"Who Do You Like?": My Breakdown of Mika vs Shane

My heart says Shane but my pea brain says Mika. For 3 primary reasons:

1) home court
2) easier travel schedule prior to
3) the game off the table. If either can get under the other's skin, I think it could be Mika. He can be ... shall I say ... a bit pissy at times and that can throw an opponent. I give Mika the checkmark in the "unintentional shark" category. He's also more likely to be a poor sport and sabotage his game, but on this brightly lit stage, I think he'll be in lock down mode. He's a wiser, more mature player now. JMO.

What an awesome lead in to the Open!

I think it's a toss up...No disrespect KK9L :) but

#1. In a race to 100 a player of Shane’s capabilities can adjust quickly to a table or conditions.

#2. The time difference between Nicaragua and NYC is only 1 hour. Flying from Managua is short 5 or so hour flight it’s like flying between Las Vegas to NYC. Jet lag should not be an issue.

#3. Yes emotions at the table can sometimes rattle an opponent. I agree Mika can be, but no more or less than many people, a little demonstrative at the table and sidelines. He has also gotten better about it too. Shane has an advantage against this type of behavior which he’s used for years…he turns his hearing aid off. I also think regardless of that fact Shane is tough if almost impossible to rattle in general. I’ve seen him laugh that off several times.

This is a tough call. Tap tap tap to Justin for one of the best written starts to any thread I’ve read in months

When he played Frost (in his former home town of Des Moines IA) he wasn't phased by ANYTHING, and there was (uh-hem) some things that I woulda found a bit distracting (trying to put it as nicely as possible). But Shane just went out into the poolroom after the certain number of games was up for the day, and matched up some more. lol

As far as Justin's observation of home field being a bit "demanding" on Mika....I completely get that, and think that certainly could be a factor (and not an advantage like most think it will be). Good call JCIN!!

As mush as Im looking forward to this match-up like everyone else Im also wondering what the over/under is on this freak of a match makng it to video......

Justin and crew,

Once again, thanks for all that you guys do....at this point in TAR's existence if THIS match doesn't bring out at least 500 viewers I may relinquish myself from pool forever.......one of the best possible matches ever and people wont come through and buy this thing?????? GEEEEEZZZZZ:frown::mad:

I don't know if I could comeback on this forum and face 100's of nits who just let the greatest match in present time go unwatched over $25 bucks........Alas, TAR is an inspiration to this "sport"........I only hope there are many more to come...........thanks again

See you guys front and center on PPV!!!!!!

Great post. My choice is Shane simply because of the experience with TAR.
One thing you did not mention, or I might have missed, is that Shane also has gambling experience in the Philippines, so Mika does not have an edge on him in that regard, IMO.

I think Shane will prevail. Mika enjoys the spotlight and is mentally tough as you say...but for tournament matches. I think Shane can "out-grind" him.

I look for Shane to win by at least ten games. This format is not Mika's forte, and I think that is a major factor.

By all counts this is the most exciting TAR match to date, at least for me.

no thats the best rapper.

YO GOTTI

He looks like a drug dealer to me, and probably was at one point in his life. Just another show-off with gold chains, diamond jewelry and fancy cars. Pretty disgusting in this era of unemployment, foreclosures and so much despair. Wonder what he has done for his fellow man, if anything. I'm guessing he is obsessed with indulging himself, going by this photo.

How about a small wager - I'll take Shane for $200 :)

(leaving for pool now - be back tomorrow morning)

Just about everybody likes Shane in this spot, except me. I like Shane to, but I don't think he will win this match. So I'm willing to put a little money where my mouth is. I will take the first five bettors for a $100 each, IF you are on the good action list. If not, you have to post with me first. I've got Mika, you've got the other guy.
