautiful things.

That's a beauty of a case, John, great work. Thanks for showing it.

Just so it can be seen how perfect that case is. Here's the cue it will house (talk about a museum piece):

John,

Please accept my deepest thanks and virual handshake for the work you did on this case. I must tell everyone that this case is unbelievable, one of the very best cases ever made! You delivered to me exactly what was in my minds eye, a case that perfectly represents a partnership with the Gus box cue, my favorite cue.

The cue and case together make a matched set that are unparalleled. Those that know me know I am the farthest thing from a braggart, and I do not want my comments taken the wrong way. I just find I cannot sit still without commenting to everyone how wonderful the design layout and execution are in this case. I have a lot of cases, yet I cannot take my eyes off this case....and I have had it for several days!

I look forward to our next one, as we have already talked.

Will, congrats on one hell of a set up there with that case and cue. I think you should concentrate on your Zamboti box cue and let me take care of that Searing for a while.

Take care and sorry I could not make the show this past weekend, I was busy catching a monster brown trout:thumbup:

Take Care

Hi Don,

I`ll let you shoot with the Searing at Shooter`s while I eat the trout.

Heh, heh, heh.....

This remains one of my favorite cues, and matching case.
I haven’t looked at the pictures for quite some time.

So near but so far. Wil sniped a bid last second or I’d own that cue. I’m happy my friend Wil got it. After it sold a few months later I spoke to the seller, hell of a great guy too.

JB made history with that case 11 almost 12 years ago. That’s a very special case for a very important cue in our sports history.

Wil has a tremendous love for pool, cues and people in pool. I’m glad he has it in his collection. Far as I know he still has it, if he doesn’t I’m pretty sure who does and it’s in a good spot. I keep all my Szam’s nice and warm at night.

Happy holiday
