Why the forum is what it is

What time is it?

This forum has reached it's height as an all time low in recent weeks due to it's reflection of pool today. It's as simple as that.

The DCC is a perfect example. Lots of hoopla there, with ridiculious woofing from people that don't even know what they are saying and trying to act as disrespectful as possible just to draw attention to themselves. The last time I went I thought to myself, why am I even watching this. Shannon woofing is funny and masterful. Some kid trying to act like he is on the same level is not. The DCC is either a bunch of kids making noise over nothing or a player of yester year trying to re capture the attention he once had. Both groups fail miserably at it but they keep on with it cause a small group continues to give them the attention they crave.

I haven't been to the DCC in a few years because of it. I still continue to go to Vega$ each summer for pool but don't hang out much. I tried to hang out with some old friends last year one night. Sat down, in a corner away from most of the crowd so I didn't have to hear all the stupid talk that mostly occurs. But within 5 minutes, some 'player' tried to talk stupid to me as I am sure he does the rest of the world. He tried to get his 15 seconds of fame before I had enough of it. I am sure that Mikey remembers. Anyways, that is why pool and this forum is what it is.

The forum is the same way. People starting threads just because they think they are funny or because they want to be heard. Polls about nothing. People complaining because they got red rep. Guess what -- no one can see the red rep but you, so who cares?

You can't dump in a pool forum but you can fire an air barrel. That seems to be the norm as well. People make excuses for their friends here that air barrel just like they make excuses for their friends that dump. Air barrels for action or air barrels for giveaways for design your own cue.

Pool has put up on a pedestal in recent years people that shouldn't be there. That is all I am going to say about that. The same happens here in this forum. People just let it continue and then it spreads like a forest fire.

Finally - I only wish AZMike was more involved here. I am sure that he does a lot with his site etc., I am just hoping he was more visible in the forums. He has a true understanding about people. This would be a much better place.

It is different

Times are not the same, I really think we did the younger generation wrong.

when I was young either you were in school or working. paper routes, washing cars cutting lawns or working on the farms.

If I acted like some of these kids I wouldnt be alive.

Im over the hill anyway so I can be picky on who I shoot .
There is always someone on the side lines trying to act like they know everything.
pretty soon we will have to put the player in tinted glass boxes so they cant hear or see the disrespectful people.

Either way, better enjoy it while its here.

The 21st is not far off. Then, we will be dodging fire balls from the sky and Zombies on the ground.

See what I did here. I combined the movie and a TV show together.

Pretty neat eh?

Thats exactly why I haven't gone there for so long... I quit going because it was getting to be too much of a tourists spot for me. But just from the BS (exact plots you noted above) I've seen on streams, I figure why fade it? I need to go for a couple of days sometime to do some AZB meet and greets and see some degenerates from my past though..... LOL

Good Lord were all becoming a bunch of old fogies! I agree with all the sentiments above which most know anyway. Mike made me laugh with the newspaper delivery comment. I had one of the biggest in Gloucester, Mass when I was a kid in the 60's. Had to hand deliver, into the door, 110 papers 6days a week and earned about $22.00 a week. Good money for a 12 year old in 1964 plus all the snow shoveling, grass cutting and other odd jobs that went along with it. I worked my ass off and earned every penny. Not to stray to far off topic it's a completely different world for the younger generation. For some our country has been at war and in decline their entire lives. Sometimes I think that has an unseen impact on the behavioral issues we "older" AZ members comment about. But I do wish things would get better for us all and believe the economic/social decline has a lot do with everyones lives both personal and professional. God Bless us All!

I once delivered papers in a video game. I think they called it "Paperboy."

In my youth I did plenty of shoveling driveways. And if I remember correctly, you were most likely to receive $10 for the average driveway. The lowest you would receive is $5. And in some cases you might even receive $20. And this was in a middle class neighborhood during the early 1990's.

Those prices seem high. I imagine the child today would have a difficult time getting $10 for one driveway, but I've been out of the market too long to know.

I never did much lawn mowing, and just a little leaf raking. It seems like it snowed much more back then.

Man thy cue and stand thy table lads...hoist thou cueball up into to the air with thine hand and stand against nitdom. Chant ka-lee-may as you rear back and stroke forward with lightnings swiftness with thine hand and snatch nitty souls from such crude matter!

Saw - we should pick a year and then do it right. Private room. No fools allowed. I'll bring the bouncer.

This shall pass, as it always does.

WE were all young once, some of us not that long ago, (lol)
so instead of everyone starting a thread about the sky falling,
why don't we all just let in simmer down and we get back to being
a calm interesting site.

AZ always has a thread that you will enjoy.

So everyone just breathe in hold it and slowly let it go, we will all
be fine.
lots of hugs

I always put this forum in the perspective of being ''in the room'' a large pool room at a tournament with usually 125-180 people during most times. Not many will ever become lifelong friends, but there's always a nugget somewhere in life. I respect a pool rooms function and dysfunction as it helps me interact much better in other aspects of my life....

Remember....allot of people in the pool room are there because others don't want them in their space....ANYMORE :banghead: They don't know where to go, so they come here.

I like this post. I feel much the same way. Pool will never be a perfect world. Even if there was more money in it for pros there would still be a reason for some to complain. That's human nature. To me AZ is like a big poolroom with all kinds of characters in it, some I like and respect and some not so much. No big deal, I've been handling that crowd all my life. I've got four poolrooms under my belt and I've met every kind of person, from the total crazies to the most wonderful folks ever. I'm willing to take the good with the bad.

Well, I hear what your saying. But I agree with others that AZB can and is pretty cool despite it all. Through AZB, I've met and played with folks all over the country including John Brumback (who is a really good guy, btw). I've had numerous transactions, all of which went smoothly (knock on wood). I just take everything else with a grain of salt.

As for the DCC, to me it's still a great tournament and I really enjoy going each year. And it's just around the corner - WOOT WOOT!

I was 12 in 1964 as well.
Made about 8-bucks a day caddying at a country club in the Denver area, which was a lot of money to a 12-year old in 1964.
I remember walking in to the Dolly Madison after work, with a fistful of one's  to get wasted on Dr. Pepper...15-cents a bottle

$8.00 a day is way more than I'm making now.
My goal is to sell a cue a week for 100-weeks until I qualify for SS, I've got 80 to go, so I really need AZ Billiards.
Like the OP said, "the forum is what it is", but I can assure you it is far better and less boring than other forums, including the big gun forums.

To my AZ friends that I promised to put in my will, don't worry, I'll still have about 50-cues available when I croak.

It's not just pool it's a new generation of people raised without morals.
This is a different day and age of very little respect and you add the fact they can hide behind a keyboard and not face serious consequence. People may say that JAM provoked Juice or whatever, but where I'm from you don't speak to a woman that way. Can your mom provoke you to call her that....I doubt it. That's like TeddyDog there is no doubt in my mind if the right person recognizes him at the poolroom he will get punched in the face and well deserved. People get away with too much on the Internet . It may be a great thing but it has ruined the morality in this country IMO
Its the day and age not just AZ or the poolroom

I think the pool gamblers have a much different take on both the game/venues and AZBilliards as do the people that do not gamble.

That is all I am going to say on the subject.
