Just a short update on what is going on......

The floor plan has not been finalized. There will be approximately 16@7' tables + 8 @9' + 6 x 12 golf table. All Diamond ProAm tables. They will have good lighting.

The building has been gutted to the walls.
The windows will be paneled off - no glare EVER.
The air conditioning system has been worked over and is better than ever.

This will not be your 'regular pool room' - this place will make a statement. It is designed towards women. The kitchen is now 4 times the size and the food will be great.

My standards will demand the place be spotless at all times.
The bathrooms will be among the nicest in city - the (glass) wall tile is to die for!

This is a work in progress. I'm always open for intelligent suggestions. I have a plan, (an image in my head), of what a pool room should be. I can't find one so I'm going to build a place I can be proud of.

And yes, we will have a lot of tournaments and leagues - but this is 8,000 square feet; we can do a lot of things. I can't wait for it to be completed so everyone can share in my concept. I promise you it will be one of the nicest rooms you have ever seen.

Mark Griffin

Good luck to you sir, may you have as much joy in it, in 30 years, as you do now.

Mark;

Best of luck with this new venture. It sounds like it will be a first class operation and that's not surprising, at all.

All I can add is to keep seating with good viewing in mind for any potential events expected to be held there and, oh yeah, maybe throw the carom guys a bone by having a table for them, too.

Imagine, pristine bathrooms in a pool room.

Maybe Keebie's dream has some merit, could call this place "Heaven".

And more important than all of this is I'm very happy your health is continuing to move upward. :)

best,

or a 10ft diamond.....and we could cobble up some heavy weight pool balls, with custom inserts....lol...or just give glenn a bunch of money....a lab...few engineers and build something that plays both lol...i'm sure it can be won somewhere in town with a roll of the dice  lol

then i'd think ya would have to call it that....but the 5speeds would call that table HELL :)

Las Vegas new pool room

Well- we made a lot of progress in the last couple of days. The concrete floor looks like a bomb went off-we have cut up the floor in about 5 places. We have to put in a grease separator - even though there is no grease in our kitchen. Las Vegas is forcing all restaurants (even Subway) to put in 1,000+ gallon tanks. (Cost is about $15-$20,000).

But we're going to pour all the new concrete on Monday. Then we can start putting the place together.

More to come later----

I forgot to remind you, Mr Griffin, not to use pool players in the construction.

Hi Mark,
I didn't see where you answered the question about smoking .
I had hope it would be non-smoking ....
Best of luck ....

Las Vegas pool room

This is an 8,000 square foot room. We have completely removed or replaced everything, even all the insulation and ceiling tile. There is no smoke smell anywhere.

All air conditioning has been revamped. Ducts cleaned. Some parts weren't even connected or working. We're installing new exhaust system in the front bay(building is a combo of 6 bays) they will pull all stale air out of the building. There was ample supply to support this change.

Smoke is necessary in a bar with gaming - but the back half will be non- smoking. With the air exchange we have, plus the 120 feet of building length, their will be minimal smoke. Every bay also has its own supply and exhaust - and they work. So to compare this to the previous Pool Sharks would be unrealistic.

I'm very sensitive to smoke. If I can sign off on it, I think just about anyone can.

Best of luck Mark. Sounds like a great place. I'm a little nervous who you might choose to manage it - that's my only tip to you.

....snip....

And the bathrooms will shock you on how nice they will be.

....snip....

How are you going to keep the bathrooms clean? That is a pet peeve of mine, from the workplace, to the pool hall.

Make sure you pick a good urinal. There are lots of styles out there, and some simply work way better than others. Some splash the piss back out and onto your pants and the floor, even if the user is super careful. Some accept the piss gracefully, and don't splash out. And some are designed so when you shake at the end, it doesn't completely miss and land on the floor. The design of the urinal is KEY to a clean bathroom, imo. I've looked at this extensively over the years, because I'm an anal engineer, and can't stand my workplace urinals. They were brand spanking new American Standard 6 years ago and have splashed piss everywhere from day one.

Even with a stellar urinal design, you will probably need someone to go inside the bathroom every hour with a mop if you truly want a clean floor.

Good luck with your room!

New Las Vegas pool room

That's a decision that won't be taken lightly. There is a lot of management talent in Vegas. It will take up to 9 months to get the gaming license, so I need to really groom or hire the right team.

Btw, it would be a great place for a Golden T tournament ......

you can have all the exchange air you want but a smoke environment is real bad for your health. best if you own it and not go in your own place. think about all the pool players that are dead from smoking.

also 80% of the people dont smoke, so you are catering to a smaller segment and that segment also has the least money. ever wonder why.

some people that dont smoke will go into a smoking place but tend to stay a short time.

you are right about the gaming part. mostly the slots though. a much higher % are smokers in the slot areas.

New pool hall in vegas

I appreciate all the comments BUT - before anybody makes judgment on the facility, at least come and see it.

When you go to a Vegas casino, you cannot smell smoke unless you are within a couple of feet of the source. So please reserve your opinion until we are open and all systems are tweaked.

This place is going to set A new standard for Las Vegas (and beyond). If you are going to make up your mind prior to visiting the room- so be it. But I think this is a step to bring pool back to the masses.

So smile and enjoy!!!!
