BCAPL's move?

Good or Bad? I think it is great to get out of the Riv, and I hope this is a permanent change. Great news Mark! Does anyone think this is a bad thing?

The Rio is a good hotel and depending on what they are going to charge I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate that they can still get a cheap hotel room and $2 craps directly across the street from the venue.

It all depends on what they want for the cost of a room. Going to the Riv was pretty inexpensive, and you could always go to other, newer casinos if you wanted. I will reserve judgment until I see the cost comparison. For those that don't care about cost I think it is positive, for those of us that may be a little more "frugal" we will see.
For me, this was always a pretty cheap vacation as I am not the type to lose thousands gambling....maybe a few hundred, but that's it.
Yeah, I'm pretty tight with the cash.

Sorry but the Riveria is a DUMP like Circus Circus, and if you had a Players Card from most of the BETTER CASINOS you could get a BED BUG FREE ROOM for less money than the Riveria, or the Circus.

Last time we at the Riveria we went to where the BCAPL thing was armed with a bottle of H2O from outside the Riveria. The Door NAZI's said NO OUT SIDE DRINKS, so we guzzled the Water, and went in only to find Water on TAP with Cups for FREE.

That was our last trip to Sin City about 3 or 4 years ago. Not planning on going back to Sin City.

They are not really dumps CC. They are just a couple of the older hotels on the strip. The Riv has put a lot of effort into providing a great venue for the VNEA, BCAPL etc for many years. Its kind of disrespectful to call the Riv a dump after all they provided.

I stayed at the Circus the first time I went to Vegas. I didn't go there to sleep. The Air con worked, the bed was very comfy, the water was hot and the towels were clean. What more do you want when you are in the room for 5 to 6 hrs a day tops? I guess it doesn't take much to make me a happy camper after years of eating and showering in truck stops and sleeping in the sleeper of my truck.

I didn't bring home any scabies or bed bugs. But I did bring home some nice pictures and great memories of my first pool trip.

Bcapl move to Rio

I totally agree with blue hog rdr- we should all be very grateful for what the riv has done for pool.

We will have been there for 18 years - and we appreciate the Riv a lot!!

CC - please take your backhanded remarks somewhere else. This thread is about our move to the Rio.

I think this will turn out to be very good for BCAPL and for CSI (for the pro events) - and the winners are the pool players.

I will give a lot more info over next day or two. There is more coming from CSI.

We do provide 'more choices for all players'.

This is a great change, the Rio is lightyears beyond the Riv as a quality Las Vegas resort. It is a slight shame not to be on the strip but meh, small cost to stay at a resort so much nicer. The thing that sucks about this is that it is NOT 2012, I would love to go to the Rio this year and not have one more friggin year at the Riv...

I always thought the ultimate place to have the BCAPL championships would be Mandalay Bay, they are often dead during the BCAPL and they have a HUGE convention area that is nicely out of the way of the Casino. There are also 2 other hotels very reasonably priced on rooms that are connected by the tram and New York New York is also super close given that tram. Mandalay Bay and the Luxor certainly could have used the traffic from what I have seen and it would be odd if they would not have offered a pretty smoking deal on the facilities to get the players in there.

BTW, this is not the 'proper place' for this but I don't have any choice.

Because of our announcement on the BCAPL move to the Rio, if any needs to send me a pm, my box says it is full and isn't. I don't know how to get it cleared up, am waiting for mr. Howerton to fix it.

MY MAILBOX ISSUE IS FIXED - thanks to Mr. Mike

I've only been saying this move should happen for 10 years - glad to see that the Riviera and there poor service, poor attitude, poorly run hotel is no longer going to benefit from the BCAPL.

Smoking at Rio - NOT

The playing rooms will be non smoking.

Just so you know, the non smoking is a local regulation but we fully support non smoking. There are some close areas for smokers.

That's perfect. I just hate to have to run the gauntlet of smoke in the hallways in the immediate areas outside of the playing rooms.

The Riv served well for many years but this new era looks to be onward and upward.

Thank god they moved this event from the Riv!!! I give the Riv maybe another 6 months before they close for good. Shit hotel tbh....

We set up a page that went live late this afternoon. It has a lot of of information, paticularly in the Q & A section below the videos on the left side.

Hope you find it helpful :) also we will be at the Riv in May 2012.

Why bash the Riviera? Just so you know, they have new owners that have pumped a sizeable amount of money into it. They won't be going anywhere for a while. The truth is we have simply outgrown the property.

As far a smoking goes, it will be the same as the World Series of Poker. Just outside of the tournament rooms you have to go outside to smoke. However, at the WSOP they had misters out there. It is a little warm out that time of year.

Again, we are greatful for the years of service at the Riv. They have been great to us and we will miss some of the great people. People bash them often, and sometimes the service isn't great, but the people that we have dealt with have bent over backwards to help us out. We will miss them.

Let's keep this thread as it was intended. Onward and Upward!

$2 craps?

$2 craps is getting hard to find. Is that $2 table at the Rio? Hope so. Very curious what the rooms may be renting for. I always enjoyed the Riv, except for the food. Katys used to be okay, but they went downhill the last few years.

While I think overall the move will be GREAT (definitely a step up, but I didn't mind the Riviera); no one has mentioned the absolute worst thing that there is no hope of fixing - WE CAN'T WALK TO THE PEPPERMILL FROM THE RIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the Peppermill:(:(:(

I think it is great news for all pool players that this move is happening. Not saying that the Riv was bad, but the Rio is part of a major chain of Casino's.

Just saying that the Caesar's Casino's are located throughout the US and maybe in the future this event will open doors up for other regional events and other style tournaments at locations outside of Las Vegas.
