Pro Pool players courting disaster

Who's Business

LMFAO this quote is priceless!!... thats the problem " NOT A SINGLE PERSON KNOWS THE ACTUAL BUSINESS PLAN"

Do you disclose your business plan to the public other than the city counsel. I don't think so unless you elect to. I notice none of the BB players have said anything negative. Im guessing they know what is going on.

These guys are just trying to make something, with their abilitys.
Can't blame them for that.
It will be unfortuneate if there are scheduling problems and people have to choose , but that isn't new .
I have no idea whether people will embrace a new game, either watching a $9.95 PPV,or playing it in a league.
I enjoy pool , so I hope we can have some of everything, to choose from.
Best wishes, to promoters, players and fans.

If bonus ball won't honor it's agreement with a big powerful company that they owe a favor!

What do you think they will do to a dozen or so broke pool players???

That is why several members keep saying show me the money and trust bonus ball ain't good enough!!!

Diamond could get NASTY! Spend a few dollars on a breach of contract suit and file an injunction against bonus ball.

The courts could tie up the opening and start of bonus ball for a very long time!!!

It may cost a little money. But, poetic justice!

Bonus ball would lose more money on legal fees and expenses associated with the delay.

Bonus ball really should consider playing nice. I don't see that type of venom in diamond. But, bonus ball has been very confrontational!

When you interview for a job - not only are you being interviewed yourself but it is also a time for the person wanting to be hired to interview the prospective company. What type of management styles do they have, what type of growth have they had, what are their plans for the future,

Surely one of the 4 dozen Bonus Ball players thought to ask questions such as this before exiting their current life, moving to Vega$ and learning how to play a game with an orange, purple and black ball.

Is it possible about a disclosure contract with each player? I recently had this issue.

I have just finished reading all the posts in this thread. Jay's statement in the OP is what intrigued me to read it all. What he said about the whole set of circumstances back then, I am completely familiar with having been at the BCA during that period. He is correct that decision making has always been a detriment to the Men Pro's, mostly due to bad organizations controlling the players. Since then, there hasn't really been any real organization designed that elevates pool players opportunities at the elite level.

Bonus Ball is an interesting venue and will provide entertainment value to the viewer, and competition to the participants. From my perspective, since Bonus Ball has suffered delays forcing schedule changes, it is their responsibility to avoid major competition dates from Tunica,Derby City, Southern Classic, etc. This will go a long way help players develop a sense of cooperation and opportunity. It will also ensure that Bonus Ball has the full stable of Pro's to compete as the Primary Entertainment Venue during this period.

One of the great failings of the BCA has been appointing Executive Directors who were not pool players, nor really motivated to improve player programs, and only interested in developing the industry within itself. JAM was on the money in her post about that. The last person I can remember who was a real advocate for player needs and professional support was Mr. Daniel Gauci, one time BCA President. Since then, it has been downhill at the BCA.

What Mark Griffin and Greg Sullivan have done with supporting pool players, can only be applauded as yeoman's work of the highest order. They work tirelessly to improve and develop the opportunities for all players, not just the Pro's. FWIW, I have only met Mr. Griffin once, and have never met Greg Sullivan that I recall. I am only basing my observations on what I have seen develop as a player and fan.

In regards to the Seminole Tribe, I can tell you from first hand experience working in a Tribal Casino Marketing Department how political all of the events and activities can get! They are not the panacea for us either.

Thanks for your indulgence.

Dude, the sense I am trying to make is this.... BUY AMERICAN (clear enough)... also, call Greg and talk... and finally I have never heard of one statement by Greg that turned out to be false... Every third statement from BB is false... Like I said before.. and will say again... they want to play on something from China... BB should relocate too China....

I drive a Japanese car, do I need to move also? My cue was made in the US but my case was not, am I OK to use the case with that cue?

You have spoken well, and as such a Stoopid has responded to you with every believed affirmation he could muster.

Stop waiting for pro pool to get it right

For those who are looking for venues to continue to play the game and are not in the top 50 players in the country, stop waiting for the pros to get it right. All we need is more tournaments for advanced amateur players to participate in. No more leagues, there is enough of that. There needs to be more Derby, Southern Billiard Classic, SBE type events where the massess of advanced amateur players can compete and spend money to keep the game alive. People in my situation (working for a living) that shoot pool at a high level need a place to compete. I have no problem spending a few thousand to travel to a worthwhile event for a week. The hundreds of players who attend "pro events" and fill out the brackets are the ones who keep the game going for those that make a living at it. We vote with our wallets.

If all the top players boycott any of these events I would say great. I would love to see a shortstop win some top event...wouldn't break my heart.

hey jay what year was the cambel tourtaments i have one of the goldcrowns they used on tv

If "not a single person" knows the plan, then there is no plan.

Aren't you sharp as a tack, some type of lawyer or something?
Or somebody important or something?

Good post. Whenever this stuff gets discussed and the comparisons to golf etc get made I always think that is the biggest difference. In golf the USGA knows it's job is to protect and grow the sport (setting rules, rules for amateur status, handicaps, equipment regulations). It puts on some tournaments really as a side gig. In pool the BCA's primary function is with protecting the industry and not the sport. Always seemed like there should be a seperate organization for the other stuff. I know that is kind of supposed to be the WPA's functionality, but it doesn't seem to be doing a great job.

There is a complete disconnect between amateurs and pros in billiards. I'm not talking about AZ land - I'm talking about your average APA, TAP and other league/casual players.

Who wants to sponsor a sport where the amateurs who spend the money aren't paying any attention?

Pool is alive and well in the USA - there are pool tables everywhere in this country and the biggest game is 8 ball. It took forever to get the casual players to play 9-ball and now some are accepting 10-ball.

So now he have this Bonus Ball game with a few colored balls and a new set of rules. The average casual player is not going to embrace this game. Bar owners are certainly not going to rush out and buy a set of bonus balls for their coin-ops.
How can a casual player relate to or invest in a game they don't play?

I could be wrong - BB could bring in masses of young players and revive the sport. I hope so... but I don't think so.

IMO, this post is spot on...like it or not! I have traveled the country, full time, coast to coast for more than 20 yrs. 8-ball is still the most well known and favorite game of the masses here in the USA. Funny thing is that there are 10x more people playing in their local unsanctioned leagues than all the national leagues put together! Guess what they're playing?...8-ball! :D
