Str8Shots Has Not Paid for CO State 8-Ball Championships

What is special is this is a Juniors Event.

Its not like this Junior player can start placing at adult level tournaments. That is asking too much.

The player doesn't have many choices.

Bargaining for a better deal at future events is one of the few accommodations that can be made.
 
Well it appears that Straight shots are done. I was talking with a friend of mine about this and decided to check them out. Website has been taken down as I was told, Facebook page is gone, and I tried to call and the phone isn't working. So Anyone still owed money at this point I think is going to be out of luck. I know that some of you know people they sponsor or owe money to so you might want to let them know what is going on. So they are not holding their breath on payment. Such a shame that there are too many things that have been overlooked and people who have been simply tossed to one side without a second thought.

Don't confuse causation with correlation... vicious cycle.. best bet is for players to stop relying on pool for income...

treat the game and potential players with respect (not gonna happen, too many selfish ***** douche bags looking for a score) and compete in a friendly honest way...

I look for pool to continue it's downward spiral in the near future until even the degenerates don't gain enough from it and it can gain a modicum of respectability and air of being a gentleman's sport again like golf...

At least the OP lives in CO. May be a slight chance of running into the people that owe him at some point.

Just because a company goes out of business, doesn't entirely mean that their past debts are washed.

Not in my little World anyway.

The money was promised and they have been ducking it. Reminds me of the guy I beat who failed to pay me...I asked him about it later and he said,'now you asked for it, you ain't never gonna get it'.

Its not some Dragon Promotion type business where Charlie Williams is basically losing money to keep his tournament afloat.

The CO state has to keep costs down because no one is backing them the way CW can afford to burn money.

So what if the money for prizes is in the same bag as money for paying off equipment rentals. It just means whoever collects first gets paid first. If there isn't enough to go around, well this isn't a insured investment.

Pool tournaments are risky if you have issues with it, then don't play.

Str8Shots was a new business.

Nine out of ten new businesses fail the first two years, usually for the same reasons:

1) lack of a solid, realistic business plan
2) undercapitalized
3) lack of management experience
4) owner loses interest and moves on to something else

Bottom line is that any new business is a crapshoot. You should be surprised when a new business succeeds, not when it fails.

It is unfortunate that Str8shots has taken this position.

I believe they had the right motivation - just perhaps a bad business plan.

What upsets me is this is another 'black eye' for the industry.
It also burned a few people that had faith in Marc & Kimberly Griffith.

There is no reason for not contacting the injured parties.
I understand they have also not paid other obligations.

I have tried to contact them to no avail - very upsetting.
I am quite certain they must know the beating thy are taking - and that also speaks volumes.

A real shame. This is just a little rant because this industry is so fragile that it doesn't take much to really hurt us all.

I know there's no good reason for breaking promises, but having spent some coffee time earlier on with Kimberly, my perspective is more supportive of her, her efforts, and her wonderful husband Mark. This is not an excuse, but my opinion from the times we spent talking about pool. Kimberly as a kid lived in Denver, and basically her and her siblings were raised in a pool room by a wonderful man that took all of em under wing, and socially raised them as their parents were not able too and I don't know enough about that, but all the praise she gave the room owner for basically ''saving'' her and family members....the room owner was a stand up guy. She worked, educated herself, made bank and then I guess met Mark and married. Her health and vision declined in life, and as we all know, in business your health is #1 before one ventures into a NEW business, but she had Mark and her son to help out. With her health waning, and maybe she realizing life was to be shortened she moved quickly to save others who had a similar past, and there are quite a few in the pool room. She wanted to save as many pool players lives as she could, because she and her siblings were given common sense and helped out as children. She's a voracious worker, and I think trying to do too much for too many....was what may have shortened her situation to what it's presently come too. I hope she's well, but I think she got into the pool world again thinking she'll do the same as the room owner in Denver did to save her and family....but the pool world and society is quite different than when she was a child....that's how I see it.
 
With all due respect guys, get over it.

You operate a new venture with your life savings in the company checking account. If you're very good and very lucky, you don't lose it all...you just lose most of it before you start making more than you're losing.

But in most cases the money runs out and you're out of business.

You don't tell all your customers, suppliers, employees, etc. that you're going to run out of money next month. You hope that something will turn it around. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. But you run it with everything you've got until the last nickel is gone.

Then you lock yourself in your room and wonder what you're going to do now that you're broke.
