What is a very sad possibility is that it was all planned from the start. If John did well and the payoff was more than the $300 investment, then he contacts you right away and says here is the $300, give me my cut, we had an agreement. Or he just tells you to take your $300 out of his cut.jay helfert said:

Regardless of his reason for not paying, even if it was being unable to pay at this moment due to unforeseen circumstances (highly unlikely), he has proven to be a total scumbag in the way this was handled. Even in the most understandable of circumstances, like if your house burned down and you lost your job the same day you were supposed to pay, you still go to the person you owe and be honest about what is going on, and work out a payment arrangement to the absolute best of your ability. Everything he has done in regards to this situation has shown that he is unwilling, not unable, to pay. He stole $300.
If John had won everything would be ok. I'll give John some bad rep too!!! 
The "red rep" button at that bottom of the posts is to be used to report a bad post and has nothing to do with an individual posters reputation. The red rep is to be used to report a threatening post, a profane post etc and the message goes to the moderator.

He is really showing his true colors now. This is a non differentiating debt ducker. He will only pay bills under duress. And probably has problems with every landlord he has rented from. I'd like a dollar for all his eviction notices. I know the type. He knows exactly how long an eviction takes. Four to six months free rent in most places. He'll be leaving Pensacola by May.
Jay, the check he send was true! I talked to a guy in Biloxi and he said that he just got sidetracked a bit, but he'll be on his way. I even took a picture of the guy to prove to you that it is true. Here he is:
How long have you been waiting Jay? Multiply it by 10 if we're going by this postman's progress to deliver your check!

Since the check is now part of billiard history and will certainly become sought after memorabilia "Freddy the Beard" can make copies and we can pay for Jay to autograph the copies to place on the wall of our home pool rooms
