SNL does neg skit on women's pool.

Take a joke for what it is.In know way could this hurt the wpba.If if you do complain understand the t.v. alway's gets the last word.

OK...I'm speaking in a non-official capacity...simply as a WPBA player. I didn't find it funny...but there are so many SNL skits that I don't find funny. But I didn't find it offensive. It was just SNL being silly and trying to be funny. I don't think mainstream America is going to watch that skit and think "Wow...all female pool players must be manly looking and obviously can't actually play pool".

And for all you Mitch-haters...he is married to a two-time World Champion...and he has probably watched more women's pool than 99% of you. He knows the rules, he knows the players, and he knows the game. He does his job just fine as far as I am concerned. But more importantly...he is a wonderful person...and he doesn't deserve some of the mean things said about him. You don't have to like his commentating...but you could just say it like that instead of trashing him.

This is gonna sound odd but obv someone is watching pool alot to even think to make a skit about pool. Maybe its kinda good and draw some attention to the sport

Its too bad John Lehman wasnt in the skit. John is an actor and Ive seen him on SNL before. He's also a pool player, tournament director, and runs the Amsterdam league and Tri-state Tour.

Nice post Melissa, nice to hear someone on tour give their opinion.

I thought it was pretty funny, myself. I also think it is actually good for the sport just to get some mainstream recognition. It is a spoof it is not supposed to be taken seriously.

that is how I felt when I watched it last night.I also thought that it was a satire on a commentator who without any knowledge of the game became the commentator because of his connections with ESPN.

That was funny!!!

Yes it was sir.

IMHO we should be grateful that a program with such a wide reach chose our sport to poke fun at.

SNL has changed a ton, some comedy better than others over the years. But one thing has remained the same throughout...they parody things that the public can "relate to"...

If womens pool, hell pool in general, has propelled itself to the point that SNL is going to parody it....we're on our way boys and girls. I think this was more of a jab at the sponser/commentator aspect...but who cares...we're out there more now.

Thick skin and broad shoulders. No publicity is bad publicity.

Again...just my opinion.

As a pool player I found the sketch to be completely offensive. Imagine the gall of them to portray a professional pool tournament and they didn't use a Gold Crown or Diamond.

I'm writing a letter to the FCC.

I don't think they're gonna set pool back 20

setting pool back 20 years would be a good thing... setting it back 30 years would be even better..

being made fun of on SNL shows that you ARE relevant to the culture..

I don't understand all these "SAVE POOL" , or "this is KILLING pool" threads. SNL isn't going to kill pool..

we don't need a beer commercial deal for SVB to make pool more popular

we don't need a good movie to make pool more popular...

all this stuff put's the cart before the horse...

Miz got the Miller Lite deal BECAUSE he was famous not the other way around..

the Hustler was a great movie that was about pool BECAUSE pool was popular at the time... not the other way around..

get a consistent mens tour that are in the same cities on the same dates every year...

not a couple championships.. hell every pro tournament is some sort of "championship"

I mean Pool SEASON with a tournament in every major market every year...

and have an actual championship and only let in the players who do well at the regular events.. I'd love to see the top 10 points leaders play a round robin across all disciplines.. and have a champion who has truly earned it.. instead of the hot stick at one tournament..

I know I'm dreaming the Men can't get out of their own way long enough to EVER accomplish anything like that..

rant over...

i also thought it was snl being snl. one of the funniest skits ever on snl was dan aykroyd being julia child and slicing his finger off. julia child herself even thought it was funny. take it for what it is...just comedy. atleast they didn't have the audience clapping after every single shot!

I was amused, but I can certainly see how it can be deemed offensive. The problem is that no good can come out of making a big deal out of this kind of thing. If by small chance it makes any kind of headlines the public will see the complainants as being unable to take a joke. I just don't think that people will be very sympathetic, SNL is expected to make fun of everyone and everything. I'm afraid in such an instance it could do more harm to the image of the WPBA than the skit that people probably didn't take seriously.

Does anyone from the UK remember Interesting Davis? Best thing that ever happened to Steve's image.

Men's Professional Pool

I think we should all write Saturday Night Live and complain that Men's Professional Pool should get equal time.

I didn't think it was hilarious but it did have some funny lines. Maybe it was SNLs way of hinting to us that we should get Tampax or another feminine product to sponsor us. After all, it is a womens tour, why not corner the market of necessity? Maybe something good will come out of it. At least it wasn't a crack on a tournament from present day. We have come quite a ways since 1991 so it wasn't a total put down in my opinion.
