Who would like to see Diamond produce a Pro pocket, 5x10 ProAm?

Since everyone seems to be talking about this right now, I'm just curious as to who and how many would like to see Diamond produce a 5x10 ProAm? As soon as I get to the factory, I'm finishing up the 9ft ProAm straight rail billiards table...so, maybe a 5x10 could be the next table I work on with Diamond;)

Glen:

To drown-out (push aside? dissolve?) these converted small-size snooker tables (i.e. the 10-footers, or "six-leggers" as they're sometimes called, since 12-footers have eight legs), I'd love to see a REAL pool table created in 10-foot dimensions. I'm sure you remember the old Brunswicks with the ashtrays molded into the "catcher's mitt" pocket castings, and how they were built with the really thick slate (1.5" if my memory serves?). Would love to see a 10-footer of that caliber come out of the Diamond factory! Man-oh-man, imagine the challenge matches on that! And no "hey, that's a gaff table" accusations!

Anyway, put me down for a solid "hey now, when were you going to ask?" vote!

5x10

I used to love to play on the few 5x10s that were still around.
Realistically, for pool rooms to have them, they would have to charge
maybe 50% more per hour because they wouldn't be able to fit as many in the room and for home use , only upper middle class type homes usually have a room big enough for a 4.5 x 9 . Also how much extra do they weigh and how much more space would you need to run a tournament with them?
I doubt many people would want a 10 footer unless there were tournaments played on them. I could be very wrong though.
I am curious what number of them would have to be sold for it to be profitable to Diamond to start making them?
2 thousand ?

A quality five by ten is on my wish list, no space for it until my new shop is built in a few years though. I don't care if it is a five by ten pool or snooker table, I like them both. Realistically, for the reasons book collector points out I don't think that they are financially viable to build or own in a commercial setting. Nothing would make me happier than to be proven wrong though!

You will find a very high percentage would want Diamond to build 5x10's but a very, very low percentage that would buy them. I still would love to see the top pros play on them for action/chalenge matches. Johnnyt

Build it and they will come. I for one would love to see this happen. Still waiting for the day to come when a pro am 9' arrives on Oahu. An even better day would be when a 10'r makes it's way out here.

Again Mahalo for all your efforts.

P.S. RCK I played at Sal's about a month ago and for the first hour I shot like crap, but when I shot at shooters a little over a year ago, I couldn't miss on a very similar 9' pro am. Why is that?

5x10's.........

Hey Glen....

A few years ago, I almost picked up an old ''Brunswick'' 5x10 but it was in Detroit and the guy didn't want to mess with shipping it to N.Y......

Yeah,,, I would love to see the 5x10's come back,,especially for tourney play,,,,,,,,by the way, I always admired your work,,,,,,Alan......

Glen, I would LOVE it!!! I actually had a lengthy conversation about this, with Paul Smith, at the Diamond booth at the SBE.

I think it would be great.

Therein lies the rub...

After last weekend I would say Shane.

I was thinking this same thing watching TAR 20. My next house I'm selling my niner and convincing Greg to build a Diamond 10. That would be a bad ass table.

Though I personally would probably keep away, I wouldn't mind seeing a few get made and sold. I'm just scared of the price tag.

5x10

How hard would it be for Diamond to set up the factory for a production run of a table that size.

My pool hall has a old Monarch that is 5x10. (at least I think it is a Monarch) It is the resident table the oldtimers play a golf game on.

Is there really a market for this?
The Earl/Shane match was very entertaining. Watching these guys play on a table that size was a major factor. I think that event was eye opening and the Pool entertainment industry should be paying attention!

Commercially and within Match/competition play there could be a market.

I can see a poolhall putting 1 token 5x10' in their room, but not the whole room filled with 5x10's. It could be just like the rooms with the occassional snooker and/or billiard table.

Would your second question be....

Who would want to work on or move them? As a table mechanic, what would you think of working on one if they made it?

I think that it would be great if they did... and if they did, I am assuming that a few prominent pool halls around the US would buy one.

That way, challenge matches like Earl/Shane could be played on a 5x10 without a major effort to modify a table... and we, the pool-loving portion of the population, could enjoy more streamed matches between pros on very challenging tables.
