Interesting way that this thread has turned. Also interesting, is the number of people trying to defend John out of pure cult status. And getting down on others for John wanting to leave.

Whether John leaves or not, really doesn't matter to this forum at all. John is hear for two reasons, and two only. Number one is to get his ego stroked, and number two is to make some games. So many have said what a loss it is to the forums for John to leave. Why??? Because he is a pro and you feel better being able to talk to someone that is a pro?? Let me ask you this- what has anyone on here learned from John posting on here??? Can even ONE of you say that John has offered any advice that has helped your game??

Let me save you some time here, I actually went back and read all off John's posts on here. Just to see if I was wrong. This is what I learned- 1. Clean balls play better. 2. When playing 14.1, your last three shots should be stop shots. 3. 14.1 is harder than the other games. 4. It is much harder to run 200 balls than 100 balls in straight pool.

Yes, that is the total extent of his help on this forum. Now, if those 4 things actually helped you, you should quit playing now. Now, if you are of the ilk that thinks nobody but a pro can or should teach you how to play, you are missing a few marbles and will never get real good anyways. The lesser players that supposedly ran John off, and I say supposedly because the only reason John doesn't like them, or me now, is because they don't stroke his ego every time he posts, have contributed light years more info that actually is valuable to a forum like this than John has.

Those that want a good forum need input from all levels of play. Not be told that our info is worthless until we become champions. While the champions on here never want to help anyone else.

John, and the other great players that lurk on here have a unique opportunity to offer real insight on playing the game, yet they all seem afraid to offer any help. Why??? Because we might become a threat?? Not likey, especially according to John, who believes that without natural talent one can never be a threat to any real pool player. So, why not offer advice now and then??

Why does over half his post have to be telling us how great he is? And how bad the rest of us are and will always be?

If John or any other pro wants to start helping this forum, I would gladly welcome him back. Until then, I really see no loss by him being gone, other than less flaming threads.
*****You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Neil again.
Great post Neil. I totally agree with you sir. :clapping::clapping::clapping:

This is not a diss.

This isn't a funeral though or the death of this community. When we lose people to death or illness that's when they deserve to be missed. When someone abandons you, isn't it good riddance and don't let the door hit ya...

One thing that amuses me about this website is the people who expect a pro to impart some rare secret about pool so they can take their game to pro level. I remember when Max Eberle was asking for help to attend the world 14.1 championship and he caught heat from people because he didn't post here very often and didn't give up his secrets.

Libraries have books on pool and yet you will find better pool players in pool halls than in libraries.

This is from the thread, his last post:

99 percent on here are great and im going to miss you guys but you guys can all ask questions and discuss things with the real masters like mowen down, chewning, shooting arts etc.
many on here are mature secure adults with good jobs etc that play pool for fun,you dont see me as a threat or enemy, because im a better player.
many on here are actually trying to get to where im at in pool and see me as a direct threat and no matter what i say tell me im a egomaniac arrogant jerk etc.they belittle everything ive done in pool and say things like with enough practice ill be better than you and you need weight from this guy and that etc.
they are totally jealous haters and have been their whole lives.
until this is a forum where i know who im speaking too and everybody uses a real name like i do im done with being a target for guys who are wanna bes.

i think if i stay on here i will use a fake name and take cheap shots at everybody.
if you guys think i speak my mind now wait until im using a fake name lol.

oh by the way the 99 percent on here thats great people im sorry to go, you can directly thank all the *****s .i tell the guys on tour im on here and people treat me like shit.they all say why would you bother you have no chance because you use your real name, your a target for the haters.

if im seen posting under john schmidt anymore im going to donate 1000 to charity .
so in parting instead of saying something friendly and respectfull, instead im going to talk like the haters on here.

all you losers that live with your mommies ,who couldnt get laid if i sent you too an island full of swine flu victims with the h1n1 vaccine in your dick, who have a shoe size bigger than their high run in 14.1,who say they will be pro in 2 years even though after 15 years are still an apa 5 ,can all eat shit.im done with wannabeville.
im only speaking too 1 percent on here but you know who you are.

How did this guy ever find a sponsor?

I was one of those that said that I felt Max Eberle should contribute a lot more. I still donated $ 100 to the cause, but since he hasn't contributed after that event I will not support him again.

There is really only 2 poolplayers here that I would like to support if asked again, and that would be Sarah Rousey and John Schmidt.

I noticed hatchetman74 posted almost 100 posts in 2 weeks, but haven't heard a word from him after he got the needed support from people.

There's a few top players that posts regulary, like Donny Mills, Bartram, Darren Appleton and Markus Juva, and John and Sarah keeps posting all year through, and not only when needed help and support. That's how you build a fan base on here on AZ, imo.

Too bad that John has decided to not post here anymore, but I hope he will join again in the future.

I have been a member here for nearly ten years though I don't post a lot and it's a shame for John to leave but it happens to every pro eventually. Not only here but on other forums as well in other disciplines. Most posters mean well but on every forum there are those who get a kick out of talking down to the professionals and berating them. I can't blame the pros for going away. I would too.

With that said...I wonder if John was a little upset about not getting picked to play on the Mosconi cup team. I would think the main reason for a pro to come on these forums is to build their fan base and when he didn't get that many votes he might have been hurt and changed his opinion of this forum right there and then. I myself didn't vote for him, but it was based on who I thought would represent us best on the table not off. If the mosconi cup was straight pool I would have voted for him - no questions asked. I hope he continues to do well and I wish him the best of luck.

AZ Billiards remains a great place to network in the sport of pool. Frankly I'm surprised more players don't take advantage of it.

I hope John comes back on here. He is a great player and gives an HONEST opinion when asked. It is just a shame that some folks can't take the truth.

See you at the Open...champ=)

Jay, unfortunately most of them only take advantage of it when it's suits their short term interests. (ie..garnering votes, asking for stakehorse/sponsor, etc...)

John was one of the ones that contributed not only as a player but as a true forum member and gave his opinions on a lot of topics not limited to playing pool. Chris and Donny post a lot and like to interact and mingle on a basis that isn't limited to pool and rather as equals to everyone else posting.

I'm not interested for the most part in hearing how a pro would run a certain rack or how they would play a certain shot. If I want that information then I'll pay for it.

People argue about the pros not earning enough money, etc...but then want them to interact and talk about the technical side of pool and share their knowledge for free. I don't think that many of the pros want to come on a forum and give their insights into the technical side of pool for free when it's all they do for the most part day and night in their everyday lives.

Having hung out with most of the pros, I'd rather interact with them as friends and not like a student seeking free knowledge.

Now, that's not to say that the pros giving advice, etc...isn't a good thing. I think more of them doing this would garner good support and favors from people in the industry for the future, but I don't think it should be expected from them.

Neil,

DING DING DING DING.

His posts were all about I'm Mr. 400 who with the exception of a few and I mean a few straight pool players care?

I'm Mr. 400 blah blah I'm Mr. 400
Argue with Danny Harriman
I'm Mr. 400

Same stuff over and over again.

I know a lot of "pro" players and they all, to a fault sometimes, are egotistical. They all think they are the shizz and it is all about them. Why is that? I dunno but I think it has something to do with why they are as good as they are. Some hide it better than others but every top level player I know thinks they float the boat.

I think some posters tend to crucify these guys for their cockiness because somewhere deep down they wish they had that in them too. They wish they "knew" they were the best instead of always wishing they were.

I just read through the other thread that got John all riled up. I'm sorry, he was being a smug, arrogant jerk. He was not pushed into it either. He put his view out there and when the entire mob didn't kiss his nut sack for his opinion he got jaded. He really thinks highly of himself too.

Look, I have no relation with anyone involved in that thread. I'm a total outsider looking in and giving an opinion.

I'm sorry, if John wants be a little girl and go away crying then so be it. God bless him and his family. And that goodbye letter, Jesus.

If John is seeing this, which I'm sure he is, they all leave and then scan everything:

John,
Loved your instruction video, John. Picked up some real good information. Had I known that you believed that people like me can't actually learn something and become better from videos, books etc... then I wouldn't have spent the money.

I understand that sentiment but a lot of people don't have the internet at home. Some people have unrealistic expectations about how much a pro can help their game by posting something on the internet. I don't know how a pro can tell you how to control the cue ball via the internet.
