Danny DiLiberto almost died!

My dear friend Danny DiLiberto just called me to let me know he just got out of the VA Hospital in Buffalo NY. He had an internal hemorrhage and was bleeding profusely. Then when he got home he found out about the BCA passing over him for the Hall Of Fame after he was told they were going to induct him in a special category this year and instead put Terry Bell and Larry Hubbart in instead. That almost killed him as well! I've totally lost every bit of respect for the BCA and the way it's so politically motivated. The way they screwed over Danny and put in 2 guys who have been sucking the blood and money out of pool for over 20 years just makes me sick!

Anyway, please keep Danny in your prayers, he's 75 years old and not out of the woods yet. His health is declining and he has no income other than a few lessons now and then and his commentary for Accu-Stats, which isn't nearly enough to survive on. He feels like the BCA just slapped him in the face again with this years inductees, and I totally agree! He's given the biggest part of his life to pool and doesn't deserve to be treated this way!
man you hit this right on the hof money...Now I know they are in Cahoots.....f@#$ The Apa and now the same for the BCA...booooo, losers..no wonder we play golf more...jmho

Pete Margo and Danny hustled me at the track.
I want my money back.
lol

Just tell me one thing they've done that wasn't completely self motivated! And don't try to say they've brought a lot of new people into the sport. They ONLY did that to line their own pockets by using the "23 rule" to split and divide teams forcing them to find bangers with low handicaps so the teams could field legal teams. All they ever cared about was the money they could put into their own pockets. They've done nothing to help the sport, they punish their members for improving using the "23 rule" like a pyramid scheme to get rich in the process! They've done more to bring the sport down than anyone in history! Don't get me started on them, I don't want to turn this into a flame war!

I shall defer this debate for another day. Let's focus on Danny's worthiness, upon which we all agree.

This is the only sport where it's frowned upon if people actually manage to do something successful and make a living. Shame on them for actually making a few bucks!

As for the 23 rule....if you don't like it, than don't play in the league. It's designed for recreational and casual players who want to keep things competitive. Many people enjoy it.

*****ing about it isn't accomplishing much for Danny's sake. I'm not saying leagues are perfect either (far from it), but if you have a better idea, than start your own league.

Anyway, I'm off topic. Best wished to Danny. He will get his place in the HOF in due time. Slandering the BCA certainly won't speed up the process.

Sherm ain't being childish the man's just telling the truth...like the man said they SUCK the money out the game....they could do a lot for the game with the profits they earn and it has yet to be seen.....

The BCA isn't any better they prefer to fondle the IOC's balls instead of making something worthwhile on the homefront....like say maybe supporting and forming more after school programs for kids..

I think that is a complete joke picking those two over Danny D. I wish for him good health and a speedy recovery.

So am I supposed to say "get well" or "get screwed".

Hum...Terry, Terry,... that doesn't ring a Bell.

Not making fun of Terry Bell but I don't really know who Terry Bell is. Can someone let me know?

Thanks!

Get well soon Danny
I'm curious if most pool players would even know who Terry Bell is ? Maybe they all do and I just don't know it . I'm just curious

Not for nothing i"m a nobody to the great names in the pool world. But I have been around 21 yrs and have beat some of the greatest but no disrespect I have no idea who Terry bell is and i think Danny D. deserves to be inducted Danny get well soon Robb saez Robbnhood i miss having you in florida and i know I'm not alone !!!!!!!!!

Everybody knows that the BCA is run by the pool print media and industry members, with the pool print media making the decisions. It's a good ol' boys' club and who you know that gets you in the BCA's Hall of Fame, whether you're worthy or not.

How they could pass over Earl Strickland as many years as they did, to include Allen Hopkins, is very revealing on who runs the BCA behind the scenes. Personally, I do not believe it is done by vote, even though a so-called vote is cast. It's who you know that gets you in the BCA's Hall of Fame, and Danny should know this.

He is in the One Pocket Hall of Fame, and that's a nice honor. I hope he feels better. It's not fun being sick.

Most sports' Hall of Famers get recognition by way of appearing at various venues, paid appearances, and receive royalties throughout their life. In pool, you get a plackard. Ask Buddy Hall what he's received for his BCA Hall of Fame recognition, as an example. I'm sure he's proud as punch to be recognzied by the pool print media and industry members, but it hasn't put any money in his pocket, but, gee, I wonder how much Buddy Hall being in the Hall of Fame has put in their collective pockets.

Here's hoping Danny realizes the BCA Hall of Fame is nothing more than a club that's frequented by people who only want to elevate their friends.

Feel better, Danny.

I remember the IPT King of the Hill event in December 2005 when Kevin Trudeau gifted each BCA Hall of Famer with $30,000 if they just showed up. They also got three byes in the event.

THIS is the only monetary award those poor BCA Hall of Famers received in their pockets. But Kevin Trudeau is considered a bad guy on this pool forum.

Let's celebrate the industry members and the print pool media for all they've done over the years to elevate pool and keep it alive. Bravo, BCA.

I always learn something listening to his commentary.
He is a very knowledgeable person in any pool game, but especially in life.
Even at his current age, he can still play 'quite a bit'

Get well soon Danny! :)

Played decent

Get well soon Danny

Terry was a pretty good player. Didnt bet very high. Danny Di could probably give him the 8 playing 9 ball and 125 to 90 playing straight pool. He also hasnt competed in about 30 years.
Larry Hubbart was a top player. But he hasnt competed in 25 to 30 years.

Beard

Very few of the players in the BCA Hall of Fame would have had a prayer trying to play Danny straight pool anywhere in Florida. Including Mizerak and Cisero who he murdered both down there.

First and foremost, get well soon, Danny D.

To my knowledge, there are just two categories for BCA HOF induction, for play and for meritorious service.

The incomparable Danny D would be a very fitting addition to the HOF in either category, but I have to disagree strongly with the poster who suggested that Terry Bell and Larry Hubbart are undeserving. Given how much the APA, the organization they founded, has meant to our sport for decades, I find it astonishing they are not already in the BCA HOF.

sjm,
In most part I agree with your position.

A small part of me though (perhaps the pool "purist" part of me) thinks that bar tables will be the death of the real sport which is played on larger tables. To honor people making a fortune off bar table players (though I know that advertising dollars have been spent, and tournament opportunities have been provided) before honoring a player of Danny D.'s accomplishment makes little sense to that part of me.

Perhaps a "Bar Table Hall of Fame" should have Larry and Terry inducted before Danny D.; but NOT the "real" pool HOF. Perhaps its just the order of choice/snubbing that makes many of us sad.

Cuesmith, I am very curious. Was this post to bring attention to Danny D or was it to take another cheap shot at the APA. If you were a new poster than I would not be sure what your intentions were but your history seems to show that you will take a cheap shot at APA members, League Operators, and the founders of the organization, every chance you get.

It seems like it is OK if you make a living off the game of pool but no one from the APA is allowed to as well. It is a pretty obvious that you have some sort of history with Terry and Larry for you to harbour so much resentment toward them and the organization that they founded

Your claims that Terry Bell and Larry Hubbart have done nothing for the game of pool is a crock of crap. They havge been a few of the main drivers behind the popularity of the game but you just can't see it because of the jaded opinion that you carry.

I wish Danny all the best with his health and I also believe that he deserves to be in the HOF, but so do the other 2 that got voted in this year

Does Danny belong in before Jose Parica? Just curious what others think (I don't know myself). I love Danny and wish him the very best health.

I had the pleasure to meet Danny this year. He was introduced to me by my friend Holly Ryan at the BCA trade show in Las Vegas. What an awesome person. Thanks Holly, Danny is a true gentleman.

I think of Danny in the same light as Minnesota Fats for the color and interest he injects to a good story. He may be the last of his breed alive, willing and able to share these great stories with us all and have us at the edge of our seats with our fists on our chins, smiling with anticipation as he tells them.

His name, his character, his stories should never be forgotten or unknown to the youngsters up and coming in our great game.

Travesty is truly the word that best describes him being passed by for HOF.

Danny, if you are reading this thread, we've only met a few times briefly. Once by a snooker table in NJ, :) but I enjoy all that you have to share with the pool world very much.

From my heart, I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best in the future. Your job is to stay healthy for all of us!
