Young Brendan Crockett at U.S Bar Table

I don't care if he's been playing for 2 or 10 years.. The kid is the real deal, he plays a very strong game, I got to watch him at the DCC this year. He seems to have great composure, confidence and good attitude as well.

Brendan, what is your weekly practice regimen like? What do you think helped you the most in getting to this level so quickly??

Peace, Joey K

He really is a class act, his game is obviously getting to the point where players are not real happy to see his name when they check their matches but he is also very polite and a good sportsman. He gets 100% support from his family too and they have obviously done a great job. You will be seeing Brendans name alot in the future.

Brendan's a great kid...

A funny story that made me a little embarrassed.

I had been sitting with Brendan and CJ upstairs at Hollywood billiards watching some matches in the swannee and analyzing the play, and then I went and played a match and came back upstairs later. He was sitting there and someone had their cue case sitting in one of the chairs.

He asked the person if they were using the chair a couple of minutes after I had walked back up and I didn't realize that his dad was standing nearby and thought that he was asking for me to be able to sit down and watch the matches with him again, so I started to sit down in the chair that he had so politely just had vacated...

When he said oh, I was clearing it for my dad...

OOPsss..... so I apologized and went back over to the other side of the couch.

Brendan then gets up, walks around the side and grabs a chair and brings it over for me.

That was very courteous and an excellent show of the type of character that Brendan appears to have and the type of young man that Brendan is...

I thanked him and sat down and continued to watch the other matches with him and his dad.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. I finished 9-12 in the ten ball division losing to Thorsten Hohmann 7-5 and Brian Butler 7-6. I played ok in both matches but I couldn't find a good break spot which is so important on the barbox. Good news is I still have a chance at the all around. Wish me luck!

Do you bring your homework with you to tournaments? Totally curious!

I have a couple friends who did the tournament thing from a young age and I dont believe either of them have finished highschool as of yet. Keep up with your studies, it will help your game.

Congrats on the good finish!

As much as I am impressed with his skills, which are truly amazing, I am more impressed with his politeness and and how courteous he is to everyone.

It's no secret that this young man has a gift for our game. Not only does he physically execute the shots correctly but his choices and shot selections are beyond his years. Good luck in the eight and nine ball Brendan.

Real Deal

He's the real deal.. I played him at DCC in the AZ/1P room. We played 1P, and I lost the first game pretty bad thinking I would not have to try that hard, after all this was 1P, not 9 ball. I beat him the second game playing like it was for a US Championship and also after he mentioned he too was in the 1P tourney that same day, and he too wanted to warm up so more.

He can shoot from anywhere, and his position is outstanding. He see's the patterns before he even gets to the table, which kinda scares me, because I still have to search for them for a few seconds, at least. So I went 1 out of 2 against this kid, but we both left for the 1P tourney, and I was thinking I'm glad there was not a third game cause not sure how that would have turned out. He's gonna be scary good in a few short years. Can't wait to see that !!!

Joey

I've been in Sal Butera's (great room with a family atmosphere which is what we need if the game is to grow) room twice and both times I have been there Brendan was in there practicing and it goes like this:

run out
run out
run out
run out
run out

lock up and battle with Sal (who can really play) for awhile. Then Sal will go back to the register and Brendan goes back to:

run out
run out
run out

eat a sandwich and play a video game then

run out
run out
run out

Something like that.

2 years is almost no time at all. If he's truly been playing for only 2 years I think this settles the natural talent vs. hard work argument. I had a chance to see some kids play who have beaten Brendan and I thought they were monsters.

There is no shame asking a 15 yr old for the 6 and the break and not being able to win! I know this from experience.

To really bust any future action this kid might get, someone needs to post his picture.

He plays the 2009 All Around Champ at 11:30 today. Should be a very good match. Good Luck to both. Now that would be a great live stream match!!!! Justin??

Are you saying that the first time he ever picked up a cue was two years ago, or that he has only been playing heavy competition for two years?

If I remember the story right from a conversation I had with Brendan's dad last spring at the NCS 8-Ball Championship in Feb. 2009...Between 2-2.5 years ago, Brendan's family bought a small non-slate style table because they thought it would be a nice recreational addition to the household. No one in the family at that time was involved or had a history of involvement in pool in any way.

Brendan showed a deep interest in it and started playing. Soon he saw, I gather, through ESPN and such, regulation pro style tables and asked if the family could get one of those. Well...being an enthusiastic and mutually supportive group :) the Crocketts soon aquired a 9' table. This was about 2 years ago I believe.

It was also at this time, that Brendan got to know Sal Butera who became his coach and mentor. Sal, also a tremendous player as well as the owner of a classy pool room in Moorpark, CA (Butera's) saw Brendan's natural talent immediately and started working with Brendan. Brendan practiced and played but did not compete till the 2008 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship in Chesapeake, VA. It never ceases to impress me when I think about that fact.

He then went on to compete in U.S. Junior events including the U.S. Junior Nationals and Worlds, and Southern California local and regional tournaments. He is a gifted talent, but also a level headed and hard working young man who is also an excellent student. Each time I've been around him, I'm impressed by his demeanor when he has a missed shot (which does not happy all that often). He is analytical in his approach and does not appear to let emotions take control. This is a lesson many adults struggle with at the table that he has, at a relatively young age, mastered quite well.

Whenever he is in between matches, he always seems to ask if there is a table he can practice on.

I strongly suspect that whatever Brendan chooses to excell and put his energy into, whether it's pool, his education, any sport or endeavor, he will be very successful. He has an excellent support group of positive thinking an intelligent friends and family who care about Brendan's best interests.

We were playing some ring games at Q-Masters during the US Open.

I was on the hill with Brendan in 2nd 6 points behind me. A friend missed the money 10-ball, Brendan made it then proceeded to break and run 3 more games to win.

Next round, my friend was on the hill, and again Brendan was in 2nd, 4 points behind him. I broke dry. Brendan ran out, then broke and run out the next game to take down the cheese again.

We quit but made him pick up the table time. We told him that's what he gets for beating up on the elders.

He just beat Glen Atwell in round 3 of the BT 9ball event... How strong is that??

Brendan beat Glenn Atwell (2009 All Around winner) 9-4 in the 2010 USBTC 9-ball winners bracket just now.

Sorry G, love ya darlin' but dang that was a crush...great job Brendan!

I see his name in a lot of events, I am wondering, school? A half ass education can make you more money than a top level pro.
