They were usually run by Railroad John or Floyd Baxter and were great events. They filled up 128 man fields on bar table events and had the pros come in for the PBA events on the 9 footers also. They set it up with bleachers and Mike Massey often did trick shot exhibitions. That place really brought the players and gamblers in. Keith and Johnny were always in big action with someone during them. That is where Cliff Joiner came out of nowhere playing all comers. I bet you could fill hundreds of pages of posts just from peoples memories about those Wagon Wheel events. It was the closest thing to a Hustlers Jamboree that the late 80's and early 90's saw.
I miss:
LA Open
Bicycle Club Invitationals
Hard Times Open(s)
Hollywood Billiards Open
Glass City Open
IPT Tourneys
Reno Open (June)
WPC (on US Soil)
Mark Betor Classic
The Las Vegas Open (Hopkins production. Pro Event during APA Nationals in Vegas).
Camel Pro-Billiards Tour

Mine would have to be the old B.C. Open that was promoted and run by a very nice man named Gary Pinkowski. May he rest in eternal peace. What i liked about his tournaments was that he held tournaments for both men and women at the same time at the Holiday Inn in Binghamton NY. It was usually held at the same time as the B.C. Open pro Golf tournament. And a lot of times the pro golfers would come by and chat with the spectators and players. That is where I 1st met Fuzzy Zoeller and Lee Trevino. Like a lot of pool players, both were approachable and would gladly sign autographs for anyone who asked.......Boy what a tournament venue. To bad no one else can get it going again........................mike
