Congrats Django for winning in TAR against SVB!!

Filipino are great people

That is a brainless statement to say filipinos are not wanted or welcome.
Lets forget about pool for a minute..Most Americans are not lucky enough to have met a true Filipino or have one for a friend. The reality is that the Filipino people are some of the most beautiful people in the world if not the most beautiful people in the world. To come from a country where life is so hard you cant imagine. They face more hardship in one day then we Americans do in a life time. Yet there attitude and demeanor is far better then most Americans. They don't Bash, insult or bad talk other people.
They take the life God has given them and make the most of it good or bad. They are the most proud people you will ever meet. I'm American and have lived in the United states all my wife. I'm also married to a filipina and have been to the Philippines many many times. This next statement might not settle to well with some people and if so please excuse me. The people of the philippines are Kinder, sweeter, more respectfull, and more gracious then most Americans. In my mind the people of the Philippines are better then in the United states. Again if that offends anyone Please accept my sincere apologies. To say they are not wanted or walcome just proves what I am trying to say. As far as pool goes Pool in the Philippines is a way of life for many as most of you already know. There are 100's of young talented players there that most will never see because they don't have sponsorship or a Visa. We are privileged to have the Filipino players that are here in the United states. We should show them more respect then to say they are not wanted or welcome.........

I've known Francisco since he started coming over here, more than 20 years ago now. I don't know anyone who can or will say anything bad about him, other than he's been kicking ass all that time. He has always been a well loved and respected person and player over here. He would never consider doing business or anything that's wrong. He simply wants to play pool and WIN! He remains the same humble guy I met 20 odd years ago, always glad to talk to people and as sincere as they come. Come say hi to him at DCC and you will see for yourself. One of the nicest guys in the pool world and a damn good competitor to boot. He's the opposite of Earl .

Congrats to Busty on winning a great match. Maybe they can continue at DCC. Both players are two of my favorites.:)

I second these opinions Jay. I have known Django for 17 years and there is no better Good Guy in the business. He is polite and well mannered (it took me years to stop him addressing me as Mr Gordon) and he is a joy to watch.

A young friend gave me odds of 7-4 on Francisco to win this match and he is still nursing the bites on his hand.

Jay, Thats exactly what I was trying to say. people don't realize just how wonderful Philipino people are. What you said about busty is the way you can discribe 99.99% of all philipinos. They derserve more credit then they get.

Didnt you know? Nobody will post a thread on Filipino victories even though they are and always will be the best pool players in history!

PS. Watch Derby City Finals - Orcullo vs SVB and pay attention to the crowd... The Filipinos there are loners and unwanted. That is why they made DCC a race to 7 so the Filipinos can't win... It didn't work! Final score 7-1 Orcullo! Efren, Busta, Alex and the few are the only ones that can come here... The Philippines has hundreds that play in their speed! Ask SVB himself he'll tell you, he goes there all the time...

I've got a DVD of Efren getting a standing ovation from a packed audience for a win in one pocket at DCC a few years ago. Evidently the Americans applauding didn't realize he was Filipino.

Apparently ...he still has what it takes.. I hate to see pool talent fade away with age...

I still Champion:

Django is still the man!!

Once again, Django proved that he still got what it takes! Congratulations on your convincing win against Shane. You are the epitome of a true champion! There is no quit in Django's terminology...

We will see you at DCC probably on the last two days of the event due to work scheds and sundry affairs. Nards is going to get the specs of Efren's cues and build him a customized cue specially for him.

Django, magaling ka pa rin!!

Congrats to Django.
For those why he's called Django, here ya go.

When Busti was in his early teens, he would walk in pool halls, with a smoke in his mouth, and ask " who's in here ?"
He was less than 5-ft t all and was still wearing shorts when he started doing that.

I agree with much of what you said but 99.99 is not realistic. There's almost 100 million population now in PI and just as here in America there's all kinds. To say they're this way or that way because they're Filipino is just as silly as to say the same of Americans. It's just not that simple. I am also married to a Filipino and have been to PI plenty. I think the general culture is to be more polite than here in America but in the end we're all just human. I love my wife and most of her family but I cannot just blindly say I love all Filipinos because I know enough of them to know the otherwise.

Someone relay the story about when Bustamante and Archer were matched up in a race to 11 or 13. Archer breaks and runs out the set. Without hesitation, Bustamante asks him to up the bet. How strong is that?

I believe it was race to 17.
JA runs 13, and 2 more in the next set but Busti won.
JA then quits.

13 & Out!
This month, our story is from the Scorpion himself, Johnny Archer.
It was in Toledo, Ohio, right after the Glass City Open Tournament, either 1992 or 1993.

Francisco Bustamante had just started coming over to America and playing the tournaments. Johnny Archer, on the other hand, was on top of the World at this point in his career.

Johnny and Francisco discussed gambling and finally decided on a game: race to 13 for $2,500.

Bustamante beat Johnny Archer the first set, 13-8. Johnny is down $2,500 and decides to play Bustamante again. They lag, and Johnny wins the lag. Johnny breaks and runs the first rack. Then, he broke and ran the next rack and then the next rack! Before you know it, the score is 5-0 and Francisco has been able to do nothing but watch. Johnny continues to break and run racks until he has won the set by running 13 racks in a row! Bustamante never made it to the table! Johnny was exhilarated after such a great run and the railbirds were going nuts. Amidst all of the excitement of this 13 rack run, Bustamante slides out of his chair and walks over to the pool table. Certainly he is coming to congratulate Johnny and call it quits after watching Johnny run so many racks.

Instead, Francisco calmly asks Johnny if he wants to double the bet! Double the bet? After watching his opponent run 13 racks, Bustamante wanted to double the bet!

Johnny thought about it but decided to keep the bet at $2,500 for the next set. Johnny lost the next set 13-11 and quit.

The pool table they played on is currently in Glass City Billiards in Toledo, Ohio. It was signed by Johnny and Bustamante that day. Next to his signature, Johnny inscribed, "13 and out."

Didn't Busti sign that table, " The winner, Francisco Bustamante "?

Let him go to the southern phillipines and meet up with the MILF there and see if he's singing the same tune...
There are good people and bad people of every stripe...

Jaden

p.s. that doesn't stand for mom I'd like....

Simply not true. Pool players cheer on pool players regardless of nationality. Of course people have their favorites and will root for them.

My favorite players are Orcullo and Lee Van and I'm an American. What do you say to that??

:)

Edited to Add: CONGRATS BUSTY!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have to question your Americanhood Russ! (No seriously, nobody is more all-American than Russ).

Despite the artificial nationalism created by tournaments like the Mosconi cup, most players I know root for great players regardless of nationality. Bustamante has been a hard nosed money player for a long time. It was just a matter of time before someone could match Shane blow for blow.

There difference between them amounted to 1 game in every 45 they played. It doesn't get a lot closer than that.

Congrats Busty, can't wait for the re-match.

Congrats Busti :)

Busti is for sure one of the nicest guys from the *pro circus*. Saw and met him after he arrived here in germany long ago and travelled around a bit to gamble "a bit". Hell of a funny guy and one of the best money players i ever saw.

It was a joy to see these two in action. Two of my absolute fav's, Busti just for a longer time. Wish the equipment hadn't been such a big gorilla in the room.
Francisco's comportment is regal. Couple of great competitive gentlemen.

I got to watch the whole thing!

It was a good match and both players should walk tall.

Busty just did the job a little bit better.

He was shooting at a .941 for about the first half of the yesterday's match!

That is pretty high - especially on tight pockets.

Mark Griffin

(PS to CanonShooter: you are out of line and wrong). They are short races because the event cnanot last any longer!
