The Hustlers, Season 1, Episode 7

You have got to be one the stupidest human beings alive....it has been said countless times....the matchs you see are real...the up close shots (like the one you saw on the 8 ball) were recreated at another time to capture better camera angles.

Better camera angles bahahaha. Your old lady couldn't run out of a burning building. You're the stupid one. Have fun playing make believe.

We've had cast members, a production crew member, and rail birds who are on set cone on AZ and state unequivocally that the matches are real. No results are planned or written.

Yet, some here claim you are clueless if you believe it's real because they can analyze an edited match using the pause button on their remote from their living room.

So the next level of verification I brought to the table is a quote from an Emmy award winning producer in a major billiard publication going on record that it's all real.

That's what makes the show special. Really good players going at each other. And you say "real or staged, who cares". That does a disservice to the players and production team who go all out in their play and the display of that play within the series.

The naysayers here have yet to come up with any proof, or on the record statements. It's all conjecture and they rank down there with those who think the USA staged the landing on the moon in a Hollywood backlot. All theory, no proof.

Dude ball pop up and dissappear like an episode of Ghost Hustlers. Talk all you want. There's staged shots every episode. Keep trying to drown the truth out.

Same thing happened to Shane, running out to win his Challenge of Champions match with Darren Appleton. Shane missed the case 8 (for perfect shape on the 9) to win the match...shot it right into to the corner of the side pocket cushion. Deshaine did it the exact same thing in any earlier episode. It happens to everyone...amateurs and pros.

. Gary was put in his chair and watched it slip away only to totally choke on that eight ball. Unreal outcomes that I didn't expect..

brentinps...I don't know if you've seen much gambling in the "real" pool world, but "posturing", "chest-beating" and "lambasting" are historical and lifelong parts of the gambling persona...especially around pool. While I agree with you that it perpetuates an unsavory perception of the sport, you will never eliminate that aspect...and many hard-core poolplayers are particularly attracted to that aspect.

I agree w TimKrazyMon, while I have watched this show it fails to demonstrate much etiquette or class, aside from Jennifer B. and Mike D, who are both strong players, always focused and in control on and off the tables.

Granted the chest-beating, conceit, and lambasting, makes for entertainment for some, I find it a poor representation of the game, and it is getting old already.

Every episode is like watching Gorillas in the Mist with all the posturing, territorial rants and vocalizations.

There must be a better way to show the life of hustlers and hustling.. and perhaps the key is getting out of NY, and going on the road with gamblers hitting bars across america, winning, and heading out of town before they get hurt, or there are gunshots.

Tempers can flair pretty easily when playing for money. Just last week in a local bar I saw three people get into it over a game of pool. One wasn't even playing. They were all bloody by the time it was over. Oh, they were playing for a beer...

Some people (on this board) are fortunate they lead a nice, comfy, sheltered life. I know a guy (aquaitance enough such that he cried over my shoulder about it) who killed a man over a game of pool. And one of my long time barpool playing contemporaries growing up in the game lost an eye over a pool game.

Freddie <~~~ and people think this Hustlers' *****ing is over the top?

That's only if you choose to believe everything you see there is real to begin with ,,

What can't happen is Duddy s shape from the 8 to the 9 for her 4th game. She's nearly straight in on 8 and somehow got straight in on 9 at other end of the table. The angle she had and the speed she hit it wouldn't go half as far as the cueball ended up. It's like pro wrestling.

You do realize the camera went to slow motion right after the cue ball hit the 8-ball? That's why the cue ball didn't look like it had the speed. She hit it with plenty of speed.

You can't blame anyone for questioning the editing there's been plenty of interviews with people on other shows who tell how the cut and paste film to make things look real
Like the break shot the other night going straight to the side pocket it was cut , then we here a ball moving at a pretty good clip rolling had plenty of spin so it stopped
Someone's going to have to show me that one

'Shell's Wonderful World of Golf' that really boosted golf with Jack Nicklaus

What pool needs is a George S. May ,, who was he ? He was the guy who loved golf so much he paid ABC brodcasters to televise golf tournaments and turned golf into a spectators sport ,,

love and with money is the teacher

Wasn't it 'Shell's Wonderful World of Golf' that really boosted golf with Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Arnold Palmer leading the way?

As far as people saying how "the image of pool is tarnished" or " why do they always show pool in a negative way" or "it's not just about the gambling" should google why is pocket billiards called pool? This is all my opinion, but pool has always been a gambling game. It has always been played by people that like to drink, smoke, swear and bet.

Yeah , I saw that shot and replayed it to make sure.

You don't think the two grand Gary would've won in the match against Jenn would've gone to pay his rent? The guy installs dry wall for his day job. That anger was as real as it can get.

You do know they get to keep the money right?

They each put up a thousand. He would have won, gained, whatever A THOUSAND.

The production stakes them a thousand each, and they play with that money. (IRS forms included)
So from a production stand point, Jenn walked away with 2 grand.Gary zero.

The myth is that they are playing with monopoly money and that just isn't the case. There is real money being earned in these matches, hence the tension and high intensity action.

So does Gary have to pay taxes on his thousand he lost? Or was it never his to lose...only to gain? Didn't know you were also a tax advisor. Good to know.

Somewhat ironically, the two biggest haters of the show in this thread, have posted in this thread more than everyone else. ( except Cardigan)

I wonder why that is?

Seems like if you hated something so much, it wouldn't really be worth your time to even mention it.

Go figure.
