Bonus Ball Makes the Vegas news!!!

I worked for companies that always had a PR piece in the papers, even in The Big Apple.....just pay the right PR firm...no real big deal.

Just a story:

In the 70s in NYC there was an unknown singer, Peter Lemongello, who rented Carnegie Hall for his own concert, to self-promote it he then plastered billboards everywhere he could in Manhattan, and paid for advertisements and PR pieces in every major newspaper. He actually filled the place. He followed up with an album that sold fairly well before people finally realized that he was pretty much a fraud and he disappeared from stage and album forever.

Moral: Sometimes you have to pay for your 15 minutes.

Some of you know that I run a tour that is not pool related - it was written up on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, additional video and artilcle linked to their website and then linked to front page of yahoo, msn. etc. etc. It wasn't like this new breed came out for the next event I had. The notoriety was nice for 15 minutes.

Sorry JAM - love ya but there is really nothing schweettttt about it. People just need to be realistic. Until pool gets back on ESPN to replace things such as the Spelling Bee National Championship they are showing tonight, there will not be a dent made.

I totally disagree, this is schweeeeeeeeeeeeeet !!!!!!!!!!!!! The team format, the arena , the player introductions, etc......... I can't believe you are so negative. Pool has consistently gone in reverse the last 20 plus years. I think if other acquaintances were involved you would think different.
If you believe the direction and the future of pool has been going in the right direction, You need to think about your negative comments, and the negative influence your comments may have on uneducated viewers. Or just stay negative if it makes you feel good. I say to you, watch it tonight.

It looks very professionally done. Who has ever put something like this into pool ? You and I have known each other a long time. I would think it is fair enough to give it time before you start digging the BB grave. They are not dead, they are very much alive. Don't you want to see pool taken to a place it has never been ? I keep saying the team format is the key. Hell, you can make wagers on the outcome with this format. Good luck with your golf business, Wish the players luck Watchez , They could use your support also. We deserve a check too.

Sincerely. Gary Lutman

I wonder if they are going to pay shills to sit in and cheer to make the place look full for production.

The only thing that irks me about BB right now is them charging people extra for access to VOD's. Expecting people to either spend Thursday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday evenings for 26 weeks (hell, there are even afternoon and evening matches on Sat. & Sun.) watching live or pay an extra 20% for VODs is kind of nutty.

I'm a big follower of Esports and they don't make people pay extra for VODs http://www.gomtv.net/2013gsls1/premiumzone/, even the basic cheap ass package has access to VOD's, heck i can still log in and watch VOD's from the seasons i bought in 2011.

I won't complain too much about the video quality before i at least watch the first day, but max 480p seems like quality from 2003, for $200 i'd expect at least 720p if not 1080 and access to all VODs for at least a year.

I'll buy the first week just to see how it is and wish them luck to start.

I'm friendly with many of the players. There isn't a better individual in pool than Oscar Dominquez and I'm happy to call him my friend. I have supported him and even put him in a national tournament once - just one example.

But I am also a realist and take everything for what it is worth.

Yes - nice studio

No one has seen the production yet so we can't comment on that.

I watched 45 minutes of the game of a previous match, I'd give it a C-. in the game of Bonus Ball itself.

Team Format - best decision they made. Nothing bigger for fans than the Mosconi Cup.

Being on a local CBS affiliate - meh. It just leads me to believe when Lenny posts on Facebook that 'CBS is here' trying to sway people and not being clear that it was LOCAL CBS, what else are we going to be attempted to be sold on. Who is going to be in those seats tonight? Real fans? Actors? What numbers are they going to post up on the PPV when that happens? I have seen what InsidePool does to drastically inflate their numbers when they have a stream. I have seen what Charlie Williams portrays as a 'Professional Women's Pool Player'. I could go on til my fingers hurt from typing.

Sorry but BB has a lot to overcome to win me over. Yes, maybe not by their own doing but it is their choice to invest in a sport that has a lot of negativity in it itself and they should have realized that going in. If they didn't, they will surely fail.

This whole setup in Vegas is so smart....

The Casinos in Vegas want people in Vegas.

This could be a very big attraction for them. Something else for people to see and experience.

I don't watch car racing but it would be cool to see the racers up close one time. I might become a fan then, you never know.

The local coverage is great and will help the local community and Casinos will see that this could be an attraction to bring in more people to Vegas.

And this wasn't halfways done or anything. This was done professionally and with allot of time, thought and investment.

I don't know what I could do to help but whatever I could do I would. This is great for pool.

And this isn't just a maybe either.

Keep up the good work out there guys.

With the personel that have set this up and all the players coming out there to help make it happen Bonus Ball looks like a win win situation for the players and the overall game.

Just think if a few Casinos with deep pockets decide to throw some money in the pot to make this really exciting.

They're aty the right place to make that happen.

If there is enough money involved it's exciting to watch people throw a quarter at a line on the floor.

Once a person learns how this bonus ball works they will understand it is exciting. Lots of pressure also and covers about every aspect of the game there is.

You need to play smart and be able to execute all the shots.

Winner, winner chicken dinner.........All the way around..............

Overall the website is very cool.
The only thing I can't understand is the complete lack of promotion in the local pool rooms by the BB people. You think that they would be trying to get a big crowd there cheering on the players to raise the excitement level in the arena.

I was like "the website is cool?!?! what?!" ...then I visited it and found it was in fact pretty cool.
They completely redesigned it.

The old one was pretty amateurish. No offense if the designer is reading this. It was a smart move having it completely redone. I hope they revamped the rules section too, which originally was like 10 separate PDF files.

I guess this delay has had some benefits, having the site and the rules squared away is a good thing.

Yeah I think there is a link to the rules right there on the main page of the WPBL site. It's fairly concise. I have a folded up copy that I have in my cue case so I could play the game at my local poolroom. This is off that subject, but it seems strange to me that WPBL was picked as the name/acronym. I think most people when they see it would think the W stood for Women's at first and not for World. Also I would think that the more concise the better.

Im not trying to bring anybody down but I lived in Vegas for a fair bit and I will tell you this... Most Casinos don't want any part of outside ventures. The only thing the hotels do together is being owned by the same company (MGM, BELLAGIO, HARRAHS, ETC...) and don't do anything else.

Problem with trying to get hotel guests to see Bonus Ball is it may be too far from the strip so shuttling would have to be done to get them there and I will tell you this... On the weekends the Strip is crazy busy with traffic (you avoid this if you are a local) and valets are super crowded. Do you think people want to travel to a venue (which is awesome btw!!) to watch people play a game they dont quite get??

Again I don't want to knock BB and I really hope it takes off and succeeds but getting hotel guest is probably a no go. What they should've have done is what others said. Go to local rooms and promote. Hell promote to rooms in PHX, ARZ and even LA!!! You get loads of people from those regions!! Its just a shame because the efforts it takes to promote something is very minimal. Hell I can get the word out on BB If I was asked to!!!

Oh and the whole thing about getting BB on the Vegas line.... It will never happen due to the incidents in AC and ESPN... Vegas doesn't mind losing to people on the square but if you cheat them you'll never do it again....

Souquet might struggle with that extra stick-cam pressure. Dogged the bonus ball.

That reporter was mesmerizing!

My buddy Jr waltzed right into the arena today. (He's filipino so he probably looked like an alternate) He said it was amazing! All the pros were there.

Face it. EVERYONE is going to be watching tomorrow.

hmmm, strapping a GoPro to a cue. Wonder where they saw that first...

If you're considering a new career in marketing, you should stick with pool. :)

Seriously.....does anyone really believe that BB will be the next major LV attraction? People giving up seats for Cher to see BB? Ma and Pa Kettle, saved their entire life for a visit to LV and watch BB? Newlyweds leaving their marriage suites at major hotels to see BB? Bizarre! :thud::speechless:

I still wish them luck, but let's at least keep it within the possible.

anytime pool makes the news in a positive way is great!

Thanks for sharing the link, anytime pool makes the news in a positive way is great!

I agree, it's all about momentum. There's no reason for anyone to be jealous of Bonus Ball's production, it's still pool no matter how you slice it. Promoting Pool Positively is Perfect.

We hope others follow suit and start getting pool on the news, send out press releases that are professionally produced and develop optimistic attitudes for the future.

Great Picture! Is that the "Touch of Inside' (TOI) he's using on that Bonus Ball?

i dont know but i suspect from what i saw waaaaaaaay back Whoopi Goldberg did pretty much the same thing for her start. She sure has lasted though im not sure she ever gave me a chuckle.

yeah that was unreal-Even if BB was 40x more successful than the most optimistic scenario, It would have .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% impact on Vegas' bottom line.

I been thinking about it and NASCAR is the only off-strip attraction thats been successful, i suppose NHRA has as well, but its tough to over come casino's, they get a hold on people and forget about it.
