Danny, you are unfortunately a nice guy in a business that does not reward nice guys. What I wonder is why do smart, friendly guys like you get hooked up in a game that brings the worst out of most of the players? When somebody is playing and it's his rent, food, drug money in the balance, don't be surprised to not get a hand shake or"well played".

Jeezum, Jim!

Danny is a nice guy and so is John. I consider both of them friends.

They both are highly competitive and controversial things sometimes happen in competitive situations. They have their own perspectives about this and need to work this out between them.

Why would you mention "drug money in the balance" in your post?
John isn't a drug user and your insinuation to this is way out of line.

The other crap that was said or done between the two of them, pales in comparison to this.

I agree, bringing up someone's drug money is out of line. I hate it when I have my fix money on the light:D :D

Man you're weird. On one hand you talk about smashing someone into the ground and then you wonder why someone would talk down peace?

I thought I've seen it all until I've read your post.

A fight over honor is still peaceful. It is used when nessasary and in my country, only in your yard.

I think the world would be a better place if when someone called anyone else a bikjdfh, that person could choose to fist fight the name caller to make sure that the next time the name caller said some dumb comment like that he took a second to think about it.

I know that sometimes I come off stupid even more so on the internet. I guess I brought myself up right if I am less like the "smarter" people.

I never meant to take sides I just kind of wanted to say. I am tired of seeing that kind of stuff and I wish that good men everywhere were allowed to put an end to the lack of respect growing in our society.

I have seen a 14 yr old call his mother a c*** in front of a room full of grown men. I started to say something cause I know he doesnt have a daddy and his momma was allready smaller than him and everyone turned on me. I mean come on...

I think that If Danny asked you John. "Don't call me that it pisses me off" then you should respected that you didn't and that is why I called you fruity. No respect. I don't care what Danny did after that he was right. Just probably not like everyone else.

I probably shouldn't of said fruity over the internet I noticed everyone thought I meant gay I didn't mean to call you gay. I meant a little squirrely I just can't spell it correctly.

It's a piss poor world when we can't fight for whats right.

Your logic, although being pure at heart, is seriously flawed in today's world. In case you think we're still in 1984, there are no more fist fights nowadays. Beat somebody up for calling you a b**** and you're likely to turn around to a pistol touching your nose.

The world is a tough place. You can't go around thinking you're gonna bash someone in for calling you a name. You seem like you were bullied as a young boy--- is that true? Being a pool player, you better grow thicker skin than that. There is no fighting for honor anymore. That died somewhere in the 80's.

All in all though, I've heard much worse in poolrooms before where big money was on the line (and the light). I can't tell you how many matches I've seen where the players almost came to blows over a "possible" foul, an "incorrect" ball count or an "incorrect" score. The language used during these altercations was definitely X Rated and incendiary. Yet, the same players mended their fences and managed to continue the match. It's not pretty but it's all part of the game.

Pool has a way of getting to people and making them behave in ways they ordinarily wouldn't. The psychological aspect to pool is not often discussed, but is a big part of what makes champions or bums. Some can deal with it better than others.

Great post Jay, as per usual.

I have a question that I would very much like you to venture a guess on, or give your opinion on. (I was discussing this in PM's with Xianmacx, a real knowledgeable poster here, & would like to hear others opinions as well)

If, after all this hub-bub, either JS or DH played a big $ challenge match with a WCW (World Class Woofer) like Scotty Townsend or Keith, etc, how do you think it would effect each player?
For John, I think that the woofing sort of took the nervous edge he may have had away from him, sort of calming the butterflies, by channeling his nervous energy in the little pschological games being played. I think it HELPED him stabilize his nerves. Some guys just seem to play better & calmer when they're jibbering.
For Danny, it appeared to have the opposite effect. He seems to have been bearing down but when he heard something negative, it jacked him to the extent that some simple words took him off the table. He seems to have a problem "multi-tasking" at the table, i.e., he shoots better when he doesn't have to listen for, deflect or respond to any verbage. When things went downhill in him & John's "relationship", his game went south as well.
I did NOT see this match, I'm trying to go by what I'm piecing together in all these threads & posts. So, do you agree with me or am I way off?

No matter what, the "rubber-match" will be MUST SEE. This little rivalry between two super-elite players is good for our sport. Just look at all the buzz still being bantered about days after the fact.

I don't think Jim was implying that about John, just pool in general. And there are MANY pool players out there that applies too. Which can really go left unsaid if you've been around pool any length of time. And JoeyA has been around pool longer than the leather tip. :D

And that is how it started no respect and no one to make people respect each other and now after years of it they don't respect each others lives. It is really that simple!

John,
I hope you don't think I was bad mouthing you. I was just pointing out that a gentleman shows respect to everyone and at all times, until he is shown no respect when merited. Especially during business hours and if you are a great american pool player then how about having some respect while your at a table.

A man never ever crosses a line that another man asked him not to. If he's right then you respect his line. Unless your feeling squirrely. This tells me alot about a man's character. I don't know why you felt like crossing his line but, I know he drew one.

If you don't get that cool. I am probably wrong I do that. I didn't realize I was insulting you personaly. I'll stop posting about this. No Hard feelings on my end. Hope your not to miffed.

Jamison,
We're not really poking fun of you. We're in a different culture, that's all.
SpiderWebCom has been in some kind of a zone lately where every one of his posts for the last week or so have been some of the best ever written here. If he was a baseball player, he'd be batting around .800 or so. And I'll vouch for Easy-E as well. He is a super great guy with loads of heart & courage. But if everybody here is saying the same thing, maybe there's some truth in what's being said.

I'm 20 years older than you. That doesn't make me smarter or better, but I have experienced a lot more. I very seriously doubt if anyone on all of AZB has been in as many fights as me. (Well, maybe JohhnnyT), but besides being a former boxer, I loved street fighting even better. No rules. Plus, in my job alone, I've probably had at least 648 fights. (27+ years on the job = 324 months @ at least 2 fights per month (conservatively) =approx 648 fights just at work alone!) 39 as an amateur boxer, plus the roughly 150 or so street fights = about 830 or so fights.

All a big waste!

Now, just like SpiderWebCom said "You need thick skin." Fighting nowadays means you risk getting sued by attorney's. All for what? I've settled inside a long time ago. I have no urge to fight at all anymore, all fought out. When I do HAVE to fight, something inside just clicks and then when its over, it's over. I don't get all suped up anymore. If I had my way, nobody would ever fight anyone ever again unless it was in the ring or octagan as sport.

I'm a Christian since 1983. I still boxed after that, and had to fight at work. But I stopped hurting people for the fun of it when my heart changed. So, I do know about peace.

Peace is one of the greatest feelings anyone can ever have.
And peace to you, my friend.:)

I like both these guys and I also think the rubber match is much more interesting now because of the differences that they were willing to share with us.I also think that they both stumbled into a very marketable product with their trash talking and insults and I would like to share the commentary duties with someone like Grady so we all can have a lot of fun and watch a great match. Actually this in my opinion and is exactly what pool needs to get noticed. By the way Danny you'll have to raise your speed in trash talking a notch or two to stay competitive. So lets get it on.

Well I disagree that more trash talking is what pool needs to be economically viable, I really would love to see another rematch especially with you and Grady doing the commentary.

You can choose to fist fight anyone you would like. Just be willing to accept the consequences. If I call someone a name I am always willing to accept the consequences.

We can always fight for what is right.

Right.

And Jamison, remember, you're going to have to be able to deal with lots of guys who really do know how to fight. For example....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3K-mrlYG7Y

generalizations

For the love of god.....this is ridiculous.

If Efren misses a bank shot, that doesn't mean that he is bad at banks. If Alex breaks and flies off of the table that doesn't mean that his break stinks. We are all human, and even the best of us make mistakes on occasion.

If Danny got rattled it doesn't mean that he has no mental toughness, is easy to shark or is a chump. Likewise, if JS got frustrated and dropped a bad word or two it doesn't mean that he is a disgrace to the game. They had a moment of weakness in the heat of the battle and are both eager to put it behind them and move on. All this thread is doing is making it harder for them to do the right thing and let it go.

I would hate to have this forum turn into a tabloid and local players become the popperatzi trying to expose their imperfections. At least TV celebrities are getting paid big bucks to put up with it, I don't think Danny and John need to hear all of this garbage.

Please, let this thread die now. Thank you.

Alexander Hamilton

That was about the most inept quote I have ever seen.

Hamilton was SHOT DEAD in a duel over a comment in a newspaper article!

Resorting to physical violence over such relative trivia as a pool game is just simply ignorant.

Especially where there are guys like my friend the ex Navy Seal. Stands about 5'8"...155 dripping wet. You pick the biggest bruiser in the joint and give him a knife. I'll pick my friend and lay you 8/5...but your bruiser has to take the first swing...so my friend can rely in the self defense excuse to avoid what otherwise might become a manslaughter charge.
