What is your least favourable operation when you guys make your cues?

breathing all that dust

i have a full face mask but its a pain with my glasses, so i have a choice not seeing or coughing !!!!!!!

I love the look of the finish, but I hate the process and the frustration that occasionally/often comes with it.

I guess if I had a "put in cue-hit a button-finnish on-done" machine I would be one happy chap.

If I had that machine I'd look forward to the building a bit more......And I thought "Once I have a lathe I'll be happy......boy was I wrong.....sorry WRONG AGAIN!!!!! Finishing is frustrating..................Ray Weeks

I'll start : I'm close to Chris H on this - finnish... I simply can't stand making extra shafts for customers! The ring work, turning and all the rest is nice, interesting but geeezes sealing the rings with CA and putting CA finnish on - give me a break.... Don't get me started on putting finnish on a cue :-(

Least favorite thing to do is turn shaft!! Nothing like turning 150 shafts or so. Favorite part is doing the finish work. I get to see the cue come alive!!!! Nothing else like that at all!!!

I'm pretty sure that I've hated every little process at one time or another but I love what I do.

Filling the trash can. Both filling it from cleaning and disposing of failed projects. Other than that, time spent in the shop is pure joy!

Hi,

Packing and Shipping and going to the Post Office.

I get attached to each custom and kinda hate to see them go!

Rick

I hate sanding or finishing. But Im with Rick, I hate making runs to the post office, I need elves for packing and shipping LOL

I'm on the fence with regard to finishing - I agree with some that it is thrilling to see the cue come alive and I agree with the others that it is a PITA to get finally right. The more of them you do, the pickier you get, or the smaller imperfections you can see - I'm not sure which it is.

Setting the pin and boring, tapping the shaft are up there on my list. Until you get them both finished and are able to screw them together, the question is "Will they flop around like a fish out of water or roll smoothly like I want?"

My 2 cents,

Gary

Paying the bills ! Top that.

Seriously, I hate when I have to use chemicals . I do wear gloves and respirator when wiping wood with lacquer thinner or denatured alcohol.
I also throw the paper in a sealed trash can.

OMG, paying the bills, I think that goes with Snipers bottom tag line.

One of my personal fav things to do was to hand pick wood, one of my least fav things was finding out how much my taste in wood cost me.

Answering the damn phone. It always rings at the wrong time (which is about anytime to be honest).
I don't have a phone in the house but biz is biz so I have one in the shop.
It's uncanny, the ability it has, to know when I've just mixed epoxy.
Brinnnnnnnggggggg.

Hit a button and done!

I guess if I had a "put in cue-hit a button-finnish on-done" machine I would be one happy chap.

Jerry Olivier and others made or make a machine that does just about what you want. It's called UV finishing and when done right it is as good as anything out there, anything.

When I accidentally leave the door open downstairs and my little doggie leaves me a couple of presents for me to clean up.

Other than that, finishing duties. I'll eventually get the hang of it and I'm sure it will be more pleasurable in the near future.

I'm very anal when it comes to things like that. If its not good enuff for me, then its not good enuff for customers.

I drive myself absolutely nuts sometimes, believe me. But thats what this hobby is all about, right.

Pay tons of money to make yourself half crazy.

Finishing used to be my least favorite part of cuemaking. But now that I have my finishing down pretty well, my least favorite part is cleaning the shop. And those of you who have visited my shop know I don't do a very good job at that. It stays a mess and even when we clean up it is still a mess.

About a year ago that could be in bold and truer words never spoken. I talked with a very good friend for hours and he brought me into the real world. Never let what you would like out weigh what you can do.

I do wish my old partner Rich would get back into it, that person was good at it.
