The FATBOY CHALLENGE TEN BALL

Morra's match with Van Corteza was an interesting one. This was a somewhat choppy match, and the Van Corteza that dismissed Van Boening easily on Saturday night wasn't the one that showed up for this match. When Van Corteza missed a relatively simple ten ball that would have made it 3-3, Morra hit him with three racks for a 6-2 lead. Trailing 7-3, Van Corteza crapped in the ten ball to pull within 7-4, but at 7-5, Van Corteza made two errors, one of which left Morra a relatively easy carom chance to make the ten ball. When Morra hit it very poorly, the momentum of the match shifted dramatically, with Van Corteza grabbing a seemingly safe 12-8 lead. Surpirsing many onlookers, Morra fought the good fight to pull within 13-12, and he had an opportunity to tie it at 13-13 if he could execute a fairly tricky carom on the six ball, but he wasn't up to it, and the miss sealed his fate, with Van Corteza advancing.

wow what a night. My back went bad REAL bad from the trip here, the WORST its been in months, scary bad. I layed in the room almost all day until Jay called me down to the tourny. I had to lay across 2 chairs it hurt so bad. I was 10' from 2 tables(what a treat that was). I enjoyied all the matches tonight. The good news is that right after the tournment I was standing up talking to someone and my back just stopped hurting(POOF!! jut like that). Its kinda scary how fragile it is, I came back to the room so it hopefully stays good for the next few days.

The tournament will finis great no matter what, Efren made the best shot so far a 2 rail kick out of a dead hook, and Left Ralf in jail as he thinned the OB and the CB only rolled 3" after the hit the CB rolled about 11' before the hit, talk about touch. Nobody should play that good. WOW!!! Nobody has ever had the touch Efren has, period. i know its been argued about more than perhaps any topic , but IMO Efren is the most blessed/talented player ever.

Looks like you guys got the whole scoop already, thanks to Sunny and Stu (I almost said Sunny and Cher). Great match-ups tomorrow. Perfect, two filipinos vs. two "others". Any of the four could win, they have all been impressive. If you watch Ralf play, you appreciate what a fantastic player he is. Describing his run-outs does not do him justice. There are no flaws in his game. He IS the complete player.

Mika is super solid as well, and plays with total confidence. He just overwhelms the balls and makes them do his bidding. He is in control of the table at all times. Francisco is the money man. You can sense his hunger to win. He just wants to mop you up if you're his opponent. He pounces on every opportunity and makes you pay.

Lee Van is simply one more in the long line of filipino champions. He has a shot for every situation, and executes it to perfection. The filipino background in rotation equips them to handle anything that comes up on the table. They are not fazed by having to shoot an awkward combination or tricky billiard.

All are in the money now, guaranteed $2,500 each. Tomorrow the matches are worth another $2,500 minimum.
I had a quick bite with Fatboy after the matches. I told him I was going online, and he said to tell everyone hi.

I lost my first One Pocket match 3-2. All three of my matches have been 3-2. I played Bob M??? from Conneticut, an old friend of Lisciotti's. He plays pretty good, and my game is pretty ragged. I feel like I suck. I'm so unhappy with my game. I need to practice but I never do.

Would that be Bob Madenjin, Jay? Otherwise known as Dr. Bob. He plays pretty strong. With everything else you've got going on I wouldn't be too terribly upset about it. Too bad they don't have that good 'naner pudding like they did in Fayetteville. Would probably make the loss sting a little less.

Interesting...could you WEI the shot? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on whether the attitude at that level is to go down shooting instead of ducking. (say a 50/50 safe vs. a 30/70 shot: Do they fire away w/ th latter?)

Looks like my horses are running strong. I've got Mika in the big pool and Ralf in the calcutta, both split with Ktown. I also had Busty over Darren last night.

Yeah, this shot was pretty special. Souquet played a masterful safety to send the two ball two rails under a cluster near the bottom right corner. While I don't remember the exact position, the gist of it was this. Before Efren's shot, the balls looked like this, and I've showed Efren's kicking line:

The remarkable result after Efren's slow speed two rail kick was this:

Then came Souquet's masterful response, hooking back by kicking to the bottom rail, inducing Efren to sell out.

The lethal result was that the cue ball was left buried under the three ball cluster, and Efren was in big trouble. This sequence was the defensive highlight of the match, and clearly showcased the skills of two of the all-time greats. Ralf ran out on his very next turn in a rack that, if memory serves, gave him a 10-8 lead.

These guys are good!

I would have to agree. I have never really watched Souquet play but he was by far the most impressive player when I watched the original 16.

He consistently hammered the break and planted his cue ball dead center in the table. It was truly impressive to watch.

His ball pocketing is top notch as well and I cannot remember one ball that even rattled. He kicks well and overall looks flawless at the table. I thought exactly as Jay did, Souquet is a machine. I was sitting next to Fatboy and we truly enjoyed the show Souquet was putting on.

Chamat played a great match against him just to keep it close. He got down early but battled back, going into a lock down safety gear to slow Souquet down and work his way back into the match. At 11-11, Chamat scratched on the break and Souquet took that opening and put the match away.
