Respected and knowlegable members

I recently welcomed a new member and suggested he heed the input of a few members. My list was not my complete list-I can't remember them all.

I wonder if you have your own 'must read' list of posters and if you would share it/with maybe a short comment as to their specialty topic(s) or area(s) of expertise that make them a favorite of yours.

This isn't meant to be a popularity poll-but rather an expression of appreciation to our long list of knowlegeable and generous members for their ongoing contributions to our community.

A listing doesn't mean an ordering of merit-it's just a list.

Atta-boys/ladies are in order for a lot of folks that post here.

Thanks to them and you in advance. (We may have to name them-since most of them will not blow their own horn).

Take care

Can we also provide him a list of names to avoid? ;)

j/k!

pretty good company

Anytime these names come up I will generally read the thread

Jay Helfert
Jerry Forsyth
Fast Lenny
Jcin
Scott Lee
Nathan Dumoulin
John Schmidt
Mark Griffin
Roy Steffenson
Pro9dg

there are more but those are the main ones I can think of right now.

This is my own personal way of using the forum for information (most of it pertaining to professional billiards)

I am also very honored to be in such good company. Thanks You.

Mark Griffin

genomachino, thought I would throw his name in the hat.Truth is there is alot of knowledge on this forum and you will without a doubt see it appear every day on here, there are too many to list

So many great people with sooooo much knowledge, I'm always afraid to give names because I don't wanna leave anyone out.....but agree wholehartedly with those thrown out already....

Since I've set up a few tables in my past, I also like the threads from Cuephoric and Glen.....

Realkingcobra hasn't been mentioned yet. I'll throw his name out there. Amazing wealth of knowledge when it comes to tables.

The list of valuable knowledgeable posters on this forum is a long one indeed, but I'll give the nod to Jay Helfert and Mark Griffin as the two whose presence in these AZB parts I value the most.

Jude Rosenstock and Neil both always have excellent input on the "how would you play this" threads, which I find very valuable.

Bob Jewett and Mike Page are two of the smartest people I'm aware of, and if a technical question relating to the science of billiards come up, theirs are the posts I'm looking for.

I really enjoy NewStroke's sense of humor.

-Andrew

If you are looking to learn the game then I would advise reading:

Stan Shuffett
SpiderWebComm
Jay Helfert

Some of Spidey's threads are the ABSOLUTE best. Whether you agree with him or disagree, they always have tons of opinions by a lot of smart people.

I would also suggest looking up Jude Rosenstock's, What would you do? posts. Lot's of great insight and I have learned a lot just by reading what more experienced players do in certain situations.

Yeah, I absolutley LOVE those "What would you do?" threads. I always learn from them.

When it come to identification of older cues I would have to add the following:

mrhoppe - Brunswick cues modern to antique, he is also the forum's foremost authority concerning any and all Hoppe Titlist cues, hence his name mrhoppe.

Jayman - This gentleman is the forum's foremost authority on Adam Custom Cues, Helmstetter Custom Cues and all other's made by Adam Custom cues. This gentleman is also an expert on all older Viking cues.

Tate - Most knowledgeable poster where any of the original Palmer Cues are concerned anywhere. This gentleman is also knowledgeable about older Brunswick cues

Tates Website the Palmercollector.com

http://www.palmercollector.com/Index.html

All these gentleman are a wealth of knowledge on cue identification their expertise goes beyond the area's I have listed above and they are always willing to share their knowledge. I have personally learned something from each and everyone of these gentleman.

JIMO

Not only is Tate all you say about his knowledge on Pallmer cues but he also know how to use them.

I had the pleasure of playing him a few sets a few weeks ago and I was highly impressed with his skills. When he has his game in high gear not too many players will have the best of it.

a couple names

I dodge trying to put out a complete list because I could list several dozen very valuable posters that I try to read every post of theirs that I see and still leave out at least a dozen more who I fail to list at the moment however I'm going to post a reminder here.

Terry Ardeno. I doubt anyone on this forum has a reference library the size of Terry's concerning old time pool players and old time pool. Others trust to memory, Terry uses memory but usually has written proof to back it up.

I also must mention JoeyA since I know him personally and often encounter him at Buffalo's or local events. Joey has been playing pool longer than most folks on the forum have been alive and he still seeks new information and new ideas to improve his game with the enthusiasm of a newcomer. An absolute wealth of information, a great person, and often the voice of reason in threads.

The fingers are itching to type a half-dozen more names and brief explanations of why I find them special but there truly isn't a stopping point, wherever I stop I will leave out people I shouldn't. Every one of the people that has been on the road or made their living playing pool make great contributions when they choose too and all are special to me. Just thinking as I type my list could grow to somewhere in the neighborhood of a hundred people and still be incomplete. I greatly value those that contribute sound information and those that contribute real life experiences and road stories. Few on the forum don't contribute one or both at least sometimes. I guess I should go with Trigger's idea, the people to ignore would be a shorter list.

Thanks guys. The hardest part is picking out interesting scenarios worthy of discussion and REMEMBERING that it's a discussion from start to finish. I think I've gotten better but still have room for improvement.

THANKS Everyone

Thanks to those who responded. Thanks also to those you chose not to post because it is so hard to list All who contribute mightily.

Lists can never be complete and therefore are a flawed way of trying to thank everyone for their valuable contributions to these forums.

I gotta agree-Newstroke makes me laugh-That guy ain't right-and that I appreciate his brand of humor -ain't right.

We are a good family. We have some dirty laundry and in-fighting like most families. But like the best families-all that can be put aside for an issue or crisis of enough importance to have each others backs.

OK-now back to barking.

PS-the Barbr knows a lot of stuff

Everyone take care

Edit: the Barbr is of course dabarbr/ Sorry

3-man,
I wonder if your friend realizes that the world of true pool fanatics is quite small; and the majority of the sharpest pool minds in the world are HERE (unfortunately it is sometimes tough to wade through the chaff to get to the wheat....spoken as part of the chaff). Some are deceased, but a real student might search through their post history.

...gosh, now that I think about it, I can go on and on and on. Just lots of great folks here. Creating a "Wall O' Bozos" list might be easier than a list of the greats.

IMO everyone has something to offer on this forum. It doesn't matter what the topic or what question is raised, there is someone who has the answer. I can't say how many threads I see where I am ready to offer my two cents and see that someone has beat me to it, with the same comment I was about to make.

I've been around this game a long, long time and still I learn new things from the crew on here. The cumulative pool knowledge on AZ is unmatched anywhere else.

As an aside, I've seen several generations of players come and go. When I was a kid the old timers were Lassiter, Crane, Balsis and Puckett. They were still competitive with the current top guns who included Kelly, Breit, Johnson, Worst, Allen, Ervolino, West and Burge. Then came my generation with Mizerak, Margo, Hall, Rempe, Varner, Reyes, Hopkins and the kid Sigel.

After them came Strickland, Ortmann, Carter, Bustamante, McCready, Souquet, and the kid Archer. Now it is a whole new generation of young guns in Frost, Ochoa, Immonen, Orcullo, Pagulayan, Schmidt and Mills. Another crop of young'uns is pushing fast to get in there now. I hope I get to see a few more before I'm gone.

Any and all of the people kind enough to post anything to my posts. Truth be told I enjoy being a part and I'm very impressed with the depth of talent here. poolzcool!

I will humbly submit Manwon. I find him to be very knowledgeable and his threads are very well written. I have learned much from him

I like Cocobolo Cowboys too. He cracks me up at times.

Shooting arts is a wealth of info. And lastly John Barton. He is a treasure trove of knowledge. And he is so good at imparting it.

Mark Shuman

And not being able to remember more, Due to severe brain damage:o
