i will do this.

There is no way that Earl deserves a spot on the team. His play hasn't shown him to be deserving and his general behavior sure as hell has not shown him to be deserving of being on the team... just the opposite.

He's an embarrasment to the team and to the game. Period.

I think John would be good for the team. As far as I know, he's a great player and a pleasure to play with.
Of course there are "pool politics", and Earl is good for the team for the viewers. I love an Earl meltdown....who doesn't??
Forgive me, I haven't been paying attention to the candidates for team USA, but I was wondering if Jeremy Jones was a consideration?
Anyways, hope it's a good squad this year.

I think they go by the BCA points list for the first two selections.

If that is Johnny Archer and Shane Van Boening, does Oscar have a shot, since he just won Turning Stone?

Earl has always treated me in a very kindly and gentlemanly manner. BUT in no way am I a threat to him and his profession. You are. Just like Corey was when Corey won the US 9 ball title. He treated Corey so bad I really despised that moment. I think this is the kind of competitor he is. Win by any means necessary.
The thing Ive noticed in your matches John is you let it get to you. And the more it gets to you Earl will take advantage of that. And I think that is the ultimate question. The Mosconi cup presents a lot of challenge and pressure. I saw you in 2000 at the NY US straight pool event and you did let pressure there get to you. I saw you at the Derby where Earl just got to you and you had such a difficult time I felt for you. But you ended up losing. Im not saying this is exclusively your problem but its something to think about.
I can say that since you are an American and a representative of what the best of the Western states can offer I really support you. I was sorely disapponted that you could not represent us at the Predator 14.1 World. I think it was a bit careless of you. The Mosconi Cup is an important event in the year of pool. I do hope you make the team but in doing so I hope you will take the time to prepare solely for it Earl or no Earl.

well

2000 14.1 was my first tourney ever came in 9th.also last two times i played earl i won 11-3 and 11-5 so i think ill be ok .thanks

I think the bottom line on Earl making the team again is....He SELLS seats. and makes people watch on TV.

You got to give it to him...love him, or hate him.

Over the years he's shown spectacular play, and has been the main focus leading up to the announcement of USA participants.

"Is Earl going to make the team again this year"....has been asked EVERY year for the last 7-8 years. Like clockwork.......over and over again.

He belongs.....

If you look at Matchroom Sports (Promoters) website http://www.matchroompool.com/page/MosconiCup/NewsDetail/0,,12660~1739470,00.html where they are promoting ticket sales for this year's event....you'll find Earl's photo on one side, with Ralf's on the other. Right on the banner at the top of the page.

I think he's 'in'.........

I love Earl as a player, he's defaintely one of the legends of the game, but Earl WAS a win at all costs player, now he is a 'win or get cracked at the smallest distraction player.' My main question is - you think things get to John more than they get to Earl? I think we both know the answer to that one.

Well, one thing for this, this thread has garnered a lot of interest, and it is multiplying by the seconds. Over a thousand hits in less than a day! ;)

Thats just it, no one cares who anyone likes/dislikes......the pick is going to be whats best for the team to win. Never had the need to call someone out over their attitude, especially when they have preformed so well against the opponent at a particular event. We would have known exactly what he was trying to say without Earl thown in. It's just unsporting.

G.G.

whats unsporting is way Earl conducts himself at events like these - it doesn't matter how well he performs or performed. In any other major sport he would be penalized by missing the next one. Also, what's truly unsporting is the way Earl has treated John at previous events, and I don't blame John for bringing it up, as it is a valid point for him deserving to be there more than Earl.

If they do a vote which it says they will then I will be voting for Earl, he is entertaining and a great player.

Earl

I doubt the Matchroom head honcho even cares who wins this competition. His motivation is money and Earl sales tickets. Its the same as Nascar crashes and Mike Tyson biting ears.

that being said if im picked and do not earn my way on from points im going to donate a 1000 if we lose and 2000 if we win to the bca billiards for youth foundation.

I am not as rich as John Schmidt and have my motorcycles placed all around the country in case I want to drop by and do some riding but I will add to his donation offer of:

if he is picked, I will donate $100 if the USA lose and $200 if the USA wins to the BCA Billiards for Youth Foundation. (hope they have a Fed Tax ID#)

Good luck John with your campaign.

I say have an 8 man single elim tourny for final 2 spots. Race to 15. You could have John,Earl, corey, oscar,Dennis, hilbilly, stevie, and JJ.

exactly how do you propose to handle the situation if you are selected and Earl is also selected and you are forced to play on the same team? Sounds to me that this would be the worst situation possible. Sounds like you just forced the team to decide between you and Earl.

He may be a jerk but he sells tickets and he's accomplished more than virtually anyone else in the sport. Your personality shouldn't have a lick to do with it, it should be based on your ability. If Earl doesn't have the ability to play at that level anymore then he shouldn't get to play.

if we both are on team if he will act right and respect everyone on team ill forgive all the past.
earl is talented for sure and i will go to battle with him if need be ,and be the first to highfive him win or lose. but hes gotta act right and frankly theres other guys who play great and act right, gabe, stevie, corey, tony, max, shannon, etc etc etc.
i wanna be on team period and so do many others.

why dont you put my name in there?
jk

mosconi cup is coming up and its got me thinking.
i havent played all the events this year that i could ,so making the team on points is gonna be close.
im gonna get lit up for this but i think earl is such an embarrassment for america and the team that im going to vomit if hes there again.
earl has treated me like a jerk my whole career and frankly im not going out of my way to not tell it like it is.
i want to make the team badly this year for several reasons , not unlike all the other players and feel that im playing good and will not make the team or usa look bad, and will help us play well because we get along and respect each other.

that being said if im picked and do not earn my way on from points im going to donate a 1000 if we lose and 2000 if we win to the bca billiards for youth foundation.

im not grandstanding or trying to bribe my way on team ,ok maybe a little lol,but if im fortunate enough to be on team i will gladly give some back to help pool .i think anybody who makes team should do the same but hey that jmho.

How do you know that you will be on the list for us to choose from?
