I am with you Jim, I think that Adam is certainly the most under rated Production Cue maker of all time.
I would definitely have to go with my Sears cue, made of solid straight ramin wood, its the nuts, its hits so crisp & solid. The best part of my Sears cue are the screw on tips, I can change them faster than any cuemaker, how can you beat that.
I think Pechauer cues are the most underrated. Most people have a high opinion of McD's, Vikings, Joss and so on, but Pechauer cues seem to be having trouble getting respect. When I hear McDermott or Viking, it brings memories of cues I owned years ago that played great, and were very affordable. I hear Pechauer and I mostly feel sad, lol. I dont know what it will take to put Pechauer on the map, but I hope it happens soon.

He labored under the radar for many, many years but Paul Heubler never put out a bad cue. Paul is a low key man who never boasted about his product. He just kept making good cues. Not sure if he is even still making cues, but if you find an old Heubler KEEP IT!
I'd agree with you Jay, I don't think Paul's designs were ever the greatest but man there's something about his joint with the nylon insert, and the ones with the SS sheathing on them, best hit ever IMO.
I think Huebler went out of business a year or two ago. Cue and Cushion in St. Louis doesn't show any for sale and I'm sure if Paul was still making cues they'd have some 100% for sure.
My second cue was a Huebler. Bought it from Bob @ C&C for $100 in 1973 or 74. Didn't realize what I had and sold it for a C note.:frown:
I played in a league with a kid who had an old Huebler he inherited from his Dad. The lettering on the butt was worn so much it was hard to tell what it was, but I recognized it as a Huebler and told him it was a valuable cue. He had no idea. He was just a banger, drunk half the time, but had a nice cue.

You are certainly right Cue and Cushion would certainly have some for sale if they were still made. I also bought my first Cue from Bob Huddleston between 73 and 74, and it was also a Huebler, from 73 until 78I was a regular at Cue Cushion. In fact that is where I really learned to play pool, there so many great players who were regulars back then that you could not help to learn by just sitting and watching.
However, I do not think that Paul Hueblers cues have ever been under rated. At least not to those who lived anywhere in the Mid-West, many already know this, but Paul did not buy any blanks for any of his cues, even his four point sneakies were completely made in shop until he closed it down. It is a shame that Paul had no one who could have carried on the tradition when he decided to retire, and that all the little deals with having employee's take over just did not work.
Anyway, thanks for your post it sure brought back some memories for me while I was sitting here reading it this morning.

I agree, John guffy made really good cues. My Guffy sneakie is my fav cue i own. Its a shame he quit building cues.

I have a Players sneaky. I love using it because it hits realy well with a Moori medium and it's dirt cheap, so I don't mind taking it to the small bars.
I've owned a lot of production cues over the years. Viking quality is hard to beat. I just wish they'd move away from the colored plastics. McDermotts have never dissapointed me either....unlike Meucci...total garbage. I'd have to say the top three underrated production cuemakers to me, are Viking, Adam and Dufferin.

Back in January of this year, I spoke with Mr. Paul Huebler and he made it a point to tell me that that rumours he closed up shop for good were completely false. Age and arthritis has forced him to cut back, he may be in semi-retirement but hasn't closed shop completely.
