Where has Santos Sambajon been lately?

Bob Ogburn is probably around Hollywood, FL.

Quit knocking my action. I only get a game about once a year as it is!
I played some Banks last week with Hawaiian Jimmy at Hard Times. I had a meeting there and Jimmy and I got in a few games. He's a hardcore hustler but we broke even. I WILL play him again! I had to use a house cue since I didn't bring my cue along.
Jay, when I first started playing pool in 1992 an older guy named Rags walked into Hollywood Billiards and everyone made a fuss. He didn't play that day. What was his story? I'm assuming that he pasted away. He seemed like a nice guy. Any stories?

That was Robert "Rags" Woods, one of the all time great black players. He was on the Legends of Pool TV shows in the 80's, with Mosconi and Fats and the rest of them. Definitely one of the best players on the West Coast during the 50's, 60's and 70's. The only guy (other than Richie Florence who he ducked) Jimmy Marino couldn't beat when he was out here in the early 70's. Rags loved to play for money and could play all games.

Billy had a poolroom for long while. I heard Marco got deported. Paul is busy with his young family up in Canada. Santos has been out West the last couple of months, still playing pool naturally. I heard he moved his family from the Philippines to Chicago last year.

Azares

Sean (Tony) Azares was in Alaska when I left in 2004. He arrived up there early 90's. Worked down in the fishing industry etc.

Bill's poolroom in Rchmnd is still there but I believe he no longer has any involvement.

I played a little 3c with him not too long ago...about a year? He was living in DC at the time and I believe he isn't playing much pool.

Old Schooler's

What about Floyd Baxter, Jeff Carter, & Danny Medina, what they up to these days?

David Harcrow

I've been watching a lot of late 80's/early 90's accu-stat matches lately, and I've heard a lot of talk about Jeff Carter....There was one match where it was mentioned that Jeff beat Efren like 11-3. (not on the TV table)

What happened to that guy?

Lol, you just barely beat me to it...I've gotta learn to type faster.

HaHa, that is kinda weird, you at your computer, me at mine, miles & miles apart and having the same thoughts about the same poolplayer!:)

Jeff Carter and my brother Calvin used to run the roads together some.

Johnny Borba?

Jeff is back in Wisconsin and starting to play a little pool again (he was at DCC this year). He has had a good job ($$$) for years. Danny is still around Denver, but has had health and legal issues the last couple of years.

How does Religion stop people from playing? I don't get it.

Well, in his case (and this is 99% speculation), he mainly gambled, and truthfully, I don't know too many hard core religious players who gamble. I would imagine it isn't much fun to only play funsy pool after playing top players in high dollar matches. Not only that, if you don't play many tourneys, it is really hard to get any decent competition for a player of that caliber without gambling. Not knocking anyone's views or anything, just trying to throw out a possible explanation. In my (somewhat limited) experience, many hard core corn-agains tend to look down their nose at some aspects of their old lives, especially if sponsors/new peers tend to think little of those activities. This is only from my experience with two old friends who likely wouldn't have played pool under any circumstances after their lifestyle changes. Who knows?

For the people who are strong in their faith there is nothing but the lord, they break all ties with their old self and become a new person in Christ. For the people who are believers but are not yet able to commit themselves completely, the main concept to me is that you don't gamble because it is coveting someone elses money or belongings. Also if I am playing someone and they are playing better than me , if I start wishing their tip would fall of or anything of that nature I self impose a ban on my play for that day till I get my mind right.
