Main Street Billiards (Mesa, AZ) getting their house tables "Diamond-ized" by Zak

I believe it was at 21st Avenue and Indian School back in the day. Gotta love the first sign you see on the door... NO COLORS!

We need Survivor to host a pool reality show

Forget Survivor, make it like Top Chef or Top Shot. Form the teams, and each week they have to compete in a new challenge. Bottom two would have to go head to head in elimination. They would all have to be schooled in every type of billiard format, and even know trick shots, banks, masse's...

Stolen Cues Alert - reward for return

Unfortunately, I am reminded of the words of Solomon here... ALL MEN are subject to time and chance.

What would be your hobby if not for pool?

Hobbies in general are the difference I believe between those who enjoy life, and those who die within a year of quitting their jobs/careers. My Dad was this way... never took time to have a hobby while in his working life, and kept saying when he retired he would pick up 'something'. So he...

    Pool Hall, Stolen Balls

A little hole in the wall bar with 2 pool tables we used to do weekly tourneys on would have their Aramith cue balls 'disappear' and be replaced with 'rocks'. We suspected a krap-hole bar across the street was sending over patrons to swap them out every once in a while.

How do you think pool can be saved across the USA?

I think a few people had the right idea when they said there was a lock of organization and cohesion. Here in Phoenix, there are 5-7 different pool leagues alone. APA, AHSPL, TAP, UPA, Paradise Pool League, Arizona Pool League to name the most popular, and each run different...

Pool Professionals and Road Players and their winnings...

From the movie margin call: "Did you make $2.5 million last year?" "yea, sure" "How did you spend it?" "Easy" "Let's see... half went right away to the taxman, so now I have 1.25"... "Then $300,000 for my mortgage, $150K I sent to my parents to help keep them going... whats that left?"...

    Arizona pool player thread

There is another place to play that is fairly recently opened... The Cactus Moon at the Riverview complex. They have about 13 8' tables (Anthony/Brunswick mix) and 2 Gold Crown 9'ers I believe. The owner is BIG into wanting to get tournaments, leagues, events going...

Im looking for a billiard hero... someone who has or is making a difference

Why does people keep saying, the last 2 or the 8 or 7 doesnt mean much?

Giving the 8-ball is a psychological factor... not to the pro giving it, but to the shill accepting it and thinking it gives them an advantage. So much so they are willing to put money on that belief. Very few will give weight when they dont have experience playing with that handicap. And...

Celebrity pool player for USO tour?

Its not surprising the limited participation from military personnel to USO shows today. When I was in AF back in 94, we had the world record holder in free throw shooting come by the gym for two days, and hold challenges, prizes etc... if you could tie or beat him in 10 shots. I stopped by...

FREE CUE to someone deserving.. paying it forward

I like the thought of offering it to a returning Vet. Maybe you should contact the PVA. They have a seasonal travelling league for paralyzed Vets who play, and Im sure they would know someone who would be needful and appreciative of your cue.

    Newman Calls it Quits

On-screen gin action means nothing. Roger Moore, aka James Bond was terrified of guns, and is outspoken of them in his time with Unicef. I guess its why life is simply one big irony.

When you're opponent pulls a number on you!

One time in a money game, I actually had the OPPOSITE happen. I was playing a guy race to 3 for $20. He won the first two games, then I came back with some REALLY good shots... like a jump from back to front on the 8-ball the first game, then a two-rail kick that left me with a 2 ball out...

Future of American Pro Pool: Young Guns

In the economics of it, perhaps this is where old paradigms win out over progress. In the old days, players traveled the road, making money in small towns, as well as large pool halls. While it wasn't the greatest income, once you established a reputation (Mosconi, Fats, Miz), etc... other...
