Why you say that?? You don't think or boys can beat em?? I hope that they smash the living christ out of Europe. Wanna place a few bets on this??

We can bet whatever u want I'm sure there r mutual pool players we know who we can post the money with

wait. why isn't Earl on the list?

The event is going to be held in England this time, and could be possible speculation on my part, Mark feared that the Brits fans might upset the fragile Earl , which could effect performance.

There have been a host of good ideas brought up by members of this forum regarding the new look MC team. But if you look at this link

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=346554

then it may enlighten you to the fact that Mark was thinking along those lines before he was offered the post.
Quite a few things suggested by members are already in the pipeline (and some due to financial limitations) may not see the light of day this year but are likely to show up in the future. He has covered a lot of the bases. Mark's MC campaign is being run like a corporation with long term success in mind. He is leaving no stone unturned to achieve this goal.
Inevitably, there will be some casualties, but Captain Wilson is looking at the Big Picture but with a degree of tunnel vision. That title is something of a misnomer because he is more like the CEO of this setup.

I sure hope Jeremy Sossei is among the final five on this team. He was 7th at the last US Open and 2nd at Turning Stone and is probably the third best player on the Joss Tour, behind only Mike Dechaine and Jayson Shaw. He's a quality guy in every respect, too.

A team without any representation from the Northeast would greatly disappoint me as that's where there are more tourneys than anywhere else, due to the presence of the Predator tour and the Joss tour, two of the more prominent tours in America. The guys in the Northeast, for this reason, compete more than anyone else and have more reason to keep their games sharp than most.

Most of all, though, congratulations to all those chosen and good luck to all of them in reaching the final five. I applaud Mark Wilson for choosing players so early and feel that this gives his players every chance to prepare in full for December. I'm sure he'll make good choices when it comes to the final five for Blackpool. I truly hope that future captains will follow Mark's example here.

On a final note, the choice of Don Wardell as an assistant is an outstanding one. I have read a couple of posts in this thread that suggest he is unfit for the post. This couldn't be further from the truth. Don has a long history of supporting pros and pro pool and just because he chooses to do so in relative obscurity, it does not nullify his continual support of and contributions to the sport. He brings a strong work ethic and high sense of professionalism to any endeavor and his appointment is something to celebrate.

Great move making these choices early. Message sent to this group of guys, that being, you have 6 months to get your game to peak level. Dechaine may be a great player but that doesn't necessarily qualify him as a great team mate or a classy representative of our country. The Moscow Cup is about a lot more than putting the 5 best players together to play the opponent. I would have thought the last two teams would have adequately demonstrated that.

Landon is a college student. It would have been extremely unfair to Landon to have chosen him for the team. He needs to focus on college and enjoy that phase of his life. Plenty of opportunities down the road for Landon should be choose to pursue that path with his life.

Don Wardell is a great choice as assistance coach. He's someone Mark knows, trusts, can count on and has impeccable integrity.

Win or lose, I am one hundred percent confident this team will represent the USA with dignity and honor. Best of luck Mark, Don and those fortunate to make the team.

because even a Corey that practices zero and hasn't won anything in a while (although he just won the US barbox 8-ball event) can still beat anyone else on the team outside of Shane.

I'm not on the list and prolly wasn't even thought about
But bring Corey to Columbus he can play me even 10 ball there
In fact leave Shane home I'll play the whole team

if I were to pick, I'd choose SVB first then Earl. I think Earl Strickland played very well last year.

Earl won 2 matches out of 8.
No european had a losing record.
I know earl can still bring some great pool, especially for a guy his age,
Physically, he can still run racks.
But I don't think the drive or mental attitude is there.

Just curious as to why Archer wasn't in the running.

Archer won 0 matches last year and like Earl seems to have lost that fire.
It's time to let those guys rest. They were fantastic in the 80's and 90's
but they can't ride that to a 10,000 dollar paycheck year after year just for showing up.

Not knocking your heart as that is a strong offer... but the game is 9B not 10B... would your offer still stand?

I'm curious how you'd match up with this crowd Chris. I kinda feel you'd be right there in the mix. I also feel you should put yourself out there a little more like Bergman seems to be starting to do...

Anyway, like your game and like your style...

Earl won 2 matches out of 8. ...

Earl played in 5 matches -- one singles match, three doubles matches, and the team match. He was on the winning side only once -- his doubles match with Shane.

[Edit: Earl did play well in the losing team match, as he won both of the games he played.]

This is an interesting list, a few make total sense to me, maybe three more are good choices who I feel could get the job done with good coaching and proper discipline and two make no sense to me, at all, imho.

And please, add me to the sizeable and growing list of those who object to Mike Deschaine not being included on the list of eight.

Mark Wilson has had a problem with MD for a while as he was quoted after being named to head up Team USA as saying " and don't come up to me saying you won The Ocean State", clearly a reference Mike without actually naming him.

Obviously, we want to field a team that will give us our best chance to win and I believe excluding our #2 player in America, while possibly an earnest example of tough love, is short-sighted.

I have a lot of respect for Mark but if he felt there may have been some chemistry concern or bad-boy behavior issue with Mike, in an ideal world, I would have liked to see him try to iron things out with MD. This brash, cocky, 20-something *champion* has done nothing so egregious as to warrant exclusion from MC consideration, imo. Oh well.

With the current list, I'm liking:

SVB - of course

Oscar

Jeremy

Corey

Brandon

and as a solid alternate, Chris Bartram. now that would be strong!

best,
brian kc

A vice-captain has already been chosen. It's Willebetmore (Don Wardell). :)

What is this "vice captain " crap? You are a captain, a co- captain or a assistant captain. Never heard it used this way, then again words are changed everyday . I'm done:)
