Danny was talkin serious shit to me for three days, I mean serious shit. The second night, some big dude almost whooped his ass, cuz he wouldn't stop talkin shit , not only to me but others as well. Danny escaped. The next and third time danny was shit talkin me while I was on my way to my room and he was on his way to the action room, he said somethin like "f%*get mothaf%#er, piece of shit somethin somethin, next thing you know, he has his finger in my face, I felt violated and dropped my cues and head butted him then hit him wit a three piece then he hit me once and then I had him in a head lock, I let him go cuz this kid was tryin to break it up, then when I was walkin back to pick up my cues, he ran up and hit me off guard then we almost locked up again but ended up goin about our ways. He got to a crowd of people before we were arrested and that's probably where the rumor came that I had a broke jaw and a tooth gone, sorry everybody but I only had a black eye from his 2nd punch. When they took pictures of any possibly injuries, they took like 4 or 5 of him cuz he was cryin "sayin it was only words" and "but but but he hit me first" waaah waaah. I sat in my seat with a puffy cheek and said nothing. They took 1 picture of my cheek. The arresting officer said from the video it is both of our faults. We got two misdemeanor charges each. So since these super false rumors were made up, I had to come on here myself to spit the truth. I landed 4 hits, he landed 2 hits. So the correct thread name is " Brandon shuff 4, Danny smith 2".

I remember when he barked at you to play one pocket for $10K but then didnt play nor put up any money, was that about when it all started.

lol like u had to post a thread about who really won a fight pretty stupid now u will both have assault charges on your record for life

Sounds like you guys could be the first contestants on pool, poker and pain!

thats what I was thinking, Blair needs to wake up and get going here-get these guys on a contract and make it happen, I mean this on the square. I know both guy's and aint neither of them going to back down. I'll open the line at -120 pick'em.

Brandon, sounds like you handled it well using the head butt to introduce a flurry of shots. good move.
seen you on the streams, you act professional as far as i can see. some jelousy may induce this type of behavior from the type of person you dealt with here.
i don't care for the punks who like to talk crap especially in the direction of a person old enough to be their father. seen it, been on the receiving side and it always makes them look like fools. because most people still remember to respect the elderly and i am gettin there.
these fools think it is good for action but there are fooling themselves. most people i know like to gamble in professional way like it is a tournament. a one on one event.

I'm taking Shuff if they get down with no protective gear on. I like this thread, he's setting the record straight. It's dumb they got arrested but better he got to lay his hands on that dude.

Shuff you played great the whole time, even Archer loses to Efren it's all good don't sweat it. Danny can't beat you at nothing either.

Thanks for the explanation B. You really didn't need to. Anyone who knows you knows that you're a good guy and that the other guy was in the wrong. Keep doing what you're doing at the table and represent for NoVa!

Don't become that guy who causes other people to think "pool halls are where all the losers and white trash hang out, I don't want my kids hanging out there." Don't be that ignorant sounding guy who walks around saying stuff like "yeah that kid was talking crazy shit so I fuċked him up."

You can grow up to be a person who has a little class, or you can be that guy on cops with his face blurred out, the kind of poor dumbass kid always walking around with a black eye asking to bum rides or smokes.

You're probably too young to believe it or listen, but you will get absolutely nothing out of fighting. You get a little misguided and stupid respect from buddies or on the forum but anyone who tells you "good job" on something like this doesn't know what the fuċk they're talking about. For one thing, you hit him first, you don't deserve any respect for that. But even if you didn't, if you can avoid fighting you keep a clean record, a good image, and you're not going to get anything broken. If you saw the hustler you know it's tough to shoot that way.

Even the best pool players in a world have a hard time making a living at it. I'm talking top twenty on the whole planet. If you manage just to make top 50 in the USA, you probably will still need a real job at some point in your life. That real job is going to be tough to come by with a record.

Being a professional and a decent human being needs to come first. Getting that kid to shut up is a distant second.

Valid points but a person can only take so much. The kid was in his face the whole week. Brandon is a great kid. Don't rush to judgment just because he headbutted some jerk who wouldn't leave him alone. For the kid to approach him when Brandon was heading back to his room shows that the kid was serious, and Brandon just took preemptive action before the kid punched him. I'm not a fan of violence, but some people just have it coming.

Also clarify - are you barred from the casino, the DCC or both?

I knew that there would be blows at the DCC the way some things were building. Normally pool players can talk and nothing will happen but a few of them this year were pushing the limit. One night a few of them thought nothing wrong with agreeing to a punching contest. To me, that is complete lack of disrespect to Greg from Diamond, TAR or what the DCC is trying to accomplish.

I have seen this attitude grow the past few years at the DCC. These young players that can draw their ball think they are above all and impervious to all as well.

Also, never worry about the person that asks permission to kick your a$$. The ones, shown by Brandon's headbutt, that don't ask permission are the ones to pay attention too. Danny wanted to put on a show and he got it.

Brandon,

Here is how I would have handled it, and please keep in mind, this is coming through the eyes of a man in his mid 30s, with more life experience..

You should have voiced your concerns about the guy and how aggressive he was being to an authority figure, someone who has some clout. Tournament director, TAR guys, someone. Make SURE you tell this person you do not want to get into a fight, and that the guy is getting a little out of hand with the aggressive behavior.

What this does is establish a defense if you have to defend yourself. The cops come and arrest both of you after an altercation. You ask them to speak to the person you talked to earlier, this person vouches for you and says that you had voiced concerns, and had no desire to fight.

And for God's sake, NEVER hit first, and ESPECIALLY not just because a guy is putting his finger in your face. You are a top notch professional pool player, Mr. Shuff, and I KNOW you have developed emotional control in stressful situations. It is a prerequisite. The only justification for hitting first is if you think the guy is going for a weapon.

You hit him more times than he hit you.

You are barred for life from the tournament venue that hosts the DCC.

Congratulations. :(

The fact that you made a thread to state how many times who hit who shows that your head is in the wrong place, and you have some growing up to do. Nobody "wins" a fight, Brandon.

First of all, I sympathize with your situation but that was the wrong place to do what you did. I hate to see you get banned and tagged with a criminal record for something like this.

In the past I would have bet that the young kid was on some hard drugs but these days some of these youngsters just seem to have this attitude. Some of the places I've lived, especially North St Louis, you won't make your 20th birthday acting like that. I wonder where these guys come from who act that way.

If someone pushed me like Smith was pushing Brandon, over and over, I would have done the same thing. Probably tried to do it out of sight if possible but there comes a point when you have to smack someone in the mouth.

Brandon is a good guy who got put in a bad situation by someone who has a long history of being an asshole. Could he have done something different ? Probably. The thing is, not one of us was there in his shoes.

I also understand wanting to get the record straight so to speak. That said I think letting this situation die a quiet death is probably the best course of action.

Greg Sullivan has once again shown the world that a great pool tournament can be successful. Reyes, a great champion. Harry Platis, a successful professional in the Hall of Fame. Jeanette Lee, Action Award and a total class act. We need more people like these to bring our sport to a higher level.

Two competitors not being able to control their emotions detract from everyones positive efforts. I wish them both luck but would rather not see them at the DCC again. Nothing personal---just Zero Tolerance.

Woofing is one thing, getting personal or nasty is very different. Hats off to Brandon, you probably could/should have done way more damage.

Voo~~~finger in the face = head butt

Steps For A Second Chance

I would like to take this thread in another direction and discuss what steps Brandon can take to restore his ability to play the sport that he loves in the premier tournament of the YEAR??????

1. I was thinking if he takes an ANGER MANAGEMENT course it may satisfy the Horseshoe Management & Diamond Management!!!

2. I was thinking a written letter of apology!!!

3. Maybe payment of a small fine!!!!

I ask this question because i BELIEVE in SECOND chances. Plus, you really have to think how much time and effort it takes to achieve this level of play. So, the question remains is there anything he can do to increase his chances of playing AGAIN?????

Sincerely,
Kid

I don't understand why you got banned from the DCC for life. Fighting outside of the tournament is akin to 'taking it outside' where it is noboby's business, except maybe the hotel's.

I understand that you had to do what you had to do, but the AZers here have not emphasized the most important lesson to be learned here:

Don't gamble with jerks and assholes as they are not worth the trouble. Period. Although sometimes this is tempting, you are better off just to ignore the urge.
