Any Pro 'Crossover' Players

Bob's history thread got me thinking....'back in the day' there were a multitude of pro billiard players, who also played a pro sport. Baseball comes to mind with Johnny Kling, Ora Morningstar and Adrian Anson being recognized players of both.

Are there any pro level shooters today that also compete in another sport at the pro level ?
 
Not sure about today, but Dan DiLiberto was a world-class boxer in his playing prime and, I believe, Alex Lely was a pro rugby player.

Dave Bollman played Pro Golf and Pro Pool, he makes cues and has the pro shop in Q-Master Billiards. Barry Berman's room.
 
"Crossover" players

Earl Strickland played low-handicap golf and, with coaching, could easily have attained teaching-pro status at tennis. GF
 
I know a guy from back home named mike xafarias was a world champion archer not sure if a lot of you guys know who he is He was a pro that played with Allen Hopkins and Jim rempe when they were touring in there younger days
 
Besides earl, I know john schmidt plays pretty sporty golf. I dunno if it's just "good" golf vs. "pro" golf, but I heard he's a zero handicap (or whatever you golfers say).

Corey plays scratch golf as well. Scratch golf isn't "pro level" golf though. Anybody on the PGA or Nationwide Tours could give all of these guys the 7. I played scratch golf in college, and that was only good enough to reach 52nd in the state of California among college players. Pro golf is a completely different level.

Let's just keep in cue "sports" Keep it simple...how many "pool" player's have crossed over and won WC in Snooker?...How many "Snooker" players have crossed over and won a WC in pool...both boys and girls?
 
the level of play of today in any sport is too high. Is impossible to be a pro pool player and a pro tennis player. Maybe somebody is a pro pool player and a good tennis/golf/etc player but he will not be competitive in both...
 
Danny Diliberto was not only 17-0 as a pro boxer who had to retire because he broke his hand 4 times he was a world class bowler and played some minor league baseball if I am not mistaken. He once ran 150 balls in straight pool and bowled a perfect game in the same day. Hatch was a boxer I think. The Miz could play snooker really well. Thorborn Blomdahl beat Efren in 3 cushion and in 9 ball in a challenge match.Thorsten Hohman is a marathon runner.Efren plays chess and 3C at a very high level. Earl is good at Russian Pyramid billiards, golf and tennis. AZs own Jay Helfert is known to be a good poker player. Alex P just won the Canadian snooker championship.I believe Jose Parica was a boxer. Not sports related but Max Eberle is a good artist.
 
I played hockey with guys at the AHL (right below the majors) a few times and got the worst of it :lol: Even though I was playing minor pro as a goaltender at the age of 17... going up against these MONSTERS was definitely an experience :lol:

Pro pool for me??? Hardly but Ive been known to give the top players a hard time if you know what I mean :wink:

I never heard any stories about Worst playing snooker, but based on what I have heard about him that doesn't surprise me. What I do know is that he won the world 3 cushion championship in the 50s and was a world class pool player even if he may have never won a "world championship".
 
After he was diagnosed with cancer he went to Europe and won the snooker championship.
