Charlie Williams named as Captain Team USA Mosconi Cup!

I don't see how CW as captain will affect how Team USA plays pool. Charlie may be there for support to them, but they're going to probably play the same way they'd play with him or without him, IMO.

Dennis Hatch would have been a brilliant choice, mainly because everybody likes him -- the players and the fans. He knows how to build a "team spirit."

Thanks Jenny!! I actually was being considered for captain but they picked Charlie instead... Tell Ether I said hello...

Mikeys been there and done that. Trying to understand how come ppl can't recognize greatness before its gone.
I got to tell ya Mikey, this thread is sooo negative toward CW if I were his #1 fan like you I think I would want it to go away. Why do you keep fanning the flames? Just wondering. I don't care either way just trying to understand your thinking.

You ever see a real good car accident.

You would've been an ideal pick. NO ONE brought the energy like you when you lead the team to victory. You had us standing on our couches pumping our fists.

What I'm trying to figure out is....

If all of this crap is Mikey being sarcastic or if he's really Charlie's boyfriend...

I just don't understand the nut huggin....

The Hatchetman would have been an excellent choice, he always fires the guys up, and they know he has their back.

The Mosconi Cup has been a successful event for much longer than AZ Forums have been around.

While opinions on here attract a wide audience, contrary to some people's opinions they should not be seen as gospel.

Matchroom have made the decision and the longevity of the event shows that they are rarely wrong.

.......and they do read the Forums

It's amazing that they did not pick you, Dennis. Unreal they went with CW over you. :frown:

To all posters in this thread, I do have the greatest amount of respect for Matchroom. They do, indeed, listen to public opinion. They have changed their rules in the past for Mosconi Cup selections after receiving feedback, such as this thread.

Also, to all posters in this thread, I would never, never, never threaten to boycott Matchroom, as the ABP did to the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship, or not be supportive of what some consider the greatest pool show on the face of the earth. Listen, Matchroom is *the* best thing going in pool today. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water here. ;)

Back to you, Dennis, Ether sends his very best regards. He really does think the world of you, always has and always will.

Doug, you and I have pleasantly disagreed on a variety of pool subjects, but on this one, I am totally in full agreement with you.

Regardless of whether I like the choice selection of Matchroom, I applaud them for continuing to bring out the best in pool to the masses. They undoubtedly pour millions of dollars into the sport. They could easily turn the other way and invest in darts or snooker and discontinue their support for pool as we know it.

Though I am disappointed with this year's selections, I am still a big fan of Matchroom. I'm pretty sure next year, things will be handled differently after this year's reaction to the captain choice for Team USA. ;)

I never even thought of Dennis for Captain.. But what an awesome choice that would have been! Imagine the excitement and energy he would have created for those guys.. Charlie is a nice guy and all but I don't think he is the best man for the job.

Well guess what, they are WRONG this time. Looks like the lights went out across the pond.
