who do you think should get the louie roberts award for 2009? i think it should go to jason kirkus. not only did he drop around 50k, he showed enough gamble to travel 700 miles with 2 B players and kept them and himself in action all week. what are your thoughts?

Well Ironman, Mr. Kirkus definitely is not a bad choice at all. That guy is pure action and isnt scared to put it all up. Its a hard choice for me, its either Scooter or Jason, but i have to go with Scooter, simply because of that one other word that goes with the Louie Roberts Award, "ENTERTAINMENT". That kid has more lines than a Columbian coke dealer. Plus he's lucky to still be alive after I woke up Saturday night and he was laying in my bed curled up next to me crying about how cold Nasty and I kept the room!!!! I encourage everyone to vote on who they want to win the Louie Roberts Award, my vote goes to Scooter with Jason Kirkus a very very very very close second. Plus, Jason and Scooter agreed that if one of them won the award over the other, that next year they would share the room, so it works out for all involved.

I think if you went to the Derby City Classic, you should vote on it per http://home.comcast.net/~ohagnir1/Pool/Louie_Roberts_Presentation.pdf

I've roomed with the same guys at tournaments for a long time, and everyone but me seems to like it chilly in the room. I stayed with one of my best friends in Vegas about 4 or 5 years ago, for about 4 days, and he nearly froze me out of the room. Went to bed at Midnight, with a bucket of ice sitting on the table, and at 9am, it still had ice in it.
As for the Louie award, I wasn't in the action room much while I was there, but my vote would go to Scooter. I see him there every year, in action, and he's entertaining, there's no doubt about that.

Who did Kirkus bring with him? I seen where Scooter had Tedder with him in action all week just wondering:D

Kirkus had Tedder and Terry Stewart with him. Terry was in non-stop action too. That guy is a warrior, i dont know how he survived the week.

I've gotta go with Kirkus too. Not only did he himself pretty much stay in action, but he backed Tedder and Terry in all their non-stop action. By far, he put the most money in action at the derby and it wasn't even close.

All that being said, I know Kirkus and thought he was a little smarter than what I saw. Maybe he just felt like stone cold gambling for 2 weeks with tens of thousands of dollars. For my 50K, Im gonna take a few stronger players with me and make better games.

Jason, If you read this, I'm awaiting our golf game this summer. I'll come to Greenville or you can come to Georgia, or both. Either way, we'll all have a good time on and off the golf course.

I think I'm gonna go with Scooter.

I wasn't at DCC, but spent time (every day) on the TAR stream. Scooter was a fixture on TAR.

I'll agree that Kirkus is a leading candidate too. He definitely was a huge part of a lot of action.

Last, but not least...vote for the worst at DCC: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=129295

I think everyone so far is right on.

Scooter is a maniac and acts as a one-man betting window and side show act.

Kirkus on the other hand just funded a pool room for someone.

I have to go with Kirkus for the Action this year and Scooter for the Entertainment. I like both of these, but for me I have to go with the Action ... Kirkus gets my 1st place vote with Scooter a close second.

Scooter actually played more sets than a lot of people at home know about. Jason brought his money and gave it away but as bad as I hate to say it Scooter should win the award this year.

IMO the award should go to the person with the most gamble, not the person with the most money and least brains with how to bet it.

Losing one's shirt and going home with nothing more then the jeans you are wearing should not be a feat that wins you an award with Louie Robert's name attached to it.

We don't want a award like this devolving into some douchebag billionaire comming into the DCC one year and losing $1,000,000 in dumbass bets where he is just getting robbed via his own stupidity and then get handed the Louie Roberts trophy.

My vote also goes to Scooter. No matter if I was home watching via streaming or at the DCC, he was always giving us something to watch.

When your dropping money like Kirkus and word gets out that your not being smart about it then its easy to have all the action you want coming your way.
Scooter on the other hand drums up action. He gets other people to play even if he is not in on it.

Also Scooter would sidebet on any and every match. Not sure that Kirkus did much in the way of sidebetting or creating action which is what I perceive the contest to be about....... who creates and brings the most excitement/action ... not the most $$$

Vette -- i figured a UGA education would have gotten him some better matching up skills. What did you guys teach him there?

I also would say that both Sparky and Sylver should get their props for not backing away from tough action all week. They played each day multiple times often not having a great game.

If I could I would vote Scooter... he was all over the place betting and giving updates... Bet with so many people he got stiffed by some because he forgot what they looked like.

Kirkus wasn't just giving money away. In my original post I said that I thought he was smarter than what I saw, meaning that I thought he would make better games.

That doesn't mean that he, Tedder, and Terry were just giving money away. They won some big sets also. Most of the games they played were stone cold gambling. I hear people on hear talk about he's got gamble, he's got heart, etc... Well, if that's the criteria then Kirkus definitely displayed that by not getting lock games and being nitty.

I could never win this award because I don't have the gamble that it takes. That doesn't mean that I won't send 10K or more in, but I have to feel that I have way the best of it. Call it nittiness, lock artist, etc... It's why I get the cheese more often than not. Anyway, I'm still sticking by my original vote.
