Mika needs a new nickname...

I started calling him "The Air Traffic Controller" on Wednesday so I am sticking with it. Maybe "The Conductor" will catch on as well.

Tap tap tap...

I won money betting against Mika in this event, but to say that he needs a new nickname or some of the general comments against his play in various threads are pretty absurd imho.

The guy is the number one ranked player in the world - did he give that type of perfomance in this match? Eh, I'd have to say no. Did he lose his composure at times? Yes.

He had a bad few days at the office playing arguably the best 10 ball player in the world in Shane. Doesn't change the fact that he crushes 99.9% of the players out there, including nearly everyone that posts on this website.

Let's give the guy some respect - he played for the cash and lost, lost his composure sometimes - but we've all been there - it just hasn't been streamed for a worldwide audience when it happens.

I can't give anymore reps right now, but just wanted to say I liked what you said. TAP TAP!

Peace,
Amanda

He does well under pressure. Just like the 'Ice Man' in Top Gun. Ice flows through his veins. His winning attitude is the key to this nickname, which I think is well suited.

Did you watch the stream?? I didn't see much of a winning attitude. More like a pity party for himself.

However, he is a champion and hates to lose, so there can be some merit to his actions at times. But it seems the past few times I've watched him play every single time something doesn't go his way, be it a roll, breaking dry, missing, getting hooked, etc., he is completely beside himself and throws his hands and bangs his cue on the table for a good 15 to 30 seconds.

Bobby he was whining and crying when he was up 9-2 in a race to 10 final against SVB in a DP Tenball event that he won 10-3. He can be dead winning or losing and completely self destruct at any moment.

Let's call him "The Time Bomb"

Dude, he is a champion. It's ridiculous because he lost to arguablely the best 10 ball player on the planet that he is a guppy. Does he get upset yes, does he wear his emotions on his sleeve yes. Should he act differently at the table I would say yes.

However, there arent many guppies who at some point are going to be inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame my friend.

I will concede "guppy" probably was a bit too far. However, Mika has clearly lost a step since the Mosconi Cup loss. He has looked nothing like the "Iceman" of old. Maybe the best thing for him to do is after the Open take a couple months, step away from the game, & refocus.

BTW, I like "Time Bomb". It can have both a positive & negative connotation to it.

Mika "The Meltdown" Immonen!

I am only playing Mika lovers, he is a Champion and it was not his match this time, maybe they will play again. :)

He is probably the 'Player of the Decade'!!! What more do you want?

Which decade Scott?

Earl was the 80's
Archer the 90's
Reyes 2000-2009

You said "is" but we really should wait another 7-8 years to see how the other great champions pan out.

Great a player as he is, he's second only to Earl in the number of "episodes" he's had with other players. Not to mention his aura of arrogance that he seems to enjoy projecting. I've often wondered why more people don't speak up about how Immonen treats people.

Anyway, that being said, he is a fearsomely talented champion. And as I said somewhere else, he's my all-time worst player ever.

Winner

Mikey,
I liked "Flipper" as well as "The Ostrich". I also admit to cackleing (sp?) out loud when CaliRed said that SVB "beat the nickname out of him." I was going to offer the moniker of "Squiggly-Wiggly" or "Ms Wiggles" But "The Conductor"?......I just can't stop laughing. For some reason, that is just plain FUNNY to me.

That pic that somebody posted on another Immonen thread that depicts him sitting in the chair, head down low, hands on his head.....that's how I looked from 7th thru 12th grade! So I can relate a little.

how about Mika "Ice Melt" Immonen?

I say this with all due respect. He is a Champion but this thread is just to funny pass up

Someone suggested that he wears his shirts really small.

They were calling him Mika "Baby Gap" Immonen on the chat the other night.

I don't know why you guys are trying to find him a knew nickname.
Heck he came in second. That's not bad.

This is along the same lines of the nickname I'd reserved for him (but kept to myself):

Mika "Mistakes-Out-Of-Nowhere (M.O.O.N.)" Immonen

When the mistakes are coming hard and fast (at the worst possible moment), I mutter to myself, "the full M.O.O.N. is out" or "Im-M.O.O.N.-nen." :p
