Interesting you should say that, as my memory of PJ is totally the opposite. I remember him having a habit of stating facts and logically slicing through BS, specifically without any name calling. Hmmmm.....

If you look up a banned poster under the "community" link, you can then go to the tab that says "more info" or whatever and see all his posts. Then you can read the last thing he said before getting banned. That'll usually point you in the right direction.
Basically he was getting into it with some other guy and getting less and less civil and the mod said tone it down or get banned. Patrick, being who he is, pretty much said 'I dare you'.
He made threads more spicy. I think Spidey's right though. If he believed something he absolutely would not change positions and would argue the point with you until your fingers fell off. I'm not sure I remember him ever saying "I was wrong". To his credit though I agreed with most of what he said

I personally welcome seeing desenting opinions or disagreements when all to often the sentiment here is far to uniform... People seem to value acceptance and going with the flow of popular opinion (the "cool" people? lol) more than speaking there minds and sometimes giving a unpopular view point way TOO MUCH at times.

I fought with pj as well, going back to early rsb days. I like him and met him and played pool with him. He's a great guy, good player and I wish he hadn't been banned. He has been calling people 'doofus' or 'doofi' (plural??) since long before azb was even a place. Frankly it was part of his charm.
But rules are rules and though I don't remember or didn't see what led to his banning I'll be glad when he returns and hope it's sooner rather than later.
Once I let him have the last (wrong
) word because I was worried if we continued on he might let something slip that would lead to the big 'B'.
I think people should do that more on NPR. Then we'd likely still have some of the characters left that made for entertaining back and forths.

This is exactly why many of us would continually argue with PJ.
He misrepresented SOOO much while manipulating facts in ridiculous ways and constantly using ad hominum attacks on people that disagreed with him.
I gave him rep once, and he gave me rep once.... funny enough, it was the one time that he admitted to being wrong and when I stated that I would try something that was suggested. (as an aside, I always try something before I talk against it (unlike PJ) ever since I discounted Efren's explanation of BHE to me).
I mean I honestly couldn't believe how many people actually listened to PJ and gave credence to some of his crap.
For instance, in one thread he stated that BHE doesn't work and we got into a debate over it. So I got tired of it, immediately went out into my garage with my camera and showed that it DOES work.
He then comes on and says that he didn't say that it didn't work but that it doesn't work perfectly and proceeds to then state the same thing he did in the previous thread about it NOT working....
He CONSTANTLY used name calling and Ad Hominum attacks in his posts.
He would try to discredit people based on ill conceived attacks on grammar and anything that he thought would possibly discredit someone that was completely unrelated to the argument at hand.
If no one would've tried to claim that he didn't resort to name calling and that he stated facts and that he was one of the few intelligent posters on this site, I wouldn't have posted this, but those notions are patently ridiculous.
This kind of reminds me of a funeral for someone that was a horrible person and everyone gets up and makes up stuff about them to make them seem like a better person than they actually were.
