Is anyone paying attention?

I did notice that Ryan wasn't around much but with a heavy work load, just figured he was taking a break.
So we have, Dicky, KJ, Chris, Eric, Lee, Scott G, Tony Z, Dave B, Jer, Mike W, Joey, Desi, etc, that contribute lots and other maybe newer cue makers that have some good tips as well.

I'm thinkin this is still a pretty good turn out.
like anything else,
you gotta take the bad with the good
i bite my tongue keeping my opinions to myself
then i go kick the dog or cat
whichever is closest

I knew I forgot someone important, sorry Brent.
Thats the problem with getting old and absent minded.

LOL and some of us don't hold back & speak what's on our mind, then everybody thinks we're assholes. So save face & keep kicking the dog.

I'm at home with my 4-year old all day today so no work for me til late tonight. I'm getting all the cues cleaned up ready for finish & such. Still got a little ways to go on a couple but compared to other years i'm ahead of the game this year.

Some interesting points have been raised.
Everyone is self taught.
Trades people have a mentor showing the traditional way of how they were shown the art.
If the student does not have the inititve to understand and move forward, the have learnt nothing.
I am new to cuemaking and do not make conventional cues.
There are many people with alot of experience still here.
It seems that the search button may be inoperable for some viewers .
Happy cuemaking.

Um... Maybe out of line here, as I am not as experienced at cue making as so many others on here; however I would like to apply for aceptance into the 'secret society' if I may...

Me too! I was refused once because I wasn't a full time builder. Due to the economy and weather, I have been building cues full time for the last two weeks. Does that count? At this rate I will starve in two more weeks! Please hurry!

I have learned alot in the last year that I have been playing with cues. To those that take the time to help us new guys. Thanks!!!!!

I joined this forum about 5 years ago. I was just getting started and was hungry for knowlege. This forum was great back then. Newbies, like myself, posted questions and more experienced members shared their expertise. Many, many times these more experienced members told the story of "when I started" cuemakers were a tight lipped group and I had to learn the hard way. Those members changed that. They freely shared what they had learned.

Fast forward 5 years. It seems like we've come full circle. I see an elite class (or so they seem to think of themselves this way) that reminds me of the old stories. Their answers to questions seem like they want to impress people with what they know, but not really answer the questions. Sometimes actually saying "you need quit asking for easy answers and figure it out for yourself like I did". So much for "Ask the Cuemaker"

I feel lucky that I joined when I did. I feel sorry for the "new guys" joining now.

With all due respect, the name of the forum is "Ask the Cuemaker",
not "Please teach me to be a cuemaker".

I am certainly in the group of guys who learned the hard way,
and when I say HARD WAY, you have no idea how hard...

FWIW - I share info - there are some things I'll tell anyone,
but there are some things I would tell no one.

Also, FWIW - some of the questions I want to reply something like
"You're on the internet you dipstick - look it up "

Im a newbe. the questions Ive asked gave good info. I know nothing about what you gentlemen are talking about. but from what Ive seen most are answered pretty well. Just a newbe.

I have never seen the folowing post here,,,,,

manzino,scruggs,mottey,white,ernie,jensen,tad,showman,

These are top makers in my book

True ... the top makers just dont need the information from here.
What they do need they get elsewhere.

Summertime could have something to do with it.
More outdoor activity and less time online.

Not that I am anybody ... but I lurk around here and read the posts.

Most of the basic cue making questions have been asked and answered many times and a search will often answer a question before it gets posted.
There is a tremendous amount of information in the archives here.

It's too bad that it has come to this. As a new builder, I keep my nose out of all the pissing contests. What I do is ask a few questions, keep my mouth shut and read what the more experienced guys have to say on subjects. I have a word document that is over 7 pages long of different posts from the more experienced guys. It's broken down into different catagories for each area of building. I honestly feel I'm years ahead of the curve because of what I've learned here. I refer to my note sheet often, just as a refresher.

New builders need to realize they aren't crap in the grand scheme of things. Keep your mouth shut, and you'll pick up a lot of very valuable information. At least that's how I look at things.

I frequent the other site as well, but am not privy to the private forum. I would love to be, but even the regular forum, a guy can pick up some great tips as well.

These forums are free advertising highways. The masters don't need to advertise.

I've learned from the forums and enjoy sharing my opinion. The KNOW IT ALL'S barking their ways take the fun out of it. I'm not a master but I have lots to share, I'd post more if the threads didn't turn into a competition of who's ideas are better.

I joined the cue maker forum and have been reading it for weeks. I've noticed a difference in how the posts are worded. They're short and to the point. No arguing who's ideas are better. No self promoting.

The established builders don't need to use the forums to promote. They paid their dues and when they leave the shop work is over. They can use the time to live life and enjoy their families. Can't blame them for not wanting to log on and spend hours talking about cues.

Everybody here knows how many hours it takes to fallow one forum. Multiply that by how many forums one might fallow. I appreciate the masters that find the time to help.

I have a web site & have been making sticks for a long time. I am an old timer & at this time in my life, I am more than happy to share some of the little, that I know. PM me or e-mail me with questions. On the private cuemaker site I have definate opinions. I feel that iot should be kept to CUE MAKERS" only. It allows us cue makers, to discuss things in detail that we have real questions about, without any intejections from those that don't acctually build & understand the building of cues. I click on all of the people that claim to be "CUE MAKERS" & I don't find any web sites, pictures of cues or any indication that they are indeed making pool cues. I would be happy to recommend any new "CUE MAKER" to the privae cue makers site, IF they could show me that they have at least MADE cues. At this stage of my life I have few secrets. Don't be shy, ASK...JER

I have to agree on this, and no questions are new, its just getting reapeted just like the water cycle.
This sections really a big helps to everyone, but as for me, there are things that destined to exposed and shared but others must be keep in silent. And those in silent aspect are discovered not in online means but in day to day actual learning.

Can I ask you guys a question?
Did anybody pm Mike AZ House Pro or Mr. Wilson about that?
I pm'd Mike and he answered a question that I for him.
The fact the matter is, some threads get removed and some don't. There is no consistency. I know that nobody likes forum cops but for certain threads to get deleted, I've seen much worst getting into pissing constests with no mods intervention. I am not against moderation but it needs to be consistent to enforce whatever the rules are. JMO.

A lot of the search could be eliminated because some threads that actually pertain to Cue making should be sticky's and have their own section attached to the Ask the Cue maker section, just like they did with the raffle section. Pretty simple.

i thinks its doable and that would be great if that happens..
