OMG Bob! Now you're really dating both of us! I didn't spend much time on RSB, because of some of the abrasive personalities. But I spend a lot of time on Billiards Digest CCB, along with lots of others. My gosh, that was almost 20 years ago! :thumbup2:

Well as my wife tells me..."You're old! You can't hide it!" Yikes, it is almost twenty years ago isn't it. RSB was ruined by Fast Larry. He ruined Billiards Digest too. I forgot I used to post there as well.

You have to admit though, one of the great things about being old is when you play a young guy and beat him. There are few things on the earth as sweet as that and the expression on the wippersnapper's face!

I've been around this forum for a long time since my junior year of college 2005, but most of you probably don't recognize me because I never posted that much. Also, I've come and gone over the years as sometimes the trending topics don't really interest me.

With this site being around now for quite the time and me being gone for a period of time, it appears to me that lately there has been more of an influx of new members actively posting than in the recent years. I used to read posts and threads and know most people involved. Now I don't know many of them.

Makes me think, who are the Old Schoolers of AZ -

Trigger, Blackjack, Cuaba, Fast N Loose, Fatboy (well only Fatboy1 not Fatboy2), Hangemhigh, JAM, JB Cases, JoeyA, Manwon, Ribdoner, Rossaroni, Williebetmore, Spidey, Houmatroy, Mikeyfrost, lfigueroa, Terry Ardeno, Corvette, JCIN, Jay Helfert, Saw, ME....I am sure there are a slew more but those are off the top of my head.

There are a lot more trolls now. Not since Fast Larry had 50 different identities on RSB (anyone remember: boonsoon, tommytatomatoe, tommydacumcumber, AND arthurschopenhauer?) have I had to filter so many "No Value Added" posters.

Udder than that it is business a usual :) So, where you been?

Guess I'm an "old schooler" This is my second time around AZ. Remember interaction with posters I've not seen on this forum since the site was re-formatted in March of 2003. My thanks go out to Mike and his staff for keeping this forum open. Thanks also to those whom I joined on this journey all those years ago. I'm up for another eight years together. How about you?

I guess i'm older in age more than an old poster on here. I didn't know AZ had been around so long. Johnnyt

"Long time listener, first time caller" (I always wanted to say that somewhere)

I'm going on 52, been in love with the multi-colored spheres since I was
11 back in 1970-1971.

Collected a voluminous amount of info over the years on pool, it's tournaments & great players.

But I found AZB by accident. My kids kept telling me that I could find out lots of stuff about pool players on a thing called the internet.

"What exactly is this "internet" that you speak of?" They said that they could better "explain" it after they had a computer to show me on....I think it was 1998-1999 when we got our first computer.

I'll add several of the finest members on AZB to watchez's list...."Shooting Arts" aka Hu, "JoeyA" aka Joey Aguzin & SJM, aka Stu, "CueJoey", "JimmyG" I love a lot of the members here, but these guys really are top shelf members.

So many great people here. I'll kick myself later for forgetting to add whoever it is I'll remember that I left off.

***Note to JimmyLeggs...I'm very impressed that you remember 8Ball Bernie & "Walt Frazier". Wonder where they are nowadays....

QUOTE]

It's funny you mention that Terry...reminds me of the time I called into the Mancow radio show to answer their mystery video game music question (Frogger). I said the same thing you said in the quote above and won their lovely prize of the day after answering the mystery game music question which was a deck of cards for some weird game lol. I was hoping for something a little nicer but oh well, still was fun to call in.

All those Old Schoolers who are present, signify by writing "aye" in this thread.

Aye! :)

JAM,
Didn't Mike reset all the members dates of joining around March 2003? Seems I recal there were lots of us here & for some reason, he had updated something in March 2003 & it automatically started us all over again at that time. I think AZB is older than 2003....Do you remember any of that?

PS-Thanks Mike & Jerry for maintaining this site!

I know where most of them have gone off too and I can't blame them. People use to pull for the underdogs now, well ill just say now....

the one problem with successful forums is that the membership base size attracts bad elements. Price of success i guess. Kinda makes me think about the guy who gets sued for $10M and he goes to see his Dad to discuss his woes. His Dad gets all teary eyed and says "Son im so proud of you...your a real success!"

I lurked for ages on this site.

True story too, back when the site was in its infancy, me and AZ House Pro discussed him coming to Miami to work as a database programmer. That might have totally queered the Azbilliards action so in retrospect im glad that never worked out.

I am not sure when I signed for AZB as "Instroke" but I didn't really start participating until RSB was devastated in the Fast Larry/Eric Hu/Debra Li tsunami saga. I don't think I belong in the old school club because I came late to the AZB party. Maybe old school on billiard forums in general though.

I simply lost the desire to interact with many that were posting on here. Having a difference of opinion is one thing. Getting personal is another. I came back and have deleted more posts that I typed than I have actually hit the submit key and posted. I'll let playing sheriff at times up to others. I know I have met many great people and have some true friends cause of this site, most of them the Old Schoolers, and thought to myself that I wanted to keep those relationships going.

I did leave out you, Eric, Roy Steffenson, JohnnyT, Tate, Joey, Neil as a few more off the top of my head. I'm sure there are still more.

p.s. I have run behind in the rep department and it is nice to see your name on the first few pages so feel free to leave me some to catch up. :)

Aye......

I consider myself and "old schooler". I've been around since January, 2004. Actually a little earlier than that with a different screen name.....

I remember the RSB days as well, Sean... Fun times...

Mike

I always liked your old avatar. The one with the kid about to skateboard down a huge hill. You had the word Confidence or something listed as tag .

I'm not sure, but if you recall that, then I'm sure it's right. :)

I was a member of Google's RSB NG before I became a member here. Interestingly, it was Brady Behrman who told me about RSB NG. He said there were some cool pool discussions going on, so I just had to check it out.

If only I had known then what I know today about forum culture. :grin-square:

I was posting to RSB NG via AOL dial-up. It was so frustrating because I would create a post, and it would not appear on RSB NG until four or five hours later. Sometimes they didn't show up until the next day. There was no immediate gratification in seeing your post appear, like there is here. :p

RSB kind of fizzled out last couple years, and many of its "regulars" emigrated to AzBilliards Discussion Forum. As well, other pool forums have come to the fore, each one attractive to its membership for what they may offer that AzBilliards may not. Some folks don't care for a moderated forum, and some pool peeps enjoy specific topics like one-pocket, as that's their game of choice.

I'm a member of several industry forums -- [or is it "fora"? -- and I've never seen the mean-spirited posts on those industry forums that I see on pool forums, though I have gotten into a heated debate about commas with a couple members of my industry forum. My nickname is "Dances With Commas" because of my love for proper punctuation, especially commas.

I just don't understand why some people on this forum seem to enjoy causing hurt and anger. Why? I guess that's one thing I will never understand about AzBilliards. When it gets to be too much, making me sad or angry, I just take a hiatus. Last hiatus was six months, and my income quadrupled. :grin-square:

Watchez, you will *never* make the first page. The rep count number ends "2147483647 point(s) total," and then the names will be in alphabetical order. You will never get ahead of somebody whose name is alphabetically higher than yours. You're unfortunately a "W" name. :grin-square:

I'll leave you some rep, though, so that you can beat the other "W" names.
