Wishing Happy Birthday to Jay Helfert

Sure do wish there were more Jay Helferts in the pool world. You are not only an asset to this forum, but you are a bright light in the pool world. Thanks for all that you do. Whether it is promoting tournaments or sharing your insights, they always seem to be a breath of fresh air and a ray of sunshine.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of my favorite AzBilliards posters! :)

Happy Birthday Jay. You always have the best stories and insight. Thanks. Oh just one question. Do you have a story on how your birthday started?

YEAH! What she said. You're a credit to the game to the forum and to humanity Jay.

Happy birthday. I'm very much looking forward to your book! Thanks for providing so much here.

As much as I dislike his historical posts and war stories.

I'd still wish the guy happy birthday.

Way to go buddy keep taking those vitamins.

Never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I feel as though I know, like and respect you.

Happy Birthday and Life.

THANK YOU ALL!! All the well wishes and witticisms here are truly a gift for me. I feel loved!

I had a great day, worked and wrote a little in the AM, went to the post office, and then to my grandson's basketball camp led by Dave Miller, former Clippers assistant coach, now with the Hornets I think. He's a great guy. So when he finds out it's my birthday, he calls me out on the court with 100 kids sitting in a huge circle, and his assistant coaches all out there. He flips me the ball and says he has a proposition for me (this guy is quite the character).

He asks me if I think I can make a free throw. Sure I say. He says that if I make the first one I try, Dylan gets a free camp ($350). Great I say. But if I miss he says, I have to bring 100 donuts to camp tomorrow. Okay why not, I don't mind. The kids start screaming and every one is laughing and joking, but I take dead aim. I take my time, dribble the ball a little and focus on the basket. I CAN make a free throw. I've made a million in my life. The basket looks far and high. I make up my mind not to leave it short.

When I'm ready, I make a nice soft pitch and....SWISH, nothing but net, so help me God. Everyone goes crazy, and I've got a smile ten feet wide. Dylan runs up and gives me a big hug. Coach Miller gives me a big smile and says (I swear to God) "You hustled me". Now, is that funny. He flips me an authentic Clippers Jersey as a bonus. I'm wearing it now. It feels cool. I'm going to bring the donuts tomorrow anyway.

So that was the highlight of my day. Dylan told everybody about it all day long. We had a nice family get together at my Mom's place in the Marina and we all pigged out. I love celebrating my 39th birthday. I'm getting kind of good at it by now.

I love AZ!

Happy 39th birthday Jay! Where would you rank this 39th birthday compared to the 20 others :P Glad you had a great day. It's always nice to come in clutch with people watching. But having your grandson win a free basketball camp trip while watching you make the basket, wow. That's sweet.

Playing Pool helps your concentration and focus. And anything else you do in life! (Like play Poker).

I always used to say "Nothing I've ever had to do in life, is harder than having to make the 9-Ball off the end rail for all the cash!" It was good training for me.

Happy birthday Jay! Very cool about that free throw and that bet!! It sounds as if he knew you were a gambling man :p And those kids still got the doughnuts to boot :p Very nice touch.
