I'm not arguing your point, just seeing things from a different perspective.
The $2K doesn't make you better, but factor in the experience. She'll experience the feeling & grind of not losing her own money. She'll experience the pressure of every shot, no matter how seemingly insignificant. If she's never played under pressure like this before, with this much to lose, then in my opinion she's certainly stepping up to the next level. She may not play on another level of skill, but she'll certainly be playing on a higher level of pressure.
Betting $2G's on a match when you aren't a world class player, don't have a 6 figure income, and have never bet nearly that much in your life, can be very scary & intimidating. Doing it for the first time certainly is stepping up a level. In all the matches & games & money I have lost, 90% were due to weak nerves & pressure, not my skill level. I would imagine that's the case with most players.
When I was single & had a certain predictable, often disposable income, i'd bet $500-$1000 if I thought I had a good chance. I lost a lot of money, I won a lot of money, prolly even in the end. I played better then than I ever did. Once responsibilities came, like caring for a wife & children, making that mortgage payment every month, etc, my betting seized. Now if I play for anything over $100 I get the jitters & my game shows it. I still have the playing skills. I know more about the game than ever before. I have tons of experience to guide me. But I crumble in the big games because i'm not at that level anymore. My nerves are not conditioned for it anymore. I'd have to step up & start playing that level again if I ever wanted to be competitive like that again. That's what i'm saying when I say she'd be stepping up to the next level. It has nothing to do with her skill. It's all about experience & nerve conditioning.
