It does not explain what the ABP is. It shows why pro pool is so disorganized.
Pool now also needs a proofreader. Fonts, spacing.....
What is AZ Billiards relation to the ABP? AZ has put many ABP press releases on their main page. The ABP seems to be 3 or 4 pool players that collected $100 from 11 or 12 pros at a tournament 2 years ago and started a facebook page. And they want tournaments to be seeded. And they don't like the BCA...but the president of the BCA attends their tournaments. And they invented Bonus Ball. So to clarify what the ABP is all about they do an interview with Jerry Forsyth. In the interview two of the ABP's members state they are unhappy with the ABP.
Round and round we go.
Pool Leagues have cornered the business of pool. The league players are the actual people who would be fans of pool supporting a pro tour. But why should they be paying fans supporting pool players when they can "live the life of a pro pool player for a week in vegas." Without the homelessness and withdrawal symptoms. ZING!
You need money to help the pro's get a tour going, I'll get you money...
250,000 members paying $10 a week to play to the APA. That is $2.5 million a week in dues. 50 weeks a year is $125,000,000! Most people in the APA play more then one night so that is a low number. Also there are $25 yearly dues....another $6,250,000 a year generated. We're at $130 million+! Then there is the BCA, NAPL and countless other leagues.
Does every pro pool tournament in the US even pay out 5% of that number? $6,500,000? Are there even 5 tournaments in the US that pay out $200,000 in total purses each? Do all the tournaments in America pay that out. Is $6.5 million in entry fees collected by tournament directors in a year for the whole US?
The APA and all the other leagues need to get together and start a tour for the pro's. There should be one professional ranking system and have 12 tournaments a year. Make pool exciting again, bring luck back into pool. 9 ball breaks count. No more called shots. 20 second shot clocks. HIRE TOURNAMENT RACKERS!!! Just with the league membership watching they could get it on TV and generate ad revenue. The pro's could do PR in each state and be available to the leagues when they are not traveling to the monthly tours. Pool will become a job for all the pro's who do not work. If the APA put $250,000 into a 128 player field and made each player pay $1,000 entry fee there would be $378,000 to be given out each month. 65 to 128 get paid $500. 1 to 64 get paid the remaining $346,000. Or they could take $100K from this $346,000 each month and have the year end final event have a purse of $1,500,000 with only the top 64 people in the ranking qualified to play. The APA could do a final 64 bracket with all of its membership participating. Most correct bracket gets $100,000.
All that would cost the APA $3,000,000 in prizes and another $2,000,000 in organizing. That is not 5% of the money they collect yearly.
There is an idea. Do with it what you will.
I really believe pool is exactly where it should be. In the gutter. I am extreemly pleased to see the progress pool has made the last 100 years.
I am also becoming quite a fan of Charlie Williams. No one has anything nice to say about him on this site so he must be a great person.
