Unhappy with Edwin Reyes

Believe me I love to and have searched for ways. Sending with knowledge of a higher risk of losing it is foolish so an alternate plan was offered to Shane and hopefully all will go well.

I appreciate the concern for fellow posters displayed. I fully understand that some circumstances, nuances of the trade at a global scale, involving this is hard to fathom.

This is easy. Send him another cue without ivory. He'll take it and this silliness stops.

haha you making it sound like we're in the 30's or 40's where we don't have shipping companies such as aramex, fedex, dhl etc... just ship the item rofllmao

I don't make cues without a purpose meaning all are started with an end user determined and not before having one (no spec cues). A non-ivory laden cue was offered to be completed but still no response.

You can quit roflyao now because there are still laws that govern certain materials importation no matter who the carrier is.

I spoke to a well-known, RESPECTED, cuemaker yesterday evening whose initials are JB, about this situation. He did let me know that it is illegal to import/export any item with ivory from the USA. However, he let me know that if your were going to import a cue into this country to do so using UPS or US Mail. FedEX goes thru Alaska & the customs agent up there is schooled on what to look for when a package comes thru. If you ship a cue UPS or US Mail then simply list its' value at $50. If you list the value at $1000 it brings up a red flag.

That being said - all this does not explain why Edwin has not shipped a non-ivory cue in the past 18 months. Has every cue that Edwin ever made contain ivory? This again, is a lame excuse. Surely, Shane is in the billiard industry & understood that the bet would be settled by a non ivory cue in the first place. He would not be uneducated as to the laws of importing an ivory cue.

Did Edwin think that the cue he was going to receive if he won the bet would contain ivory? Obviously not. All this has no logic & again, lame.

Do people actually read the entire thread before posting? I don't disagree with your timeline arguments, or the fact that it could have been resolved a different way, but Shane admitted in post #10 that he didn't know about ivory shipment into the U.S. being illegal.

Seriously people, read the thread, maybe even re-read the thread, before posting.

I enjoy looking at Edwin's cues posted, and I respect Shane from his posts here. I hope this works out for both parties.

Seems like the ivory excuse was provided in this thread. I mean if I read all the posts about how hard it is to ship ivory I would run with that one too.

Sorry Shakes - thanks for pointing that out. You are much smarter than me and I didn't re read what I read yesterday again today.

So did Shane find this out yesterday or 17 months ago?

Does every cue in the world contain ivory?

Edwin apologized.
Has now communicated with Shane and they have come to a resolution.
Should Edwin cut-off his finger and hand it to you?

The 7-pointer long splice cue Edwin bet, has ivory ovals under the collars.

You cannot import or export ivory to and from this country, period.

So what happens if you own a cue made in the USA with ivory inlays and travel with it outside the USA? When you return do you face problems?

I heard the pro players have no problems doing so.
I dunno how they prove they are pro players though.
Must be the expensive Justis case they have with their names on them.

I've read the C.I.T.E.S. act of 1989 a number of times and according to what I've read it makes no difference if it is a sailor bringing in a scrimshawed Walrus tooth or the President's wife bringing in a set of ivory earrings, it is illegal. A Pro pool player takes his chances the same as everyone else. It used to be the laws were strictly enforced and then they became very lax. It greatly depends on which political group is in the White house. Some are more concerned with the Earth and environment and others aren't going to let a little thing like an Elephant get in the way of making a higher dividend . Now they are getting a little stricter again after all of the illegal ivory that was caught going to Japan

This may seem like a stupid question, but does it matter if the ivory is used for commercial use or private use? If you are selling the item is it treated differently than a product that has already been purchased?

no

The rules are the same for everyone and all ivory.

Thank you for clearing that up, did't know for sure and had to ask. Perused some articles on Ivory and laws but it didn't seem like there was a definitive answer or organization to handle it.

Even the US Customs website didn't seem very professional for some reason, maybe I was looking at the wrong thing.

Agreed. I ran into a smiliar issue with our government & its' laws when I tried to found out legally how much cash you can bring on a flight. Numerous phone calls to airlines, federal agencies, websites & I still couldn't get a definite answer.

I'm pretty sure the limit you can carry without declaring it is $10,000, for international travel. Domestically I don't what the limitations are. I do know that I've carried over 40K back from Vegas after a poker tournament. It was in my carry on bag and it went right thru security on the belt. They didn't ask, I didn't tell. Kapeche
