What's a good player cue for $500-$800

Simple is fine. I'm looking for a little softer hit. I've been playing with 10 year old Pechauer ss joint.

I'm looking to spend $500-800 on a cue. Any suggestions?

The only way to buy a cue is to find one that feels good in your hands, no one can tell you what that will be, others can only suggest what to them is a good cue. No two cues hit a like, so because you tried some ones Blank blank brand doesn't mean if you order a similar model from the same maker that it will feel or hit the same way.

Many factor's make individuals like one brand and dislike another brand, such as, diameter of the butt, shaft and butt taper, the balance, the ferrule material and on and on.

The only way to find out what is best for you is to try a number of cues until you find what your looking for, other than that it is hit and miss kinda like pissing in the wind!!!!

This is pretty much the standard correct answer for the OP's question.

In that price range...

...one good bet would be the production Balabushkas from Adam. There are several models; in my opinion it's one of the better production-line cues ever offered. But you've received some very good advice on just how subjective a matter this really is. GF

I hit a high end custom cue last week. It hit like a frieght train. then the owner changed shafts (same maker-same tip) and it hit much softer.
Sometimes its a crap shoot.

Primarily, I had only played with Meucci and Mcdermott cues. However, recently, I purchased my 1st custom cue. The name of the cue is "Calavera". The cue has a great hit! Check out the website below; I own cue #8 on the Home Page of the site.

VERY well said!

The original question is like asking what is the best car in the $30-35,000 price range. Many out there to choose from, and much depends on what you like...

That said, I would add Keith Josey, Jack Madden, and Crown cues to your list of possibles. They all make customs in the OP's price range.

Thanks for the info. Can you suggest any place's were I can hit with some nicer cues ($800 range) in So.California?

I have a brand new cue by George Weston. It's all exotic hardwood, 4 point construction, olivewood into birdseye maple, with ebony, yellowheart, rosewood and maple points.

George uses his fathers splicing technique to achieve seemless veneers like his father. The cue has 2 shafts, 19.5 oz and plays lights out.

Steel joint, linen wrap, very old school in appearance.

It's a lot of cue for 750.00
