bud green said:Holy sh!t this thread became an unnecessary mess. Kind of hilarious actually.
Keith is one of my favorites but if they played TODAY, I'd have to pick Chris. I actually think it was an interesting thread. One of the greatest ever out of his prime versus a dead solid money player who isn't considered top tier. What in the hell is the big deal about asking this question? Ironically, it sounds a bit like the Color of Money, doesn't it?
People ask if Buddy Hall can still win at bar box pool, one pocket,etc... all the time and it doesn't turn into this kind of fiasco. Varner, Rempe, Lebron all played well after 50 so pool fans, the ones who actually support the game, will always conjecture about possible match-ups. Thats why clowns like me who can't run 8 packs still pay to watch.
99% of the people here think Keith is a legend, one of the greatest ever, and would love to see him come back and kick ass. That said, I do think that Keith and Jam are a little sensitive to people judgeing his game.
I refuse to believe the guys from TAR are anything but class acts and true fans after all they've done for pool in the last few years.

If I was to bash people that I know I could bash that everybody else talks about on these forums, it just wouldn't be fair to them. And that's sort of the way I look at it. I don't really think it's fair to me. Every time I come on these piece-of-shit forums, I got to always watch my back about somebody trying to belittle me. It gets to be a little sickening.
LittleMonster said:It goes without saying that Keith, you are one of the greats this game has seen. Your style of play made watching you exciting. But your personality made watching you FUN! You brought something to the table every time. Whether it was a good day (bark and a POWERFUL bite) or a bad day (more bark than bite). And hey! We all have 'em. Though I suspect your 'bad days' are still light years better than most of us here. Hehe.
That being said, I think its a real shame what has happened here. I read each of these threads and watched as they turned ugly. And I say its a shame because, well... you seem to be an innocent bystander here. Someone else brings your name into play, and a debate began that spiraled out of control. Opinions were shared and shared again. Then defended. Then argued. And the result is, you wind up getting dogged. And to be honest, it really isn't fair. As I said, you are kind of an innocent bystander here.
It DOES seem like you get trashed a lot. But to be honest and to be fair, I think a lot of these back-and-forths are created by JAM. It seems like every time a debate pops up about who is the best, JAM chimes in defends her buddy/man... you. And that is admirable. Loyalty is a tough quality to find in many people. Still, when JAM makes her claims that you are the greatest of all time; that you are the best the game has seen; etc., etc., she is stating an OPINION. But unfortunately, she states her opinion like it were fact. When this happens, it is not uncommon for people to disagree or to express opinions of their own. Its human nature. You know the old expression:
"Opinions are like _____: everyone's got 'em!" (and I'm sure you know the rest) lol.
But when someone states the same opinion over and over, and in such an argumentative and intigatory manner, that person is often going to be met with resistence. And like all debates go, disagreements only stay civil for a short period of time.
The result? JAM and whomever the debate may be with often lose their patience with one another. Soon, the 'dogs' that they are backing get their names slung through the mud in an effort to try and support their OWN points. And its a shame when that happens because, well frankly, the two people being talked about back and forth never even entered their own names into the debate. Someone else started it all. Someone else let it get out of control. And when this happens, the person who is the SUBJECT of said finds their being dragged through the mud and THEY become innocent victims in this while thing.
I understand where you are coming from. And I sympathize with you. Its not very fair that you have to come in here and defend yourself in an argument that you had NO role in creating. But unfortunately, the problem isn't simply the posters here. Its that the very person who tries so hard to defend you (JAM) often winds up creating these debates.
Again, I love your game. I love your personality. You have made pool fun and exciting to watch for so many. I'm sorry that things turned ugly. And I hope this type of argument doesn't rear its head again (though I suspect it will - its the nature of opinion-sharing). I wish you the best and hope to see you post more here under better, happier circumstances.
Aiden
Also, I hope you don't take this as disrespect on any level. Just food for thought.
Why is it a stupid thread? Because in this case, the simple 'who can beat who' question was a veiled jab. Completely evident by the timing of its origin, but not by its actual content.beav99_4life said:Am I missing something here, why is this a stupid thread? Its a simple question to get everyones opinion about a match up between two players. .. I should have known, Corvette seems to attract those people and bring the worst out in them, lol.
what does chihuahua meanKeith McCready said:You know, Corvette, I've seen a lot of these posts on these forums, a lot of nitpicking. As far as Chris Batrum goes, everybody knows that I haven't been playing much pool, but if I was playing any pool at all, I would play Chris Batrum some 9-ball, 10-ball, banks, 1-pocket. There ain't much left, but considering I haven't been playing much, I'm not really in the mood to be playing any pool.
Every time I come on this forum, I got to keep defending myself. Nobody's got nothing good to say about anybody. Everybody likes to bash everybody else. And you don't want to talk about the past because you know what the end result would be, or maybe you don't? But I sure do. Chris Bartrum wouldn't even be in the same ball park. Guys like him got the 7-ball every day, every night, every hour.
So you can take that for what it's worth, and last time I played Chris Bartrum, it was me and Ronnie Wiseman and against him and some player in one-pocket. They got 8 to 7, and they got stuck up. Isn't that amazing? Two players past their prime, me and Ronnie, giving two prime players a spot.
And I will think about coming out of my retirement to play Chris Batrum. I'll see how many of my people like it, but I ain't coming out for no small money. If I play, I will play him 9-ball, 10-ball, banks, and one-pocket, a nice long set of each for maybe 10,000 or 20,000 apiece. Then we'll see who gets the last word in because I don't think Chris Bartrum can play a lick. He's a nice guy and everything, but he's got a little Chihuahua in his ass. I know it, and so does everybody else.
It's not my style to have to come on a forum and try to put somebody down, but as for Chris, I thought Chris had a little more class than that, but apparently not. So now I will speak my mind.

It is a fricking travesty, the way such a great place can smell like such rot.

My moneys on Keith if he practices up and this happens. I don't think Chris could get the image of the dog out of his head for the whole match.
This would be a Phenomenal TAR match to headline the BCA in Vegas this year if both players were into that kind of time frame. The stands would be filled.
