The end of my revo

I’m really finding it hard to believe the shaft shattered honeslty and the fact that you have yet to post pics has my curiosity peaked also. I’ve seen my Revos get absolutely smashed around at leagues in lousy bars for over a year with stools slamming them etc and they don’t even look any different from the days they were new.

I really cant believe predator wont replace the shaft if you contact them. Thats just horrible customer service.

Pictures please.

It isn't, as a rule of thumb.

Once an item is in the hands of the end user, it is out of the manufacturer/ seller,s control and a no questions asked return policy isn't a realistic expectation.

I'd like to see pics too. It is a unique enough allegation to expect pulling it out of a case to not be too inconvenient to undertake.

Lol here comes the people saying I’m lying. I don’t care I’m not posting pics because I don’t care to. I was just posting my experience going back to a regular shaft. If you don’t believe me I’m not losing sleep over it. Maybe after a few days I’ll send some pics to predator and see what happens. It’s just $500 so in the grand scheme of life I don’t care lol.

I completely agree with you and won’t be mad at predator if they don’t. If $500 was a lot of money to some one they probably shouldn’t have spent it on a cue stick shaft lol

In my opinion, there simply had to be some damage (scoring/crack/abuse) to the carbon fiber composite for this to happen.
There is a data point missing... sounds good but this just doesn't happen

My opinion is based on 18 months of power breaking with my 12.4 Revo, it has a Samsara jump/break tip and hits like a beast.
I use the 12.4 because I didn't care for the size of the BK Rush shaft.
I can't see a stun shot (regardless of power) creating more stress than a break considering my usage is home practice, 3 leagues a week, and weekend tournaments.

What leads you to rule out defects is materials, design, or wormanship?

Is your car warranty good if you change the tires?

.

It would depend, I guess. I don’t know anything about warranties, never looked into them. But the OP said he had a non-predator rep put a new tip on the cue. He admitted to “modifying it”. The guy I quoted is saying that Predator has horrible customer service because they wouldn’t just hand over a new $500 shaft to someone who “modified” the product.

Long story short (too late for that, I know) if the warranty says you can not modify the shaft, and the OP modified the shaft, I would not consider predators refusal to replace it as “horrible customer service”.

I wouldn't consider it horrible customer service either. Never said it, so why the quotes?

Predator allows the tip to be replaced AFAIK. Was the shaft modified? I'll have to go back and read again. I thought he just had the tip replaced.

I am interested, curious, about how and why the shaft failed. Warranty aside.

Define YOU.

In this case, if YOU do the work, most likely voids the warranty.

Let's say YOU change the tires on the factory rims, then you complain that you can't figure out the rattles in the new car that's still under warranty.

Dealer asks, "how did you balance the tires?" (I am sure Doc could change tires AND balance them, I am sure you can understand there are many dummies who would screw it up.)

Same with tips and shafts, that is why they want to know who did the work.

I hope you appreciated this one Doc, humor is always good.

I wasn’t quoting you with that. My initial post in this thread (the one YOU responded to) was in response to a guy calling this “horrible customer service”. Also, the word “modified” was used by the OP, so you’d have to ask him.

He stated he has been shooting with it over a year now.

I'm no expert, but I have dealt with some extremely critical carbon fiber composite components in the aerospace industry. I really doubt CF cracks and goes through slow breaks over time like a hidden fault/crack inside a wood bore.
I am going to assume there was some previous damage introduced physically scoring through the tow. In this assumption, let's say the OP (somehow) didn't know or see it.

Otherwise, he smashed the damn thing...and he has been swearing by it for a year to anyone and everyone that asked and now he there simply needs to be a good story going away from it.
In this assumption, let's assume it would be too painful and/or embarrassing for someone with 2874 AZ posts to put up a damn easy-ass photo!!!

My experience with fishing rods is that if they take a sharp impact they may look perfectly ok to the naked eye, but may have cracks that cannot be seen. They can work ok for a long time and then without notice snap under even a gentle load. If I owned a REVO I wouldn't be smacking it on the table to test it...I suspect this kind of thing will happen more and more as the resin age and the shaft becomes more brittle. Just a guess from a non-engineer, but I guess time will tell.

Agreed, time will tell.
I have over 18 months on 2 Revo shafts with constant play.
Typical play (multiple league and weekend tournament) with a 12.4 and power breaking with another.
Started with a Hammerhead and settled on using a Samsara jump/break tip.
This has to be more strenuous than the average users... Not so much a an issue with the pad or vault plate so far...
I have no stake in the Revo being good or bad, personally, I prefer the cleaning aspect and the lack of dings/dents...
Meanwhile, it plays as good as anything else I have owned over the last 50 years.

I have cold snapped a few fishing rods in my time, it never happens at a good time either.
I wouldn't consider a hook set motion to equate to a stun shot... guess I really need to see that stroke.

-To the OP

-Predator's site explicitly states the warranty will only be void if the layer below the tip is less than a specified thickness of 0.25mm. Simply changing the tip by Joe Shmo will not void the warranty.

-How could you make this post and not include pictures?! Broken revo pictures are gold.

-I don't know why people dog Predator's warranty so much. I've been using their shafts since 1998 or so. I had two delaminate. I took them to the predator booth at the Expo, two separate years, and had a brand new shaft given to me. This was in the pre-cat days. IDK if they still warranty them that way or not. But my experience with the predator warranty has been very good.

I will actually second that statement....I’ve seen it happen with golf club shafts as well. When I was a kid I put slight pressure on my dads driver club and it just snapped clean in half where it met the clubs head.....damndest thing. Seen carbon forks fail on bikes as well.

It does happen and it’s not like predators equipment has been unbreakable in the past so....totally possible

Honestly I haven’t contacted them yet but from past experiences from members and friends I don’t expect anything. I modified the cue and they are a big company now that doesn’t give that personal touch. It’s all a numbers game and that’s fine being in retail myself I know how people can be. I have people trying to get over on the company I work for every day. People who I feel are normally honest but when dealing with a large company they don’t feel it’s stealing.

First it is good you were able to discover that you like your former cue and therefore you are able to shoot pool right away ;) just out of curiosity - how did you modify Revo?

Broken, snapped, fishing rods, golf clubs... I've seen it, done it...
However, the OP specifically states it shattered in the middle and for some reason the posting is missing a photo.
When asked, its in the case and simply doesn't want to waist time to pull it out; its too much trouble.
Nearly 2900 AZ posts isn't an issue for him but a photo of a shaft he shattered during a stun shot is?

I’d think with a non solid especially there would be a lot of stress in th me middle or said shaft. Of course we would all love to see a picture
