I think that is some good advice from LAMas. Here is one alternative I have seen. A relative of mine is a lesbian. For the most part she looks like (and is) an athlete. She is a mountain climber, scuba diver and does many other things. Most men see here as “very” athletic. I think that most women her age are more than aware of her sexual orientation. Something about the way she makes eye contact with potentially attractive partners and her physical presence. Guys would say she walks like a man but there is more to it than that.
She has few if any problems in our large extended family as those who choose not to know about her preferences can simply ignore them. One of her aunts noted that, “ she does wear and ear ring you know.” And that put that discussion to rest.
She is not shy about her sexuality but avoids many of the problems with her “athletic” ways.
At one time I was working with a highly intelligent lesbian teenager and was trying to persuade her to “give boys a try.” She stopped me cold when she said, “I’ll try boys if you will try them too.” Shut me up on the spot.
